Tabor's Dumps
« on: December 21, 2024, 11:17:22 PM »
Just a place for me to dump my GB/C dumps. Everything is going to be a raw dump or a trimmed one. I don't modify them to make them work on non-hhugboy emulators since I'm not very well versed in that sort of thing. I'll get around to posting everything I have over the next few days or what not. Please excuse all the really long file names I give everything.

I've also got a public list of all unlicensed and bootleg GB/C games I can find that are either on Handheld Underground, The Internet Archive, Bootleg Games Central, or on the BGC Discord. DISCLAIMER: I can never guarantee any ROMs you download from other sources will be virus-free, be cautious and scan files if you feel you need to.

Starting off is the Chinese version of Donkey Kong 5: The Journey Of Over Time And Space by Sintax. Not too much else to say here.

A strange alternate version of Ha Li Bo Te (哈利波特), also known as Harry Potter 2: The black art wtrstle edition. This version has no introduction text at all for some reason. In addition, the Game Over (after not continuing) does not work the same as the other two dumps I'm aware of. taizou's English dump goes to a glitchy introduction and a Chinese dump on The Internet Archive simply crashes. This one goes back to the introduction just fine.

This is a Chinese language hack of Pokemon: Yellow Version. Based on the copyright on the title screen, it's based on the International release. It's not... great. The size of Chinese characters in a game not meant to accommodate them means glitches and compromises. I'm always on the lookout for variations of these Chinese Pokemon translation hacks.

This was interesting because I remember hearing about the infamous Pokemon Diamond and Jade when I was younger but never knew there were various different versions behind the scenes. Typically Diamond is a hack of Telefang Power and Jade of Speed. However this particular Chinese copy of Jade is a hack of Power. Why? No clue.

If you want to play this ROM, make sure you use the "Pokemon Jade/Diamond" compatibility mode in hhugboy.

Featuring: Budget Rayquaza and definitely Pokemon Emerald

So far I've only played the very beginning of this hack of Pokemon Gold, but so far it seems like it's just a Chinese translation hack with a different title screen. Oh, also there is no RTC and time moves I think 2-3 times faster than in real life. Which still sucks a lot because that means you'd need to play 8 hours in order to move the day ahead once.

I'm not 100% sure that the publisher is called Tian Ren Electronics Factory (天任电子厂). I've just seen that name on the back of a box for a bootleg this unknown company released of Turrican. Maybe it's just where they outsourced the physical production of items.

It's Pokemon Pearl! Just kidding, it's the 2nd Trading Card game for the Gameboy Color in Chinese. I bought this wondering if it was something I'd never heard of before but I forgot that I've seen some bootleg copies of the TCG have "Pearl" in the titles, possibly in reference to the Energy cards.

A trimmed file this time, the header information was causing it to automatically dump as a 1mb file which didn't work, so I overdumped it (as my dumper doesn't allow for a specific dump size) and trimmed it down to 2mb.

A less common bootleg translation of Pokemon Blue based on the North American Version. The title screen certainly looks a lot better than the more common version for sale which means it could have been more recently produced.

EDIT: A bit late, but I think based on the fact that the title screen utilizes Traditional Chinese this is probably off Taiwanese origin.

Although this game has already been dumped by Ankos from a multicart, my dump seems to have slightly different data. To be honest I'm not sure what is actually different, just that the dumps aren't the exact same so here is mine just in case.

Odd, I thought I'd already posted this but I must have misremembered. Down the rabbit hole of Pokemon Diamond and Jade lore again, there seems to be different versions of Diamond and Jade featuring a Pikachu head title screen (copied over from Pokemon Pinball as pointed out eagle-eyed people in the BGC Discord). This version also retains the company credits in the intro and even has the correctly colored tree trunks in the intro sequence.

This one is the Diamond version but I'm aware that a Jade version exists due to a screenshot on the Wiki. Definitely still have my eye out for that one.

The cart art doesn't feature Digimon at all, in-fact this was pointed out on the BGC Discord that the little monsters on the front actually seem to come from Gowin box art. Whether they actually come from somewhere else entirely is unknown (to me at least).

A multicart rip of a bootleg translation of Pokemon Gold into English, better known as Hong Kong Gold. I plan to play through it (or Silver) eventually as I'd like to experience all the wackiness on my own.

Same as the just above post, a multicart rip of a bootleg translation of Pokemon Silver into English. Oh and if you're curious, the name of the translation group can be found in the naming menu.

Dumped from a standalone cart, it seems to be different from taizou's multicart rip. Not sure what is different though.
