Ok so after searching around a bit, I noticed Titenic's/Harry's Legend's music isn't exactly original and actually did come from the movie's soundtrack. The only thing is that the NES versions are faster then the original and slightly different.

Level 3/Select Screen of Harry's Legend and Track 4 of MK4's NSF is Rose's Theme:

Level music (other then Level 3) of Harry's Legend is the Titanic theme (Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On), start at 0:20:

I really didnt know where to put this, but I suppose it counts as being famicom related... :P

Any pirate game enthusiast should instantly be able to recognize this tune..

I didnt play that well, Im not claiming to be van halen or anything, but this tune in particular always gets stuck in my head, so I figured I would learn it :p

first one to tell me specifically where it comes from gets a cookie! There are 2 right answers!

1993-1999 / SF3 and SF4 Backgrounds..
« on: January 20, 2011, 10:26:18 PM »
I want to point out some similarities between these two backgrounds, from SF3 and SF4:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

-They both have a moon/sun behind clouds in the top left corner.
-They both have stereotypical asian buildings to the right
-The floor looks like it's almost the same (obviously not copy pasted, but based off of the same original image)
-They both have a fence with multiple Lions in front of the buildings

So this stage/setting must exist in another video game somewhere, that they both looked at and tried to imitate. but WHAT game is it from? Does anybody know?

That looks like a rip and edit more than a trace, personally I think the same brains were behind both Titenic and EWJ, still unsure about Harry though.

...yeah, really makes the game more playable.
And something tells me that if Mario gains speed on jumps by using a GG code... someone did put a limitation on his jumps on purpose, originally.[/quote]I wonder why they would do that (if that is the case)? Seems lke it would make more sense to have him move as close to possible as the original. But you'll notice if you dont run and jump, with this code, he still goes to running seed in mid air, meaning there's no "momentum" type stuff at all programmed into this game :P

They're just retarded game programmers[/quote]
Oh god stop saying that. They are awesome, great programmers ang game planners. They have experienced people doing graphics. They are not retarded. The more you say they are retarded the angryer I'll be.[/quote]If they really were that great, there wouldn't be so many obvious flaws and easy exploits in their fighting games. Capcom were great developers. I agree that these guys are good and clearly experienced, and in fact their games have by FAR the best graphics of the NES. But still, the gameplay flaws are horrible in some cases - SMW Nes is only fun with the code YUSUPLAZ because Mario doesn't slow down to a halt when he jumps.

Kart Fighter, AV Girl fighting or Mortal Kombat Special II are the best of their fighting games, because there are so few exploits in the gameplay. They all have special moves and they just play really well, but other than that.. SF Alpha Zero 97 is far far too easy.... I can own any opponent by spamming the hell out of them, and it's literally impossible for them to get out of it. That's not exactly awesome programming.. Its a lazy game thrown together to make money, and yes the game LOOKS really awesome, but no, it plays like shit. They could have done better and didn't.

Anyway, don't be mad  :thumb: I'm just here to research pirated NES games and stuff. I commend Hummer for their good games (but hate their crappy ones), and wonder why they didn't just try that little bit harder and produce some truly amazing NES stuff.

1993-1999 / MK4 made by Hummer?
« on: January 17, 2011, 03:35:07 AM »
Would you mind giving me a few links to where this has been discussed? I've looked on the RX community forums and can't find it.. I'd like to read it for myself, and maybe add in a few things if they haven't already been said. It seems like there's a lot of mis-information about pirated games out there, so it would be good to read more of what people have discovered and stuff.

Honestly I thought this was the forum with the most pirated game discussion :P I'm glad to hear its not just a few crazies like myself who research the history of these obscure games.

EDIT: Also,

..And SFZ297 isn't badly programmed. Difficulty is high but the whole game is good..[/quote]

Believe me, this game is terribly programmed - and the difficulty is very, VERY low (you can see that in the video I posed above). Here's my reasoning: There are many ways to get the other player stuck until you kill them and they have no way to get out, the "victory" noise doesn't even play at the end of every round, the CPU does grabs randomly when they're nowhere near you (just like in MK4) and you can throw someone, walk to where they are going to land, throw them again, and get them stuck like that as well. The beginning cutscene is nice, but MK 2 Special and Kart Fighter have far superior gameplay.

1993-1999 / Pirated Fighting Game Combos (Moves)
« on: January 17, 2011, 12:17:49 AM »
I've been trying to figure out every combo for every charachter in Kart Fighter.. Mario has 4, Nokonoko has 2, and everyone else has 3, although Luigi's moves (besides hadouken) can only be done by the CPU.

Code:

Mari:
Down + Forward + Punch = Hadouken
Back + Back + Kick = Flying Kick
Up (Jump) + Down + Kick = 'Hop' kick
Back + Forward + Punch = Shoryuken (Uppercut)

Peach:
Down + Forward + Punch = Hadouken
Down + Back + Kick = Twirl (easy to spam)
Back + Down + Kick = Hair Attack (weird and somewhat pontless)

Bowser (Koopa):
Down + Forward + Punch = Hadouken
Down + Down + Punch = Chomp/Stomp? (another pointless one)
? + ? = Shell Charge

DK Junior:
Down + Forward + Punch = Hadouken (lol, banana)
Down + Back + Kick = Shoryuken (Actually, its more like Sagat's Tiger Uppercut)
? + ? = Twirl (Exactly like Peach's one)

Koopa (Nokonoko):
Back + Forward + Kick = Turtle Shell
Down + Back + Punch = Shell Charge

Yoshi:
Down + Forward + Punch = Hadouken
Down + Forward + Kick = Tongue Attack (pointless, it does no more damage than a punch, just like Peach's hair attack)
Forward + Down + Kick = Flying Tail Attack (Like Ryu/Ken's flying kick)

Toad (Kinopio):
Down + Forward + Punch = Hadouken
Forward + Up + Kick = Flying Kick
Back + Back + Punch = Uppercut (Just like DK Junior's)

Luigi:
Down + Forward + Punch = Hadouken
If you guys can figure out the 2 missing combos, that would be awesome. I couldnt find another page like this anywhere.

1993-1999 / MK4 made by Hummer?
« on: January 16, 2011, 10:00:49 PM »
So I've found a small bit of proof that MK4 (The really dodgy one using a bastardized KF engine) is indeed related to all the other Hummer/JY fighters of the time, and unsurprisingly the proof is in the text:

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/7935/piratedsimilar.png

You can see that after the alphabet and number 0-9 in each game, there is a [. .] followed by a [ - ] and a weird little Orb which might have been a pointer of some sort. Also, the numbers use the EXACT same font. MK4 (bottom left corner) also has this. Also, you might notice Garou Densetsu Special's alphabet font was directly ripped and re-used for Street Fighter Alpha Zero 97, the newest and apparently last of Hummer's fighting games (A pretty crappily programmed one at that) and the KF engine's final spin. More proof of common ancestry!

But what I find really weird is how poorly made MK4 is. The music, the gameplay physics, the timing, the charchter select screen - it all SUCKS in comparison to MKII and MKII special, which of course came first. The grabs don't work right, and you can cause a never-ending round by rapidly pressing B and kicking your dead opponent as the round is attempting to end. In this I see several possibilites - They got one or more new programmers (which would mean some of the old/more experienced programmers left) right beore development for this game started (of course, using the KF engine- they see it as their ol' reliable) and as they went to work it became increasingly obvious they had no idea how to, you know, MAKE A GAME. Sheesh this thing is bad even compared to SFII., which to be fair was the first of the pirated fighters.

On a related note, music from Harry's Legend is in Mortal Kombat 4.. if you make it to Stryker's stage, listen close - its the "level select" music from Harry's Legend, but in a different key! Its like another case of DK JR's stage in Fart Fighter, and the boss music from Jing Zin Quan or whatever that old supertone RPG is called. Crazyness, people!

EDIT: This video will prove to you guys that MK4 came after Harry's Legend and Garou Densetsu Special, and paved the way to Street Fighter Alpha Zero '97 (AKA The Death of Hummer Team)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2gwLh6FFX4

This pirated NES game stuff just gets weirder and weirder. I'd like to use the PC they were building these games from, and shuck off my own pirated NES game using the Kart Fighter engine - Have a Mari V.S. Rayden battle, or maybe Chun Li V.S. Sub Zero... lmao. That would kick ass.

I suppose from a business point of view, you would want the NES SF to be a bit old by the time you release NES MK, because the market is ready for some new material. Very logical, in fact I'm surprised the pirates were smart enough to realize this.  :P When it comes to making money they actually seem to be really smart, I mean hell, as a kid I probably would have gone for their flashy logo's over the non-pirated, less intersting looking games. They're just retarded game programmers.

Also, I never noticed the white border around the cartridge art. That's a really good time reference.

So SFIII Was in between SFII and Master Fighter 6/ Mortal Kombat / Fart Kiter / whatever else... Hmm, thats interesting.

If someone hasn't already made one, we badly need a timeline with all (Cony, Hummer, etc) pirated fighting NES games included. That'd be a tough job for me though, because I'm still not so sure about the dates for all these games :P

Okay, so I've picked 10 different fighting games and loaded every possible combination of states between them. The games are:

AV Girl Fighting
Dragon Ball z -Super Butoden 2
Garou Densetsu Special
Kart Fighter
Master Fighter II (SFII nes)
Mortal Kombat II
Mortal Kombat 4
Mortal Kombat II Special
Street Fighter Alpha Zero 97
Street Fighter IV

Most of them just froze, rarely with some glitchy movement or scattered bits of music. But what I noticed is that AV Girl, Garou, Kart, and MK2 Special are the 4 most similar-to-one-another out of the batch - Thay all had at least semi-interesting results with attempted loads - DK JR with Sub Zero's pallete looks pretty funny. Again, here's a video for clarification:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQ1LU3XAeY0

What I find really odd is that MK2 Special works a bit with them, but MKII regular does not. Perhaps MKII Comes before the engine that those 4 use that came from the SFII engine, and then it was developed into this one (the KF/special version) and then with DBZ it was another update, and so on? From a pirates point of view, it would make more sense to instantly release an MK Pirate after your SF pirate, rather than making some whack Mario-SF mix. But who knows, pirates are retarded.

Save games from Kart Fighter can be loaded by AV Girl Fighting and vice versa.. Most of the Hummer Team fighters use this engine, but it's altered enough between games to where they wont load (Mortal Kombat II for example) However these 2 are made from the same build of the same engine, something I've yet to discover in these pirates.
