1984-1992 / Dooly Bravo Land NES?(Daou 1992)

Dooly Bravo Land seems very broken, especially with the jumping. The music reminds me of Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory.

Game Boy / Does anyone know what company made this gbc game?
« on: December 21, 2012, 11:43:05 PM »
I immediately recognized that this was constructed off of something Vast Fame made with how the two sprites in the in-game screenshot (the character in bed and the dialogue cursor) looked.

If I had any cue in video game development, and if the engine Vast Fame made was available, I'd love to construct a game off that engine.

Famicom/NES dumps / Where to find Wario Land 5

I think I just laughed at the thought of someone confusing Mario for Wario or vice versa.

Game Boy / Gowin's Magic Lamp
« on: November 24, 2012, 01:16:21 AM »
Whelp, after a long delay, I finally got Magic Lamp along with Jurassic Boy 2 as a bonus game (thanks a bunch, fcgamer!).

Strangely, this cart of Magic Lamp doesn't get past the "GAME BOY" screen on most Game Boy models; the only ones it works on are the Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, and Game Boy Color, the latter having its D-Pad Right and START buttons worn out. Any of my GBA's, the Game Boy Player, and even the Super Game Boy are the systems where the game fails to boot, even if the "GOWIN" text replaces the "Nintendo" text.

From what I've gathered today, the game is challenging, but the only way I find it to be this when it comes to "fake difficulty" is because of the half-charge "sword" attack alike what Qiezei mentioned. It's good for taking out enemies at a close range, but since most of the enemies are across pits or pelting you with projectiles from a far distance, yea, it does get annoying. It'd be fine if Gowin could've programed a "Weapon Select" screen so you could define either partially-charged shots or the sword from the menu.

One thing that is quite strange is that unlike Mega Man's item-from-enemy system, where it only generates an item every other time, the enemies in Magic Lamp have a 100% drop rate of any of the four items. This in particular allowed me to gain a good number of lives, gameplay I did later on in the day got me two extra lives.

Of course the first boss, "Super" (what a terrible name), does seem beatable as much as trying to understand his pattern and staying as close to the opposite side of the screen so you're ready to dodge his lunge attack, but with how difficult it is to see the action on a Game Boy without a frontlit or backlit screen and having to rely on external sources (which the light can reflect off, distorting your vision), and having a Game Boy Color with a malfunctioning D-Pad very much makes it very unlikely that I'll defeat Super and make it to the second stage.

I'd still like to see the protection of Magic Lamp (or any other Gowin GB title) emulated in any emulator so I get a crystal-clear opportunity to beat the game with save-states, and even do a proper sprite rip of Sata and Tank.

I'd probably go with Vast Fame's Pokemon clones as they're very fun to play, but they're chucked full of glitches, especially when it comes to the Beast Deposit System (Shui Hu's is very buggy). I'd also allow access to earlier areas com earlier chapters (Shi Kong) and do some touchups on the monster sprites and enemy AI.

Game Boy / Gowin's Magic Lamp
« on: October 22, 2012, 09:02:11 PM »
I'm going to mention another reason I'd like this game. Let me just say "Mega-Fever" kicked in after the doujin game Rosenkreuzstilette Freudenstachel was released last Saturday. I'm also willing to recreate Magic Lamp from scratch on a PC in the future so it plays in bigger rooms (thus allowing more room in avoiding enemies) and rather than the close-range weapon that you get by accidentally releasing B too quickly, you instead release a bullet that has a strength that stands between the normal and fully charged shots.

I also had a good amount of experience playing the Mega Man games in earlier years (even if I find the bosses too fast for my skills) so I may be able to perform good progress in Magic Lamp.

I'm certain I'm not the only one that knows about this game, but after seeing it from Qiezei's interesting game footage posted last December, I am eager to try it. Sadly no dump of either the Chinese or English versions exists to my knowledge, and IMO it looks very interesting and something I'd find enjoyable (even if I'm not that good at Mega Man games in general, and those games are meant to be hard).

I'm uncertain if it's possible to dump this cart, as I've been told Gowin titles have loads of encrypted protection.

1993-1999 / Original Taiwanese/Chinese Famicom Games
« on: October 16, 2012, 11:06:30 PM »
The one original Famicom game I have the most connection to is Feng Shen Bang, which I find more polished than Jing Ke. Seems as if every other unlicensed FC original from my perspective is always something based on Chinese folklore.

This Super Maruo game doesn't look like it's worth my time. Dodge the dog, collect the girl, repeat. :/

Game Boy / Shi Kong Xing Shou - Galactic Beasts/Space Time Star Beast
« on: September 30, 2012, 02:06:58 AM »
Yea, I'm back; couldn't resist doing this.

I compiled up just about next to all the mugshots for SKXS+F and SKXS+P should they ever see the light of day. Sorry if the recolor of the shaded parts of everyone's skin makes them disturbingly realistic. Not sure what role Yan Long could take, though if I ever do have the newscasters from Crazy Monopoly (thanks for bringing it up on your personal blog, Qiezei), make an appearance, I'll use the original sprites as they're cleaner.

I actually like the concept of the second level; probably haven't seen a platformer pull off something like that in some time.

To be fair I do like the Lemmings GBC soundtrack, but yea, Sintax overuses it; like with the Pokemon Pinball music in all those SMBDX clones.

Game Boy / West Story (西遊記)
« on: September 22, 2012, 08:54:42 PM »
If the game does receive a dump, I'd very likely give it a shot.

Though all I have to ask by far; is there a Prodius game either on the Famicom or Game Boy that the music used in both this game and Harry Potter 3 originated from? They are quite catchy tunes, alike the ones normally used in V.Fame games.

Game Boy / Shi Kong Xing Shou - Galactic Beasts/Space Time Star Beast
« on: September 06, 2012, 01:25:58 AM »
Big apologies for the bump, but I was able to submit my sheets from Shi Kong onto the Spriters Resource (However I left out the mugshot sheet because it lacks the animal characters like the pig and crab, and the Beasts since like mentioned earlier, they are just cropped from their in-game sprites, with Bladeberus' eye modified. And I need to finalize what side-characters use unique mugshots and which ones just use the ones shared by multiple characters). I also didn't submit the monster graphics I'm using for SKXS+ since they are a mix of Shui Hu Shen Shou's beasts as well as Shi Kong, and they are also in greyscale, not color alike the game itself.

The intro graphics of Yan were also put on a separate page for Shui Hu Shen Shou, and like Shi Kong, I didn't submit Shui Hu's mugshots as they are incomplete.

If I get enough motivation, I may continue playing Shi Kong to get the proper color palettes for all the Beasts and the non-human character mugshots, and dig deep in with YY-CHR to find any mugs that may have gone unused.
