Decided to plunge into this rabbit hole once more and I've actually managed to discover some striking new information!

First off, the game "Красный Краб" is a ROM hack of Super Mario Bros originally developped in December of 2005 which was later released in the first issue of the magazine TOF in 2006. By the developers its considered a milestone ROM hack in the scene since it's one of the first hacks to fully change everyting about a game, not just a few sprites.
The developers are Cari and TiberiyLTim.

Now about Cari. They're actually not one person but two brothers who shared a username at the time. They're also not even Russian but Ukranian. The name of one of the brothers behind Cari is "Голубев" (Golubev), born in the Soviet Union and in 2005 living in Украина г. Днепропетровск (Ukraine, Dnepropetrovsk)

"This year is the 10th anniversary of the release of the first Russian made ROM hack on the NES - "Red crab". This ROM hack was made in December 2005 and release to the public in the first issue of the electronic magazine "TOF", which was devoted to video games, emulation, romhacking and so on. Prior to this hack, independent romhackers had not been making full-scale hacks. A surprising exception was Kabal with his "UMKT" on SMD. At the time, the creation of mods only extended to crude redrawings of the characters or increases in the number of lives ("cheat hacks"), but such hacks, which changed almost everything (graphics, text, levels, sound, etc.) almost never existed from private ROM hackers."

"I came across the Super Mario Bros hack by Cari. It was the nickname of two brothers who were extremely illiterate, as they lived in Dnepropetrovsk and were quite young. And nobody wanted to work with them because they were behind a series of NES/SMD game translations into Russian of terrible quality. Perhaps some of their translations have been preserved to this day at bit16.ru."

This is from the mentioned TOF magazine, which I'll also post below. To read it, set the encoding to "Cyrillic (Windows)" otherwise you'll only see a jambled mess of characters:

From the "Redaction" page of the "Authors" section:

cari
-------------------------
Name: Galubev
Place of Birth: USSR Russia
Residence: Ukraine, Dnepropetrovsk

Golubev is not a first name, but a surname. I say this as a Russian person. In their translations of NES games, they call themselves "Голубевы", which is plural. And if they are brothers, then they both have the surname Golubev.

If their last name is "Golubev", then the assumption that "BMB" means the initials of the developer is incorrect.
