Well! For a start, the San Andreas mods are just stolen (except they changed some graphics and offsets, which is pretty easy). I have the mod on my old computer and my Xbox, and it includes those models from the games.

[Yes, the below is redundant-- I originally created this as a separate topic, and realizing my mistake, merged it. But it's still well worth checking out the Syrian Games link at the bottom, because it has even more inspired nonsense.]

A columnist for The AV Club found some PS2 bootlegs at a flea market in Nairobi. Both the box art, and the actual hacks themselves, are...inspired.

But then one of his fellow columnists decided to investigate the Syrian bootlegging outfit behind some of them, and discovered even more inspired madness. Some of these rival the utterly incongruous choices of cover art in KaSheng's Famicom bootlegs.

Edited to add: Be sure to check out the Syrian Games site--the PS1 and PS2 sections, especially--for even more bizarre cover art!

I think the process behind the whole box art design is to take some art related to the game and then add a random background, which often doesn't fit the tone of the game at all. :P

Also, I think Taizou posted a topic like this but I forget.

Beatles in Guitar Hero??????
That's totally what it was like before Beatles Rock Band.
Too bad they didn't make a Classical Band game. :(
Also, what exactly is the Robocop game like? Is it an original game?
Does it really suck? All I can see is the box art, with a police car,
Robocop, and a.....RAINBOW?!!! What the heck? The Saw GTA hack
seems creepy, but boring, as there are no missions.

Yeah, I just noticed Taizou's thread. I'll merge this into it.
HEEE. This may be one of my favorites from the Syrian Games catalogue:

Avatar: The Last Airbender: Into the Inferno

I suppose this is what happens when the box art designers are told they're doing an Avatar game without any more specific detail.
Fantastic 5. Sequel numbers do not work that way!
The GTA hacks mentioned in the original article are somehow not the weirdest. Goofy? Donald? Barbie?!

I like the 8.3 billion variations of GTA San Andreas they have, like GTA Michael Jackson, GTA Shaun the Sheep and GTA Barbie. And I thought those Super Mario hacks on the Famicom were oddballs.

Then again, I suspect they're probably homebrew hacks that were stuck on a CD or something.

The GTA and Guitar Hero hacks are VERY common in my town. You should see the cumbia villera version of Guitar Hero, complete with pics of Fernet bottles on the case. I also remember my mate Matt giving me a version of GH based around Pink Floyd :P
