Rocman X 1993
« on: February 28, 2021, 10:28:26 PM »
hello has anyone tryed to play rocman x on real hardware? i just did and the second level is gliched very bad. Does anyone have the rom that this is fixed?
I found a post where they talk about it being mirroring-4 for emulators. But the game was made for nes long before emulators. Can some one help with the fixed rom? here is where i found some info.    https://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12512

This is not something that needs to be "fixed" on a ROM level. The ROM is correct as it is. It has special board hardware requirements: it must have board hardware that adds the memory for four nametables. This corresponds to the NES-TVROM and NES-TR1ROM circuit boards. It will not run on a standard MMC3 board. Whether this game was made before emulators is irrelevant, as four-screen mirroring was not invented by emulators.

Thanks Mr. NewRisingSun for explaining i wondered why it was glitching on a real nes as well. So in theory i could put the rom on a TR1ROM board and it should run correctly?

That's correct. The problem is that only a single game came on a TR1ROM board: the licensed version of Gauntlet from Tengen, and even that came in DRROM and TR1ROM variants. The DRROM variant is not usable for Rocman X because of ROM size restrictions; only the TR1ROM variant can be used. Rad Racer II is another game that uses 4-screen mirroring, but its TVROM board cannot be used for Rocman X either, again because of ROM size restrictions.

Therefore, Rocman X (and Jurassic Boy 2, which is similar) maybe among the most difficult games to put on a donor board.

has there been a custom flash board that can handle the rom size and mapper? I dont care if its on an original board or not. I just want a hard copy. Also on a side note that pacman CE didn't turn out for me. I tried asking 2 game reproduction store's to have it made for me and they said it was too hard for them to make.

I know nothing about ready-made custom flash boards. Ask on the nesdev reproduction forum.

No chance. Napoleon Senki's board has 4-screen mirroring, but no MMC3 ASIC, which Rocman X needs.

i am trying to get rocman made and pacman ce. I found this site that you have to google translate in english.

https://maximaas.github.io/blog/fc/2017/08/16/Namcot-163%E5%8D%A1%E5%B8%A6%E7%9A%84%E6%94%B9%E9%80%A0.html

This guy made a donor for pac man ce but wanted Sangokushi II: Haou no Tairiku. This was done years before there was a pacman ce demake. But if someone rebuilt this pcb. Pac man ce can be made right? Do you know anyone that can make this?

I already answered that. I know nothing about anybody who can make anything. Ask on nesdev.
