Jungletac GBA ROMs Found
« on: August 08, 2011, 12:32:48 PM »
Thought they were running on proprietary hardware? I guess not! I found the roms in .JGC format on my Dingoo A320, which could only be played on the proprietary GBA emulator. Then I found them on a chinese website in .GBA format! I tested them in VisualBoyAdvance, and they work! The games included are:

Bubble Blaster
Bump Bomb
Fire Fighter
Hero Legend
Hide and Seek
Hot Drop
Jewel Fever 2
Jewel Master
Manic Troll
Pinball Fish
Pop Ball
Rapid Stream
Rolling Cube
Squirrel Bobble
Super Move Quest
Tiger Rescue

And without farther stalling, Here's the download link!  cool:

I don't normally use Megaupload, but Mediafire is being stupid and hangs my computer whenever I upload something.
Megaupload be dead

I sure hope Brydo sees this for Pirate Showcase!

So the 16-bit JungleTac (and possibly other companies) games are really just GBA ROMs? Well that'd make them easier to dump, at least.

nah, Jungletac's usual 16-bit hardware is Sunplus something. sometimes VT168 too. They made GBA ports of a few of their games for some reason, I don't think they were ever released on cart but they were included with the Dingoo and they put a few up for download on their old website (but the links were broken by the time I got there)

anyway nice find! :D These arent the ones that were on Jungletac's site so I guess someone hacked the Dingoo roms into standard GBA format.

Observations so far:
- Although the code is obviously rewritten for GBA, these are definitely the same games that appear on the Zone 60 and such.
- The music, in games that have it, loops badly. This is especially noticeable in Jewel Master.
- "Manic Troll", aside from being a hilarious name, stars someone who appears to be Dora the Explorer. What trolls have to do with this is a mystery. (Maybe like "trolling" as in fishing?)
- If you lose in Rapid Stream, you get a big "GOME OVER". Add "game" to the increasingly large list of basic English words that Chinese developers can't spell.
- Jewel Master always uses the same seed for its randomizer.

Rolling Cube seems to have been more or less cloned exactly (with different graphics) by Senca for one of the games on the Zone Interactive/Family Sports 41 in 1.. but then theres definitely a connection between them and Jungletac.
I quite like that game actually. anyone know if it's a ripoff of something else?

(Maybe like "trolling" as in fishing?)[/quote]I'm pretty sure that the title refers to JungleTac's staff, judging by the quality of these games. :P It's also a rebranded version of one of the Zone 60 games if I remember correctly.

A couple of things I noticed:
- With Squirrel Bobble, they were too lazy to find the proper voice samples so they just recorded them off a TV by the sound of things. :P
- The enemies in Hero Legend are stolen from another game, but I can't remember which one.
- Pinball Fish's background has some really bad anti-aliasing.

Squirrel Bobble is basically the licensed Puzzle Bobble port they made for the VG Pocket Caplet, they just changed the Bub & Bob sprites and the background.. the samples are really weird in that version, they kind of skip. and the music switches from a sampled first few notes to playing the rest of the song in MIDI - they obviously couldn't figure out how to rip the "READY.. GO!" sample from the original so they just recorded it from the game with the first bit of the music playing. Which is still there in Squirrel Bobble, they just removed the rest.

Squirrel bobble has background music, but this version of the ROM doesn't play it.
As far as the Pinball Fish graphics go, that's an emulation problem, as it renders just fine on the A320. The same goes for Hide and Seek and Squirrel Bobble.

Thanks Cheetahmen and Taizou, it's working now. Turns out the copy of VBA I was using was ludicrously outdated!
But anyways, The background in Pinball Fish looks like what happens when a n00b in Game Maker leaves the transparency on.

If these games have actual endings, I can look at them, if you know what I mean. :P
