Ultra-cheap famicom games
« on: July 11, 2011, 05:26:55 AM »
I was browsing the net and came across these:

http://www.volumerates.com/cate/video-games-fc

What do you think? There are some interesting pirate originals/ports there - has anyone used this site or bought similar cartridges?

Funnily enough, I actually bought a multicart off there a couple of days ago (the one with Recca on it, in case you're wondering). I'd say it's a good deal myself (well, the ones that boast more than 7 games are probably barely worth $3 in my opinion but still), it's a lot better than those pricks on eBay who sell early NES multicarts for upwards of $50.

They're on Famicom World fielding people for games they should try to get for their site, and the first result was just more boring multicarts :x They don't have much I'd care for right now, but they might get some Waixing or Nanjing FC games if they follow some of the requests I've seen.

I agree with Cheetahmen; you've got to realize that you're not getting a steal, you're getting what you pay for. They can turn a profit selling it at less than $1USD so....

I own some of these. Extremely cheap plastic, tiny globtop PCB, games may not function correctly on anything but clone hardware or may not function at all, plus you can expect to wait 3-5 weeks on your order to arrive. I'm not knocking the site as a whole, I've ordered tons of YONG YONG from them over the years.

I do look forward to the "ebay pricks" (couldn't have said it better myself) trying to flip these for big bucks.

Edit... just noticed this site's word filter after rereading my post. LOL

Wow, Ive never actually come accross a Chinese famicom site that is so... Direct! This an amazing post, for me.. so far the only ones I've ever seen on sale have been Ebay prickified. I just think it's hilarious that anyone ever even considers paying that much for an "obscure" game. Those who do are clearly insane, what with the modern miracle of emulation. (Edit: this is coming from the guy who's considering flying to a foriegn location just to get pirated games.... Oh well :P)

..Though, I couldnt imagne anyone selling Kart Fighter or World Heroes 2 for cheap.. Or even selling them at all if they're a collector.

Where are you considering flying to for pirates? :P

I doubt this site is going to be getting single carts(or the original ones at that) of anything like SMW or Somari, since it appears their only source is places selling cheap multis in bulk, or any recent chinese YONG YONG sold in bulk.

Edit: I've had to edit my posts so often because of the word filter. It's making me realize just how often I say YONG YONG or YONG YONG when posting anything. FUCK <------------ has no censor   Might work to make it so that word gets replaced with "PIRATE" or something.

Hmm... Im looking at a multi with Mortal Kombat 4/5 and 2 other turds, and another multi with Street Fighter 56p. I have a fear of Cony.. But if its the Super Fighter III 56p version... That would be awesome. And if thats the MK4 that's ex-Hummer, that would be awesome too.

EDIT: I was thinking of going to Russia :) All those old Dendy videos show exactly where to get the games, Ill just have to do a bit of hunting. But that's over a year off, if it ever does happen. I doubt my pirate-fanaticism will die by then, since I've basically always been into it.
I just completed my order :) $30.60 in total. One PS3 Looking famicom, and 3 of the Four-in-ones.. They were listed as

-4-in-1 8-bit Home Game Cartridge (ISLANDER/MORTAL COMBAT 4/MORTAL COMBAT 5/SPIDERMAN)
-(Aladdin 3/Mortal Combat 4/Mortal Combat 5/Super Contra 2)
-(DOUBLE DRAGON 2/STREET FIGHTER 56P/NINJA GAIDEN 2/CONTRA 2)
-Back to the Good Old Time Classic 8-Bit Famicom Video Game Console with 2 Controllers

Cant wait to see this.. Lmao.

A word (or sentence, rather) of warning; according to the folk on Famicom World the carts don't work properly on a real Famicom and require a Famiclone for whatever reason. Also, Faceplant, according to the bloke from VR the Famiclones are NTSC (hence why I'd consider ordering one because all of mine are PAL apart from the Cyber Arcade Center I have) so you might want to check just to make sure that your TV is capable of an NTSC signal.

BTW, has anyone else noticed that the cartridge designs are ripped off from Jaleco's later Famicom carts?

Although the TV I use is PAL, I have plenty of PAL famiclones so aren't buying another - hopefully the games will work on at least one of them.

I checked it out, and thankfully it is NTSC compatible. And yeah.. Looks like they have that same little slip-on thing for the bottom of the cart, which is interesting.

Im hoping the cartridges I bought will also work with the Famiclone they're providing  .. I got the 2nd most expensive one, whish was still really cheap. Hope it works enough to at least function right, though Im sure there will be sound oddities.

I don't find the sound innacuracies to be much of an issue, I'm more concerned with PAL slowdown myself. I'm not buying one of those clones unless I know it's NTSC. I have a Famicom that's apparently capable of both (although the PAL mode doesn't seem to work) but some pirate carts don't work on it and all of the clones I have with cartridge slots are PAL. :\

Also, those carts should work if you have a Famiclone. :)
