Super Mario DX for GBA
« on: March 10, 2013, 08:45:12 PM »
So a few people here might have seen pictures floating around the internet of the box art for a "Super Mario DX" game for Game Boy Advance. I think the consensus had been that it was either a PocketNES cart, or possibly the original Mario DX for GBC inside a GBA case.

Nope. Turns out it's neither of those. Someone has posted a video of it on YouTube...and, well, suffice it to say, it's a GBA-native platformer made by Sintax.

Yes, folks: it's that engine again...

:O I've seen that one on eBay twice too! I can't believe it was one of them again, I would've bought it. :\

And doing some Googling, I see 64scener discovered this one a while back as well-- doesn't seem to be linked from anywhere on his site that I can find, curiously enough:

http://www.64scener.com/gba/pir-mariodx.htm

Also, guess what Aladdin 2 for GBA is? Even the freaking manual is the same.

http://www.64scener.com/gba/pir-alad2.htm

Edit: It's linked from this blog archive page, which is how Google found it. I should probably do an archive binge to see if he's posted about any more of these...

I like how these games not only re-use the same game engine, but the same audio and everything.  This is somehow lazier than most other bootlegs out there (even compared to stuff by Color Dreams and Makon, to an extent.)

How many are there known now? Let's see:
Digimon Adventure,
Crash Bandicoot III,
Crash Bandicoot IV,
Rayman IV,
Spiderman III,
Harry Potter IV (Seen on eBay, most likely one of these),
Lord of the Rings IV,
Sonic 3 Fighter Sonic,
Mario DX,
Aladdin 2.

10 games! Oh god, Sintax is catching up with Makons library here!
Oh there's a 'Super Aladdin II' on eBay. Could it be a rebranded Aladdin 2? Or is it a PocketNES cart? I think Azathoth had one on eBay..

hmm, these things seem to have ID numbers, could be an indication of how many are out there - Mario DX is E12-U8 and Aladdin 2 is E12-U10. (Aladdin's is only on the back of the manual though). anyone have any more?

Super Aladdin II is the PocketNES hack whereas Aladdin 2 is the one in question. Looks like the one on ebay right now is the PocketNES one.

With Crash Bandicoot, III is the platformer and IV is the PocketNES version... unless there's 2 versions of part IV floating around. Same with Spiderman, III is the platformer and IV is PocketNES

Is it this aladdin 2 cart or a different one?  http://www.r4-3ds.net/nintendo-games/aladdin-for-ndsl-nds-gba-sp-game-boy.html go down towards the bottom. Or is this just the pocketnes again?
Oh you guys were talking about this pocketnes one. The one I found was just plain old aladdin http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Disney-Aladdin-2-Gameboy-Advance-GBA-/281071108493?pt=UK_PC_Video_Games_Video_Games_JS&hash=item417124c18d

Yeah, that's the eBay auction I saw. I bet that seller bought it off Azathoth and is trying to get a profit. >_>
Oh god, that ID code seems too similar to one on a cart I've seen called 'Mariobars 2'
Here.

..Maybe that was another Mario one?

Checked my Lord of the Rings IV, it says E12-U15.. does that mean there's at least 15 of these things?

Well  I think they've beaten Makon now. D:
I seriously wonder though, who made these craptacular bootlegs? It's too good for Makon, too lazy for Sintax. Who else in the industry could it be?

Definitely Sintax I think. Even the manual pages and warning text on those 64scener pages look Sintaxy. They did reuse some of their GBC engines a *lot*, so it's not exactly unprecedented - they probably had no idea how to code a GBA game from scratch so they just ended up using that same engine over and over again.

Oh wow, this is hilarious. Yet another one of these games using the EXACT same engine has surfaced.

Also, speaking of these peeps who keep making the same crap, wasn't there an Ice Age game made by these people as well?

For the GBC yeah (two in fact, but the only difference seems to be the music). I don't know of one for the GBA, but that doesn't mean there isn't one...

Found another shitty Sintax title on eBay. Going to get it ASAP. (no links sorry. I'm afraid it'll go quicker if I link it. It's a bit like the Aladdin 2 concept though.)
