Dip switches in pirate carts
« on: September 03, 2011, 12:00:19 PM »
I have several Famicom carts and multicarts with what it seems to be dip switches: little silver-colored squares in the PCB, normally in the upper left part of it. Some, like my 76-in-1 Funtime cart have as many as 9 of them I think, while other might have 2 of these things in the left and 2 more in the right. Am I right? Are these really dip switches? And is there any way of manipulating them? How can someone change the position of these to modify the game list of the cart?
I'm really interested on this but I haven't been able to gather much information about these damn switches, so anything you guys could tell me, it would be greatly appreciated  :D

From what I've noticed, multicarts and games published by JY Company (the Hummer Team ones, at least) have DIP switches in them. I know one variation of the 42-in-1 multicart has one to switch between menus, and a lot of those newer multis (probably the YH ones, although I'm not sure) have them as well.

Yes, but most dip switches are not meant to be used by the users, so how do you change the position of them? :/

I think you have to solder a connection between two of them or something like that. I *think*.

Hey Taizou, if you were a pcb that came out of it's cart and sees a whole new world, I think you would definitely be surprised. :P (And scared to shit of what will happen to you)

Well if the design is anything to go by, it looks just like a YH cart I own (which broke when I got it :P ) that has 6 games on it. Might be good for soldering practice, but that's about it.

I had to take it apart from its cart anyways. The building is so cheap that the PCB often would get off its place and I couldn't introduce it correctly on my Famicom :/

That way, if it breaks then you're not missing much. /:)

Lucky me, I have a few of of them :D I would never think they would serve any purpose other than wasting space, so yay :P
