Which Famiclone to buy?
« on: July 06, 2015, 01:49:12 PM »
Okay you guys, I am getting money very soon.

And I plan to spend it on a famiclone and hopefully I can get some games.

But my mother told me that if it's from China, Hong Kong, or Taiwan, they have different connectors instead of Red Yellow and White.

Which Famiclone is good for me? and make sure it has Red Yellow and White connectors (I know some of you own a REAL famiclone, that's why I'm asking)

They all have the same red, yellow and white connectors, no worries there. The only potential issue is whether it's NTSC or PAL - I don't know which country you're in but that may be a a problem if your TV can't handle the signal.

as for which one to get - these Hamy clones are usually decent quality (or at least the one I had like ten years ago was):

ah they're two different TV standards, the US uses NTSC. So if you try to use a PAL Famiclone and your TV doesn't support it, you might get a black-and-white or unstable picture. I think most modern TVs support both now, but I'm not entirely sure.

(NTSC Famiclones are usually better anyway - most Famicom games are designed for NTSC and run slower on a PAL system)

Anyway the one I linked is NTSC (according to the listing at least) so it shouldn't be a problem, but if you're buying one from China and it isn't specified you should probably check with the seller first - China is generally a PAL country, although NTSC stuff is sold there too.

Get an older clone.  The quality is generally better than the newer, NOAC-style stuff.

Anyone know another site I could shop for famiclones?

What sort of clone are you looking for?

I got rid of most of my "extra" clones, but I still might have one or two lying around that I wouldn't feel terrible about selling.  The problem would be controllers though, as most of the clones I have just came loose, but I might be able to piece something together that doesn't look too bad.

I think more importantly though, is how much you are looking to spend on getting a clone (including shipping cost).  $20?  $50?  $80?

Unfortunately, since I had completely forgotten that my family wanted a Blu-Ray for Christmas and they may not have the money for it, I ended up wanting to help them since I was getting money. Lock this please, KingPepe?
