Mega Drive/Genesis dumps / Mulan (Unl) ROM - fully patched
« on: July 18, 2012, 12:53:02 PM »
This game is actually fun.  Definitely one of the better Genesis pirate games out there.  Thanks for dumping a working version of it.

Neat! I'm liking this recent trend of NES games ported to the Genesis.

Cool stuff man, much appreciated as always.  Just need a working version of Mulan now.

Mega Drive/Genesis / Magic Girl

Anyone know if the rom for Magic Girl that's floating around out there (ie: in GoodGen 3) works on real hardware, or does it have some sort of copy protection?  I don't have an Everdrive yet, so I can't test it myself.  Thanks in advance.

Awesome! Thanks for the vid.

Now the next question is, can anyone dump this game in such a way that sound isn't lost?

Mega Drive/Genesis / Link Dragon

None of the roms for Link Dragon that I've tried seem to have sound.  Although there is a sound test option in the menu, however the entire game seems to be silent... Does anyone have a version of this rom that plays actual sounds, does the original cart?  Or is this game just broken/unfinished?

Mega Drive/Genesis / A Bug's Life

I don't know about the SNES version, that port is so broken I never made it past the first level lol.  Though given how bad the controls are I don't think it's possible to even get that far.  The Sega version is WAAAAAY better.  And with with the jump codes it's actually beatable.  That game has a surprisingly well made ending.  I'm gonna see about hacking the jump code into the rom.  The only thing that bugs me about it is how it screws up the jump animation a bit.

My cart has the banking reworked, it's based on a patched ROM. I'll dump it soon.
Woohoo! This game actually seems pretty good.

Well, a very helpful dude over at Sega-16 created some Game Genie cheats for this game that make you jump higher, thus making the game a lot more playable.  The jumping animation gets a little screwed up, but at least the game can actually be enjoyed all the way through now.  Here are the codes:

WCYA-CACW
Jump much higher while standing still

WCZA-CAE0
Jump much higher while running.

Note that the first code will glitch the first level, you'll just fall through the floor at a certain point.  So just use the second code.  There's really no need to have both of them enabled anyway.

Mega Drive/Genesis / Printable covers for pirate games!

Just for fun. I hope that someone eventually hacks this thing to fix the jumping because it would otherwise be a decent game.

So, a lot of the pirate games are complete unfixable/unplayabe crap.  But then there are some games out there that are so close to being decent (or even great) that it's almost painful to see them brought down by some small issue.  It seems like quite a few games out there could be fixed with some minor hacking.  Let's see if we can make a list.

Here's a few that I can think of now.

A Bug's Life - Genesis - This game would be alright if the damn jumping/running worked better.  I wonder if it would be possible to write a Game Genie code to apply to the rom or somehow hack the thing to make the jumping better.  Hell, even if you could just make him jump higher this game would be better.

Tiny Toon Adventures 3 - Genesis - This game is basically good, it just really bugs the hell out of me how that rabbit doesn't have any legs in the title screen.  That and the very Engrish intro back story.

X-Men VS Streetfighter - SNES - Iceman flickering out during kicks.  Yeah this game isn't the best, but it's relatively bug free except for that one very noticeable animation glitch.

Hacker Center / Title screen hack of Tiny Toon Adventure 3?
« on: February 27, 2012, 02:28:50 AM »
I was thinking about just changing the title screen.  Would that affect any of the gameplay mechanics or sprites or any of that?  The Russian title screen hacks (and there are many) change only the title screen of a game with seemingly no effects on gameplay.  They might be done by expert hackers, but judging by the lack of other changes to the ROMs I would assume the opposite.

Man the SNES version of Bug's Life sucks, the best thing about the Genesis one was the voice overs for when you kill the enemies.  They totally took that out in the SNES release.

Which jump would that be? I never played either version beyond about 3 minutes into the first level so I don't know a whole lot about the game.

Would you happen to have a savestate for it that's at the jump?
Here's a screenshot of the jump in the MD/Genesis version.

I think I still have a save state of it, I'll check later tonight, if I have it, I'll upload so you can check out and rage it too.
