Somari Discussion
« on: December 18, 2016, 12:39:12 AM »
I know I'm not exactly first to the party, heck, Somari's been around longer than I've been alive. But I've found the topic facinating. Somari is so close to being a good game. Initially, I was confused what made it not. But I think I've narrowed it down to two problems.

1: The amount of Enemies. Buzz Bombers are everywhere.

#2: Somari's momentum. Somari takes a second to reach his full speed like in the original, but the speed you go at initally is way too slow. It feels like the controls are fighting you and you can barely move. Since the game requires platforming, this becomes a problem.

If the second was fixed, It would be an alright game. What do you all think?

You're in luck! Somari's controls were fixed recently. The only problem left is the ungodly mount of Buzz Bombers.

Not going to lie to you:

Somari was the very first video game I have ever played and beated back in the days. It is decent conversion of the original Mega Drive game, but it just takes a very long time to get used to the controls, and memorize patterns.

For fixes I can recommend you this: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3223/
It fixes a lot of the clipping problems and the music (tough I like the original arrangement by Yí Zhèng).
It is really the ultimate Sonic The Hedgehog experience on the NES.

There's also the music and gfx ones you can add for an even better experience! Just make sure you have a xdelta3 patcher.
