Yong Yong
« on: August 09, 2010, 12:50:50 PM »
I was just looking through the roms of numerous Yong Yong games and I noticed the coding before the game name is almost identical between them. As well as this, Thunder Blast Man's is the same. Would that suggest that Yong Yong coded Thunder Blast Man or stole the engine from it? Not only this, but the rom of Rockman 8 calls it Rockman 99 in the rom, Sonic 3D Blast 5 is called Sonic 5 and Thunder Blast Man is called Thunder Blaster HY.

Huh, that's interesting. I have a weird feeling maybe Yong Yong did help Sachen program it.

I wouldn't be surprised. Yong Yong's games are pretty similar to Thunder Blast Man if you ask me.

It has been discussed on RX. We think that EHY may be responsible for some of those games due to the fonts and the fact that EHY was still working with Sachen in 1994 so he may have programmed Rocman X (Thunder thing) in 1995.

...but what explains the Yong Yong part? Was EHY involved with Yong Yong in their other games? (Aside from Thunder Blast Man)

Are there are any credits in Thunder Blast Man or does it just send you back to the map screen when you beat the game? Mind you, the latter happens in Rockman 8.

Jurassic Boy 2 is weird though. it uses EHY fonts too but its way better than any Yong Yong Sonic-ish game. whereas Thunder Blast Man just seems to be built off Rockman 8's engine, complete with shitty Yong Yong music.

Thunder Blast Man is colour though. I don't think they would have taken a step backwards and made Rockman 8 in mono after that.

I'd say that makes sense for Rockman 8 to be first but if Sachen used the engine afterwards then would that mean Yong Yong was associated with them?

I think so. probably what happened is Sachen wanted to develop some new GBC games in 1999-2000, but they'd already laid off all their development staff in ~1995, so they outsourced Thunder Blast Man to Yong Yong. if EHY worked for both then they'd already have a contact there.

Jurassic Boy 2 is still kind of a mystery to me though. and i've never played/seen/anything GBC Street Heroes.

Rockman 8 is not mono, guys.
I used the mono setting to make the platforms at least appear more frequently.

I apologize EXTREMELY for bumping this old thread, but knowing pirates, they probably did use TBH as a base to make RM8.
It seems like a stretch, but I'd believe it.
