Video footage of Terrifying 911
« on: December 12, 2010, 08:15:26 PM »
I just found a video review of Terrifying 911, Hitek's September 11-themed "Metal Slug" clone, that was posted on YouTube.

The bad news: The entire narration is in Portuguese. (Do we have any speakers of that language here?)

The good news: It actually has gameplay video, in which the music is even partially audible. What I can hear of it, it sounds like it uses the same sound engine as "Heroic Sword"-- understandable, since that's also made by Hitek. And the graphic quality is surprisingly good-- much better than Metal Slug 2001/Beet Terrif Battle.

Anyway, here 'tis:

Doesn't look too bad, could pass as an official game.

Too bad it's not dumped yet.

The box seems to be in fairly good English, or at least from what I saw.

Incidentally, I have a very strong suspicion that Hitek's sound driver is hacked from none other than Link's Awakening. It's especially noticeable in the game known in GoodGB as "Bokujou Monogatari GB2", which has nothing to do with Harvest Moon but whose ROM header claims otherwise; the "secret revealed" sound effect from Zelda is used within the game's menus. Seriously.

What other games have Hitek done? I don't think I recognize the name.

The logo screen appears to be hacked out in the dumped versions, but it's buried in the ROM's graphics.

I've never heard of this one, and all ROMs I find are just the official Harvest Moon GB 2 game. Any link to the ROM by chance?

Incidentally, the reason the logo screen is skipped in the dumps of both Heroic Sword and NotBokujou? Probably because both of those are dumps of Li Cheng releases; they've both got the "Niutoude" logo. (Probably because those were the only un-copy-protected versions, similar to Rockman DX3.)

But they're definitely made by Hitek - those are the only two unlicensed games where I recall seeing their logo buried in the ROM's graphics.
Incidentally, the actual title of the not-Bokujou game is 金庸群侠传II Jin Yong Qun Xia Chuan II. What's weird is that I can't find it on the list of known Li Cheng games, but it definitely has a Niutoude boot logo.
