2011 Super HiK 105-in-1 Turbo Edition
« on: June 04, 2011, 05:33:32 PM »
I was reluctant putting this up, but I figured that I put a fair bit of effort into this so I might as well.

Link

A hacked version of that Korean 105-in-1 that came with the VT package or whatever it's called. The menu's been translated to English, the awful music's been replaced and some of the games are different, just because.

BTW, I forgot to mention a couple of points. First off, while the file is 8MB just like the original, I've found that it can actually be expanded to 16MB, which of course would allow for a lot more games. Second off, as far as I can tell the multi can support games up to 768KB (512 of which is PRG) although the only game that size I know actually works is Kirby's Adventure. And third, I can't figure out how to get UNROM games to work. As far as I can tell, the games need both PRG and CHR ROM to work on this thing, but UNROM only has the former.

I beg you pardon for bumping this, but I have to say this: isn't the menu music a rendition of Edwyn Collins' "A girl like you"? XD

oh YONG YONG! YES that's it! thank you! :D
It was in this Columns clone (by Shenzhen Nanjing maybe) on a bunch of 16-bit consoles, I first heard it back in December and I knew it was ripped off from somewhere but I never could remember what the hell it was.

YES. That is totally what the song is!

I knew it was something I'd heard quite a bit on an adult-alternative station in the mid-'90s, but couldn't remember what it was for the life of me. And humming it into SoundHound didn't help. :D

XD
Kind of wish you mentioned that when I showed those minigames off that Wii clone with Columns on it, but thanks anyway. :thumb: Mind you, I don't think you were actually on the forum at the time.

(Incidentally, consider yourself lucky I could be arsed to hack the music in the first place :ninja: )

I just realized something else completely random.

The tune from Nanjing's Columns game is, of course, ripping off Edwyn Collins. Their memory game, meanwhile, uses Phil Collins' "Another Day In Paradise".

This is just too strange to be a coincidence.

This is just too strange to be a coincidence.
Maybe they were watching Phil Collins on Youtube (After all, this came out after the Wii) and every artist with the surname Collins appeared in the recommendations so Nanjing thought "fuck it, we might as well rip them off as well." OK maybe not, but that would be quite funny if it was true.

Edit: Because I'm bored, I decided to consolidate all of the stuff they ripped off into one list: (Well, all of the stuff I'm aware of at least)
Phil Collins - Another Day in Paradise
Whatever that Edwyn Collins song is
Pocket Monsters theme
Jingle Bells (I guess that's public domain, but whatever)
The song from Fly War (No idea what it is but it sounds too good to be original, quite frankly)
Puzzle Bobble
Columns
King of Fighters
Xiao Ma Li
Tapper
Sokoban
The Fire game off Game & Watch Gallery Advance
Tengen Tetris
Back to the Future Part III (Mega Drive game)
Road Fighter
Bomberman
Arkanoid
Space Invaders
That Rascal game I forget the name of
Metal Slug sprites
Adventure Island sprites
Pokémon sprites (Ruby & Sapphire, if I remember correctly)
Mr. Driller graphics

Oh, and Metallica's Am I Evil off the Exciting Boxing game, if you count the ones which aren't minigames.
