Game Boy dumps / Re: Ankos' Games

Sintax did a port of Super Mario Bros for the GBC. It went by multiple titles and got a rerelease by NGCA with the ID SM056 stamped on the board (at least on my copy). I don't think the NGCA version has been dumped yet, so I'm posting it here

I remember seeing VT03 versions of those in the discord. I don't those are dumped yet though

Oh, and here is the ROM for "Magic Monkey". I did not dump this one and I'm not sure who to credit since it was dumped many years ago. I'm just re-posting it in case people have difficulty finding it later

Game Boy / Cheat Codes
« on: January 14, 2023, 03:39:44 PM »
A while ago I was playing around with cheat codes in VBA-M and was able to make a couple of useful codes. A long time ago a partially working dump of Gowin's Journey to the West began to circulate. To my knowledge it is the only dump of the game online, and is often labeled as "Magic Monkey". The thing is, upon loading the first real level you die instantly.

This code lets you live: 010092C5

You'll still run into tons of issues if you choose to continue playing, but you'll at least get to play through a level or two

This code is a level select code. Replace the X with what level you want: 010X48C5

Activating this code while playing a level may change how that level plays

Feel free to share any cheat codes you make for unlicensed Gameboy games here

English copies come in square boxes, while Taiwanese ones come in rectangle boxes. The sticker on the cart is also different

You dumped the Taiwanese version of Super Donkey Kong 5 right? Your dump matches taizou's dump of the English cart, confirming that Makon just changed the packaging for the English release. If your Zook 2 cart has the same version of the game that mine does, then it should be supported in hhugboy (if you can get a consistent dump out of it)

A few of those I think are mine. Also, why did you put King of Fighters R2 as Gamtec and Dragon Ball Final Bout as SKOB? They're both SKOB titles and use the same engine

I shipped these out to be dumped a while ago. I shared them on BGC Discord but did not post them here. Here is a link to that discord message if you are curious

Edit: Added the files directly. Leaving up the discord link if you are curious about context

Oh, and here are some pictures of its internals
Edit: Added ROM for Dictionary. Looks like this machine is getting support in MAME :D

Other dumps / Chess King (Watara Supervision Lookalike)

A while ago I shipped out a handheld I bought to get its internal ROM dumped. It came with a cartridge as well, though the individual(s) I sent it to have not been able to dump that yet. The handheld was broken at the time I got it, so I don't really know how it is supposed to work. Anyways, here is the ROM and some pictures of the machine. It closely resembles a Watara Supervision. I posted this stuff on the BGC Discord earlier, but have decided to post it here as well

I was looking through my stuff and found a Makon multi that works in hhugboy. It does not have anything on it that wasn't already dumped on it. I mostly care about new games getting dumped but since this was a pretty easy one to preserve I figured I'd post it

Here are the untrimmed ROMs for Magic Ball and Prince Yeh Rude. These cannot be played in emulators, so I am just uploading these for completion sake. If you attempts to open the untrimmed Magic Ball ROM an intro splash screen appears

These are the carts I dumped the Gowin games from earlier. The two on the right are the usual Gowin releases in green shells. Gowin games often were re-released with different looking carts and boxes. Their earliest releases date back to the early 90s with their final releases dating to the early 2000s. These appear to be releases closer to the middle of that range, though it is hard to put an exact year on these without having the box. The leftmost cart is the pre-Gowin release of Losing Trip by Songtly and Jumbo, Top Secret. From what I can gather these were packed in with a Gameboy clone manufactured by Songtly. Other Gowin titles were released by other Gameboy clone manufacturers but they all used the same type of shell this one used

These are the Vast Fame games I posted earlier. The Telefang hack is on the left while the other two are Kongfeng carts. Kongfeng in addition to using multiple types of copy protection also used multiple types of circuit boards for many of their games. Fortunately they often used transparent plastic, so if you want a specific version of a Kongfeng release you don't always have to crack open the cart to see if you got the right one
