That infamous GBA platformer again...
« on: December 16, 2011, 12:29:24 AM »
If you've seen the videos of Crash Bandicoot IV, Rayman IV, or Digimon Adventure, you already know what awaits in... Spider-Man 3 (Russian Version)!

Edit: And I see from the comments that Barver already discovered this a month ago, but hey, it's news to me. :P

I think that with these GBA games, Sintax (I think that's who made these games) decided to use some generic platformer engine, reuse the same music and sound effects in practically all of them, add some stolen graphics and make some generic levels. <_<

And holy balls, this game looks bad.  I'd rather have Pokemon Pinball's music playing instead of that crap.

Wow....this is just desperate for money....
Sintax keeps using the same music, engine, sounds, etc in their GBA games.
Can't they just atleast use different music? It almost makes me want cry because of how much they've overused this engine.

Yeah, classic Sintax recycling - Sintax probably didn't even have the talent to develop another GBA engine at that point, supposedly Vast Fame helped them out with Digimon (hence the music from Soul Falchion) and then Sintax just recycled the same game a few times.

I love how they didn't even manage to fix the bugs in any of these games. And not little ones, but blatant ones, like the wrong music starting when you stomp on an defeat a particular enemy. Or the music entirely stopping once a certain other enemy appears on screen. Or the complete lack of gravitational pull while firing one's weapon.

Edited to add: Though I'm not sure about that-- they might have fixed the music bugs one at a time. At least given what I've seen in the video clips (not having been able to find any of these particular bootlegs myself):

Broken title musicMusic stops with enemyMusic changes w/ enemy defeat
Digimon AdventureYesYesYes
Spider-Man 3-YesYes
Crash Bandicoot IV--Yes
Sonic 3: Fighter Sonic--Yes
Rayman IV---

Edit #2: Corrected 'stomp' to 'defeat', because obviously the music changes when the enemy is fired at in Digimon Adventure. D'oh.

Edit 7-Feb-2012: Added Fighter Sonic.

Heh, I forgot about that table. Judging by that, I think Fighter Sonic (that's what it says on the title screen) came out at about the same time as Rayman IV.

Hm. Fighter Sonic does have the 'music changes on enemy defeat' bug (it shows up in Lorenzo's first video of the game). Though for all I know, Rayman IV has the same bug, and the player just didn't manage to trigger it...

BUMP sorry, but new edition I found on YouTube, known as Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped (like the PS1 title) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwJEK7d4O3I
It's basically Crash IV, but with a different sprite of crash, different levels, and different title screen. :P

But alas, eventually I'm going to have to go toe-to-toe with it myself.

Especially as I plan to make an article on the engine in the Wiki, due to it being so damn frequent. x3

The level layout is clearly exactly the same as the first level in the Digimon Adventure pirate too. So boring :P

I cannot help but giggle at Crash's awkward walking animation.
