Street Fighter II on Famicom
« on: February 07, 2015, 08:08:57 AM »
I can't even remember where I picked this up. Car boot sale I think. Just thought it was worth sharing as I've never seen SF2 ported to Fami before.
Anyone know anything about it?

There's been like several bootleg ports of Street Fighter II to the NES but that cartridge art doesn't look familiar at all...

There's many of them, starting with the correctly-titled Street Fighter II: The World Warrior by Hummer Team. http://bootleggames.wikia.com/wiki/Street_Fighter_II:_The_World_Warrior
It's hard to say which one it is, considering how many there are. Your best bet is to play the game and see what the title screen says.

I'll play it later and try to get a screenshot of whats on it. If my Retron5 doesn't like it I'll set up one of my many Famiclones :)
The reason I find it so curious is it doesn't seem to be the usual cheap blob of resin on a PCB. The case is missing a clip so I can open it easily, and it's all proper chips inside.
Here's a quick pic of it's guts.

Have you been able to get a screenshot of the game by any chance?

Best I could do was taking a photo of the TV. Had to try a few clones before I found one that would play it without corrupting. But here they are....

As you can see the menu lists it as "Master Fighter", and the game has no title screen as such.

That's definitely a hack of the Street Fighter II port I linked to. So, are you saying that there's no title screen?

So, after intro the game just jumps to character select screen?

Yeah. You get a shot of the guys in front of the building, then it scrolls up the building. Pressing start takes you to the character select screen.
Maybe I'll let it scroll all the way up and see, but surely pressing start should just skip the intro and go to the title screen if there is one.

Yeah, this sounds like a variation of an already existing bootleg game except on a multicart: http://bootleggames.wikia.com/wiki/Street_Fighter_II:_The_World_Warrior

So the multicart makers stole a bootleg, removed the title screen and renamed it to 'Master Fighter II'.
Subtle lol.

Kind of, "Master Fighter II" is just a renamed Street Fighter II generally to avoid copyright problems in certain countries. This version generally does get pirated though with altered copyrights.

Also they changed Mario's Name to SOMARI, I Was poking some roms, and i have found a alternative title, just called ''MARIO''
I think they did that to avoid the ''evil copyrights'' ;)
