Unfortunately I was not able to get the game to play on VirtuaNES. Is there any other emulator that might work with it, or do you think the ROM is just broken?

VirtuaNES already long ago not updating.

@iniche Thanks for the info and recommendation. I ended up buying a Kazzo recently. It was cheap enough. And it seemed like a fun and rewarding project. bunnyboy, of RetroUSB, wrote this about it:

"I didn't bother with copy protection, but its a custom mapper so Retrode won't work without some reprogramming. The ROM is a standard flash chip so you can dump it with a programmer after transplanting it to an adapter board."
 
Then I found this Kazzo tut at NeoGAF: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=72806661

But no successful dump for me yet. No dump of any kind. Seems I need to know the mapper. I might email cah4e3 back. He seemed confident that he could successfully dump it.
