Angry Birds and Plants Vs Zombies
« on: July 07, 2012, 09:50:51 AM »
Maxzhou88 recently posted pages about Famicom ports of Angry Birds and Plants Vs Zombies. I've never played the original games (expects to hit with several projectiles for saying that) but the games seem to be direct ports of the originals. Well, apart from the second game on the former page which is obviously a hack of The New Zealand Story. :P

The lack of coverage on the internet suggests that it was developed by pirates, but I can't tell who from the screenshots.

I've seen both of them on handhelds on Taobao (made by Qi Sheng Long I think), if I had to guess I'd say they were probably made by Nice Code... anyway "ROM is in the test finishing" according to a google translation of those posts, so I guess we'll have a dump soon.

Between the fact that they've been spotted on Qi Sheng Long's consoles, and just the general look of the game (even the fonts)... I'm seconding the Nice Code guess.

Yeah, as far as I can tell, Nice Code would definitely be behind this. Or Inventor, even better.

And I do expect the physics on Angry Birds to be screwed up and that there's possibly gonna be only one kind of bird you can throw, considering I already see that all the available birds are not shown nearby the slingshot, but on the HUD.

So, is there a dumped rom of Plants Vs Zombies for NES/Famicom somewhere?
Did someone got a hold of that?

Yeah, typical Nice Code rubbish. The fact that they both share the same music only further solidifies this fact. Not to mention the "Dragon Co. Font" among other things. Personally, I'm sticking to the original games.

Yeah these are pretty bad. I always try to stick up for Nice Code - based mostly on games no one else has played ): - but when they put out crap like this it doesn't help their case much.

And BTW, both games don't even have a real ending, which it's typical of Nice Code's crap. At least the recently-dumped Da Hua Shui Hu RPG (by those people and SNT) has an ending... WITH credits!

I tried to make a repro of Plants Vs Zombies, but the game doesn't boot. Guess i'm gonna have to check if there's some kind of problem with an hexa editor.

The Angry Birds game is pretty lame, to agree with you guys. Seems as if the structure will not fall over/collapse unless you launch a bird in a specific way and kill a particular pig. Maybe on SNES an Angry Birds game could work since it allows for heavy sprite rotation (though it'd probably cause tremendous slowdown) but it was never meant for NES.

However, Maxzhou88 does have a rather interesting collection of Famicom pirates. One that caught my eye while going to download the Angry Birds rom was this one with a pink caveman wielding a wooden club.
