I apologize that I haven't told anyone about this way earlier but Wikia is planning a layout change for all wikis. I've seen the layout before and it's nothing horrible compared to Youtube's and if they do another beta, I could show you guys. The new layout is coming in 5 weeks. Now if anyone doesn't like the new layout, I'm not sure what to exactly do. If most of you hate it I will move it maybe (but moving 144 articles is a BIG ASS) but when it does come, at least try to adjust to it. The layout is nothing compared to Youtube's shitty layout though.

yeah I just noticed that yesterday. it looks decent enough at the top, but the article space is way too narrow IMO. I can live with it though.

From what I've heard, that might actually work fine for me seeing as I have a widescreen monitor which probably excels with this sort of thing. Has anyone got a screenshot to show what it looks like?

itll probably be worse on a widescreen monitor though. its fixed width so you'll only get more blank space at the sides. whereas the old version takes up all the horizontal space you can give it.

That page reminds me a lot of the time Youtube changed it's layout (for the worse) which is not exactly the best of omens if you ask me. <_<

Not liking how everything is squished to the side. Almost feels like they want it to feel more like a blog now than wikipedia.

Whenever it comes to change of any sort no one can never do it right! Either that or it just takes getting used to.

It kinda makes more sense now I've seen it on a netbook. but then again the old one works on netbooks, *and* super-ultra-high-res widescreen monitors, so yeah. the old one does look pretty dated, and it is probably in need of an update, but they definitely could have handled it better. it is way harder to design something that works at any width, but a site as big as Wikia should really put the effort in. to me it just looks like they couldn't be arsed.

well the new layout is now visible on all wikis (if you have "new wikia look" selected in your preferences). so i guess we have two weeks to get it looking nice before it becomes the default.

the navigation bar basically sucks at the moment so i'll get on fixing that up. and then maybe fuck about with the theme if no one objects.

well i've put up a kind of temporary theme anyway.

imo the front page could use another column to work well in the new layout, but that'd mean it'd look cramped in the old one (which I guess lots of people will still be using). which is the exact opposite problem all the other pages have

I'm considering on moving to ShoutWiki seeing how the new Wikia layout has been causing some headaches and eye problems really. Last thing I need is someone pulling out their own eyeballs.

Anyway, if that's how Wikia feels about giving us eye cancer or whatever then they go play with their eye sockets for all I care. >_>
