Announcements & News / Make the button banner for PGC!
« on: March 13, 2013, 12:22:17 PM »
Hey,

It has been decided that we'll try to make some partner websites. But to accomplish this, we need some button image to give to our partners.

The width and height of the button should be 88x31, the standard "small button" size (but feel free to make extra sizes if you want).

We'd greatly appreciate if you could help us have one. It'd be helpful to the community.

Few examples of simple ones:

An animated one:

what we do not want:
-Animated stuff that is too long/too many animation. People usually loose track of what they are looking with such thing.
-Really dull pictures.

Once you've made one, you can submit it to me by PM. After some time, we will make a poll with all sent picture (except rejected ones because they were breaking the rules too much). The one with most vote *will* (unless some massive fake voting happens  :pandamad: ) become the forum banner.

Announcements & News / 您好 / Hello
« on: June 20, 2012, 04:54:22 PM »
First of all, I'd like to thank a lot Barver and KingPepe. They were very helpful. Also a big thanks to PGC Team who sent us questions, ideas and helped to translate or make connection with other events (Taizou, AwesomePanda and others). Without their help, it could have not worked that good!

The title of this topic is in fact the first part of the message that I sent to Hummer Cheng.
Some people here discussed with him by emails with the help of a middleman/translator and here we are, sharing it to you.

As most of the message sent to us were in chinese, we had to translate it, to release it here, we cut most of the casual discussion and unrelated stuff only keep what was related to Famicom. The questions are asked in bulk because we discussed with him by email and eventually some questions were put with others so maybe the dates are not accurate in the email header. The page will be updated when we get more informations.

Hello ML X

Yes, I did those games. Why do you want to ask these questions? Are you working for a company or are you someone that plays video games? Where are you from?

1. When was Hummer Team formed?
2. How many members did you have?
3. How many games you could do at the same time? You seem to make them very quickly.
4. What happened to your team after 1998?
5. Before Hummer Team, did you work for any other company?

From: H. Cheng (****.***@******.com)

1. I created the team in 1992.
2. There were about 13 members working for Hummer Team.
3. We could work on 3 games at the same time but we mostly worked on 2.
4. I decided to make my team to work on other things that weren't related to the Famicom.
5. I've worked for Sachen, and Idea-Tek.

---
ML X:

1. When was JY Company paying you for the games?
2. Do you remember why King of Fighter 96 was not released by JY Company?
3. What was the hardest game to develop?
4. Why Final Fight 3 and Tiny Toon Adventures 6 had no original music?
5. What was the average development time for your games?

---
H. Cheng:

1. They paid me at the beginning.
2. JY didn't have enough money to afford 2 games ((Final Fight 3?)) so I sold it to KaSheng
3. It was Super Mario World. It took more than a year!!
4. Because I was game designer on Final Fight 3, I had no time to do music for the games.
5. Usually 4 months. Some games took longer, some less.

---
ML X:

1. Could you please tell me why Titenic was only released in 2003?
2. What was your main work?
3. What is exactly the 3-eyed sun in all your JY games?
4. Do you know who made Street Fighter III (Master Fighter VI' reuse data from it).
5. Was it hard to make 8 bit version of the musics?

---
H. Cheng:

1. I made it for KaSheng but they didn't want to release it because people had no more interest in Famicom.
2. I was a programmer, composer and game designer.
3. It is the logo of JY. JY manager made it himself.
4. A professor made Street Fighter III. I took the data and made a game using some of it.
5. It was challenging, sometimes I needed few weeks to make a good version of one music.

1. At Sachen, I worked on Colorful Dragon, Pipe 5, Mahjong Trap and 75 Bingo. At Idea-Tek, I only worked on Tennis.
2. Yes, I have made all of these games under Giant Sound.
3. Joyvan and Sachen merged and the boss of Joyvan created Idea-Tek.

1. Which came first? Street Fighter II or Master Fighter II? Also did Supertone do anything with this game, was it hard to make it?
2. Who is Yoko Soft?
3. Do you remember anything about Ge De Industry Co.?
4. Was Jing Ke Xin Zhuan the first game by Hummer Team?

---

From: H. Cheng (****.***@******.com)
Sent: Tue 08/05/11 9:24 PM

1. No, it was Yoko soft, a different company. Street Fighter II came first. Yes it was long to develop because we had to program the engine.
2. Yoko soft paid me to make Street Fighter II and Master Fighter IV.
3. Ge De was the boss's wife's older brother company and SuperTone owned ((Giant Sound)).
4. Yes.

And indeed, a HUGE thanks to Hummer Cheng for answering all these questions!

EDIT from KingPepe: Post was fixed as the spoiler tags don't work anymore.

Pirated Work / Fonts
« on: September 06, 2011, 04:33:27 PM »
Recently had fun reproducing 2 fonts.
1st is a font from Sachen, the one used in World of Card Game. Most of the special characters were designed by me, as well with: G, P, Q, V, W, X, Z (they are not in the game code at all)
http://fontstruct.com/fontstructions/show/sachen
Note: The font must be used with Shift/Shift lock.

2nd is the Tiny Toon Adventures 6 font (Similar to Somari and KF) without shading (I don't know how to add shading to the font directly).
http://fontstruct.com/fontstructions/show/somari_font
Note: The font must be used in lower case only.

I'm not familiar with megadrive pirates but I guess some good box pictures is still good to show :)

1993-1999 / Beta of Titenic on 15in1 ?
« on: May 01, 2011, 05:33:10 AM »
So I recently bought a Game Genie and I told SMWHacker (he was really interested to hack it), after about one hour of searching for the title screen (adresses are likely moved further), he decided to try to make the code to summon enemies in the game, it worked and I tryed (with his help) almost all values that are strange in HL, we flound 3 unused enemies and more floating unused stuff (that goes with water).

The first one was a FF3 like enemy trowing bombs at the character, it is half working. You must hit him once before the bombs are exploding and I think the bombs only have a very small hitbox that appear only for about 1 or 2 frames.

(The game is being played on a PAL NES, so the picture is streched and colors are a bit different)

The next one is a gunner, he looks like a spy or some guard, 2 palettes exists like the 1st one.
no picture at the moment

And now is the oddest enemy ever seen in a pirate game I think:
It's some kind of lizard that jumps around and spins at the same times (once it starts, it never stops). If it is summoned on the ground, you can see it walking then starting to spin and starting to jumps. It is almost finished, it can hit me but I can't. I think it is fully animated, maybe it was supposed to land after a while, or I don't know.
video comming later (I'll do one showing those 3 enemies and maybe 2 unused floating stuff)

Unrelated:
Another version of Tetris exists in South Korea !

1984-1992 / Hummer Team is a lot older than what we think
« on: February 28, 2011, 06:42:37 PM »
Few minutes ago, I was doing the monthly search with Jing Ke Xin Zhuan (荊軻新傳) on google and other sites to find some more infos on it. I landed on a good pic of the box with something quite important to point out:

See that little thing on bottom right ? Wait, doesn't that read HUMMER TEAM ?

So the whole thing about Gouder Co. and Supertone may be names of the publishers, not the developers. And the name Hummer Team was used since 1992 (and probably while they were still with Computer & Entertainment). Result: BGW need a complete edit of Someri and Hummer Team page. I guess before five people start to do that whole thing we should talk about this a bit more since I think it's strange how they didn't used the name from 1992 till 1995.

Also the back:

If anyone could translate the text on bottom left...

Hacker Center / Jing Ke Xin Zhuan cheats
« on: February 13, 2011, 02:28:29 PM »
All these codes are from me, please give credits.

As the game is hard and is only in chinese, here's few codes to help you during the playtrhough:

Infinite life:
0477; FF

Infinite cash:
0470; FF

Stat under the health (?):
047B; FF

Stat on top of your health (?):
0473; 37 (cannot go higher than 55)

Kill the enemies in one hit each:
0565; 00 (first)
0567; 00 (second)
0669; 00 (third)

Free movement on X axis:
0049; XX
01 for right, 02 for left. The enemies when you are out of bounds can remove up to 214hp, I suggest using the Infinite health code and the kill enemies with one hit. To controll yourself again, deactivate the code.

Random codes where you can mess up with Jing Ke. These codes are fail, I tryed to make them but they don't work well...
Spoiler: click to toggle

FREE MOVEMENT !
005A; FF

Now you can go EVERYWHERE and walk on EVERYTHING !
It seems the first town doesn't like free movement, add 0051 01 to the free movement when you walk in that town. Deactivate it when you leave it.
Remove triangle:
0719; FF
