Rockman 8, a hack?
« on: April 22, 2012, 07:54:29 PM »
just wondering about this one. it says all over the wiki that Rockman 8 is a hack of Rockman World 3, is there any proof of that? they don't seem to have all that much in common. i mean if it was a hack maybe it would have been playable, at least.

The sound engine doesn't even sound similar. I think Rockman 8's audio is more akin to those Sonic Gameboy pirates. Someone prove me wrong! Then again, there must be a different Rockman 8 on Gameboy before I re-check the Wiki...

I'm not sure about what's in the actual ROM to connect it with (such as leftover data from RW3), but it does borrow a lot of stuff from that game (enemies, graphics, robot master sprites, etc.)  They might've based the game off of it, then just did their own *horrible* thing.  Bootleggers aren't known for the most sensible design choices...

I'm more inclined to believe they just stole a bunch of graphics. I don't think even Yong Yong would go to the trouble of extensively hacking a game just to make it a thousand times worse than the original... I mean it'd be far less effort just to leave most of it alone, and they aren't exactly known for expending unnecessary effort on these things.

Rockman 8 does contain a lot of stuff from Megaman III (Rockman World 3) such as the Robot Masters and enemies from it. This gave many people the impression that it is a heavily hacked version of said game but, is there really any proof on that? If so, I and everyone else would be interested.

To go slightly off topic, I don't get why people think  :somari: is a hack of Sonic for the genesis, but I guess we'll leave that for an NES topic.
