Pokey
« on: July 30, 2011, 01:57:30 PM »
As I'm sure some of you are aware, NTDEC made a game called Pokey in 1989 which hasn't been dumped in its original form yet. However, I managed to find the PRG data for the game hidden in the Caltron 6-in-1. This, combined with the graphics from the Asder 20-in-1 has allowed me to compile the game as it was originally made without being split up into 4 seperate games. :D

hey awesome. :D its nice to see what this game was supposed to be like originally - the mini games were kinda pointless on the 20 in 1 version.

if i'm not mistaken it's also the earliest original NTDEC game by a long ass way.

Now we just need someone to find a copy of Destructor for the NES.

I can't believe it! You're awesome, thank you very much!
Now there's one less game that needs to be dumped. :)

How did you combine the data into a ROM? :o Pretty impressive![/quote]Well I was looking through the Caltron 6-in-1 to see if I could find the data for Adam & Eve (as far as I'm aware there's no seperate ROM dump of it yet) and I figured that with the graphics for the game being right at the end of the file, the rest of the data would be at the end of the PRG bank. Turns out, they had a spare 32KB lying there which was used for Pokey and they didn't really go to the trouble of changing the copyrights or anything like that. The graphics are taken from the Asder 20-in-1, and I removed the last 2 CHR banks as I'm pretty sure those weren't in the original game.

If you don't mind my asking Cheetah, what other tools do you use besides TLP to do these NES rom edits? I have a few ideas I'd really like to see come to life with some of these pirates.. Simple changes that would make a world of difference.

Not to be off topic or anything :X

Oh yeah, I always forget about Super Maruo. Duck is the first Taiwanese Famicom game I guess.

I don't know how to play that game still, as I keep losing :( Can anyone provide hints on it?

Bascially, you have to try to get the best poker hand as you can, with a pair of jacks or higher counting as a win. You can discard any cards you want with the B button.
