Jungletac handy max 15-in-1
« on: July 21, 2014, 11:55:52 AM »
Got this one some years ago in Québec and no info about it yet.

Does someone knows about it?

BTW, this is my first post.

I would also love to let someone dump it.

I don't know a great deal about this one, guess its an early (Famiclone-based-kinda) Jungletac system though.. could you post the game list by any chance?

cah4e3 has dumped a Jungletac console, although it couldn't be emulated properly (no emulator supported its graphics mode) so this one would probably be similar, he (or someone else) might be able to dump it but it probably won't be easily emulatable, unless it uses more standard hardware than the other one.

Awesome. I'm a Montrealer; good to find another fellow old-school gamer around here.

ah wow, thanks, very thorough! It looks like the earlier Jungletac stuff, which is kinda rare these days - some of these games do show up on their current consoles, but usually with the title screens hacked out and the music replaced.

Dunno if this is relevant, but I have a Jungletac console that I bought long ago in 2005 that had 50 games in it. Very much every one used the same old Konami sound chip. The only real memorable games it had were Elfland and Fire Fighter, but I do remember it having Ultra Doggy just like the Handy Max (although the title screen in the 50-in-1 was a bit more dull; there was no copyright info and the only setting on the menu was "Start"). The 50-in-1 also had Jewel Master, Move Fun and Space Castle, and they had the same abridged title screen as Ultra Doggy.

I noticed from the screens that Block Shock and Omega Zone are extensive hacks of Arkanoid and Galaga respectively; Heck I'm sure perhaps just like that "Scoring" game that was in the same multicart that had Super Shrek Bros; Block Shock has the exact same CHR data as Arkanoid does, so even if these were dumped and unplayable in an emulator for whatever reason, I could still access the CHR via YY-CHR as long as it's recognizable; and replace the CHR's of Arkanoid and Galaga with those of the Jungletac hacks.

Thanks for the info. BTW, can you also change some of the sounds in the roms? I wanted to record some footage, but when i tried, there was no sound. I'll try to record using my iPod next time, but the quality will not be very good. The best i can do for now is to record the footage on a VHS tape.

Good luck to change the music. It could be possible, but you'll have to change the original games' sound engine for konami's one.
I've just finished recording footage on VHS tape. Now to find a way to transfer it to my pc.

Damn. I found an adapter to convert vhs to digital, but it's too expensive for me. Be patient, i'll post footage in the next minutes.
BTW, does cah4e3 still has his JungleTac bad dump? Maybe we could take a closer look at it.
Video footage leaked on Youtube!!

ah cool! I can see why they don't use most of those games anymore, some of them are just straight-up hacks (albeit good ones).

Here's Cah4e3's dump of a 120 in 1 Jungletac handheld (he posted it on here a while back but the link is down):
https://mega.co.nz/#!1EQnADqR!6nvjCl-l5lbG0SnjUGY87Ijjtit3YbiYEDLrjcMcI88
AFAIK the dump is good, it's just that nothing emulates the custom video mode of their specific type of modified NES clone. Some games do run if you can manage to navigate your way through the menus though.

btw, if you're looking for a video capture solution, there are tons of cheap USB video capture devices out there for under $10, stuff like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB2-0-Video-TV-Tuner-DVD-Audio-Capture-Card-Converer-Adapter-for-Win7-8-Mac-OS-/191257374943?pt=US_Video_Capture_TV_Tuner_Cards&hash=item2c87d3f0df
just search for "usb video capture" on ebay or amazon or similar.
you should be able to connect your VCR to it to capture your existing recordings (if it has composite or S-Video outputs) or just record directly from the console.
