Super Mario World 64 (Unl) ROM
« on: January 12, 2013, 09:52:38 PM »
A big round of applause for Eke and Bootsector because without their help this would not have been possible.

After beating my head against a wall for a year or so trying to get this dumped I finally gave up and contacted Eke. Using the SGC Explorer designed by Bootsector he was able to pull a working dump from the cartridge and document the protection. He currently has all the routines implemented in the Wii version of Gens Plus GX 1.7.3.

It is currently possible to run Gens Plus GX under a Windows environment but I will let Bootsector explain that.

Nice! Too bad Retroarch runs Gnes Plus GX so slowly on this laptop. Hope it gets properly patched for other emus sometime!

Edit: Oh, all I had to do was change the video output from SDL =p Now to see if I can find any cheats!

Edit Edit: Spoke too soon again, no cheat finder here it looks like. :(

Well, that's fantastic. :D Even though it doesn't work on other emulators yet, it's really awesome that we've actually got a working dump of it now.

Thanks Azathoth for making the ROM available to everyone! :)

Below are the instructions I've sent Azathoth a couple of weeks ago so we could enjoy this game on his Windows PC:

Quote:

Hi there!

I've compiled GenPlusGX 1.7.3 as a Win32 libretro library and bundled together with the latest Win32 version of RetroArch. Here's the download link:

http://rghost.net/42623264

You might need to install first the MSVC++ 2010 runtime files from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...s.aspx?id=5555

To play your Mario 64 ROM using this emu:

1 - Decompress the RetroArch emulator 7-Zip package from the link above
2 - Rename your Mario 64 rom file to rom.bin and put it in the same directory you decompressed RetroArch
3 - Run the retroarch-phoenix.exe frontend and click the "Start RetroArch" button
4 - Play with arrow keys, A, S, D and ENTER
5 - Have fun!

Let me know if you have any issues running the emulator!

Cheers,

bootsector[/quote]

I know this was mentioned before but the A button doesn't actually cause you to run, just holding the d-pad in a direction for a period makes you gain momentum.

And I still can't beat the second damn level.

Laughed my ass off when the second stage began and the song that started playing is actually from Tale Spin! LOL

Yeah, andlabs posted an early patch on the IRC yesterday, but it's not finished yet. It's playable, so far, at least.

Someone posted a patch here: http://gendev.spritesmind.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1194&start=19

Is it the same unfinished patch?

Yes, that's (actually on Page 3 but still) the same patch that was linked in the original post in the other thread here.
