Uh, thanks for the ROM, even though everything you said was rather random.  You could've posted the ROM link in the previous topic, as that was dedicated to this game.

Is this 32m uncompressed with empty/duplicated data, the same as the version of Sapphire Taizou dumped?

On another note, I tried doing a relative search for text in this using WindHex. The game's text must be compressed or something, because searching for "monster" finds nothing. I'm definitely going to have to do more investigation, because I so want a text dump of this. :P

holy shit :D amazing. thanks!
did you use something custom to dump it or did you just luckily happen upon a copy that could be dumped with normal tools? i bought a copy from volumerates and i couldn't dump that either.

Thanks for the ROM :) By the way, I laughed so hard at the amount of Engrish it contained :D Other than that, the music and graphics are decent.

I figured out the text encoding with some Python hackery. Or at least am partway there, anyway.

Here's the trick, and why WindHex couldn't find it: the text is stored using 16-bit character values. (Makes sense, since this is a game that was originally in Chinese, a language that uses far more than 256 characters!) So there's an extra null byte between each pair of Roman-alphabet letters.

And not only that, but it's still non-UTF16 encoding. 0000=A, 001a=a, and I'm not sure how the rest of the character set goes because it's not the same one I found in the ROM graphics.

I'm probably wrong on this, but 1A is 26 in denary so wouldn't 0000-0019 be upper case letters and 001A-0034 be lower case? I don't think WindHex (and possibly Thingy, for that matter) is capable of 16-bit character tables. :\

Oh wait, it is. :)

Here's a ZIP file with both the text dump itself, and the Python script I made to derive it.

Seriously, if you thought the Engrish was hilarious in the first stage? It gets even more ridiculous. Funniest lines I've found so far:

"Don't say the whangdoodle! Get up! 3 head dragon~"
"Calculate your severe! You isocandela! I am not forget it!"

Well now I know where to get lyrics from if I ever bother to record awful singing over random MIDI files. :P Also, what's with the hexadecimal numbers over each quote?

I'm pretty sure that those hex codes are identifiers of which character's face to display in the dialogue box. For instance, all the 0000 lines are spoken by Dafu, 000e is Lunah, and so on.
One thing that amazes me about this translation, incidentally, is that it's not just direct machine-translation output. It has some rather charming typos that indicate that a human typed this text in. (Though it also has quite a few turns of phrase that suggest that Kingsoft's dictionary software was used in this process, heheh.)

This translation is so ridiculously bad I can't help but think that whoever wrote it was doing a stealth parody on bad translations. :P I think that when a game has the line "Do my wife!" the developers either know nothing about English or they were just taking the biscuit.
