DIP Switches in NES/Famicom games
« on: July 16, 2017, 12:36:27 PM »
I have compiled a list of games by Cony and J.Y. Company that alter their title screens depending on the DIP switch/jumper settings. Both companies always seem to have two switches on each cartridges, but most games only test one of them. This may be old news to some of you, but for me, I was surprised at least in the case of some games, especially since not all emulators support DIP switches (either by menu or by soft reset) for all mappers.

DIP Switches in NES/Famicom games
« Reply #1 on: July 16, 2017, 02:14:25 PM »
I'm assuming the King of Fighters 96 DIP is not doing anything because the data/code was removed when they sold the game to Ka Sheng (J.Y. cancelled the title for, according to H. Cheng, budget issues so they sold it to Ka Sheng slightly cut-down (it's still a 6Mb game, it would have been about 8Mb or more with all the content they removed…).

Also you're missing the other Aladdin rom that has a DIP to access Popeye 2. Aladdin III - Popeye II.

While I can't confirm, but there might be more variants but undumped? I could eventually dump my Aladdins to make sure (JY-026, JY-027 notably?)

Aside, the C66C429B Donkey Kong Country - Jungle Book 2 in 1 is a hack, which I believe was made by JP Ronny. So it shouldn't be included on the list.

I have added some more carts for completeness' sake. I suppose all of these settings are known, and I found none of them revealing any new or exciting game versions, unfortunately.
