Dumping of certain famiclones
« on: September 22, 2012, 05:31:22 AM »
I know Ray of lightning started this similar topic and I have one question to make before I start doing all of these in the future, can these certain Famiclones can be dumped because it is the same hardware as the NES/Famicom had. So what ROM Dumper do I have to use?

"Famiclone" is a term specifically used to refer to pirated hardware, not cartridges. For NES/Famicom I think the only available dumper out there is called CopyNES, and it's something you have to build yourself or something. I'm not entirely clear. There's no widely available dumper for Famicom cartridges though, because games all use different type of mappers, which makes things difficult.

Best thing to do in the case of Famicom unless you think you'll be dumping LOTS of stuff is to just send it to someone like CaH4e3 or kevtris.

if you actually do want to dump the built-in games from Famiclones (as in, consoles) if they use standard flash or ROM chips IIRC you'd have to desolder them and use some kind of reader to dump them. If they use gloptops I have no idea if it's even possible.
