BootlegGames Wiki / Help creating new game system category
« on: May 16, 2013, 07:53:16 PM »
I'm wiki handicapped so forgive my ignorance.

Recently started on an entry for Jang Pung II, which exists on both SMS and GG. I put Game Gear as one of the categories on it, and apparently it started a page for GG games http://bootleggames.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Game_Gear_games

'Course that one is not a "real" category page, I guess it's what's automatically generated. I didn't notice an edit button, only a create.

Then the "games by console" page http://bootleggames.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Games_by_console doesn't show the GG category.

Could anyone that gets a chance see if they can get both of those lined out? I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Mega Drive/Genesis / Russian Plants vs Zombies

Wow, that's... interesting to say the least.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all the carts of Angry Birds that are floating around based on a demo version that's only a few levels long?

I've seen this around also. Although I'm not interested in it enough to purchase the cart, I'd like to know who the group is behind it's development.

Sorry, I should have clarified, I was talking about Thunderbolt 2.

This was dumped a few months ago from Parodius Duh!'s cart but not distributed since the ROM had copy protection.

If you're reading this and still have it, send it to me if you are still interested in throwing it out in the wild.

Since that Sonic cart is just the Famicom game running PockerNES, you should be able to bring the menu up by hitting L & R together. I'd like to see if it had any credits or anything listed like some of the previous ones, or see what they've altered from the standard menu.

Whomever wrote/altered the version of PocketNES used on those carts had it set up to show two static screens then load the ROM. The older version used doesn't do that, and it doesn't have any credits in the options.

It's probably the most playable out of all the unlicensed fighters on MD, and it's waaayyy better than any of the SNES stuff.

The original sprites are ripped from the Capcom arcade game Warriors of Fate. Glorysun edited some of them to resemble characters from the films. I'm not sure where the background elements are taken from, especially the digitized stuff.

That particular ROM was messed up by the manufacturer, for some reason that one doesn't work on clone hardware. That ROM was based on the one I dumped a while ago.

Usually it's the opposite, they only work on clone hardware. How they managed to goof that up I have no idea. It also won't work on an original console if you're using a Game Genie.

Mega Drive/Genesis dumps / MD Biohazard 3 - ROM
« on: April 23, 2013, 10:35:49 AM »
I don't know if it was due to whatever method they used to dump it, or maybe the cart was like that originally, but all the header information on this is blanked out. While that's insignificant to most, if you're trying to play this on real hardware with some flash carts or copiers, it will not boot and may throw the system into SMS mode. Putting "SEGA MEGA DRIVE" in the header makes it work fine.

I doubt the original cart was like that. All of the Glorysun games I've bothered to look at never even had the name changed in the header, much less anything else. I did notice that they used a patched version of the Body Count ROM. It was a PAL only game with a region lockout if you tried to play it on NTSC hardware, but that isn't present in Biohazard 3. It's probably giving them too much credit to say they patched it themselves.

Has anyone played this to any extent? I had never even played the original version so I can't draw any conclusions. Is there anything at all new other than the Glorysun splash screen and Biohazard 3 title screen?

Mega Drive/Genesis / Final Fantasy Cart

The only time I've ever seen this referenced as Shattered Stone has been other copies sold in the past by this seller, and like you mentioned it isn't mentioned anywhere on the packaging as such.

After browsing his other stuff, it dawned on me how lame it is when people scream UNRELEASED in their selling titles. What a trite, nonsensical description to use...  makes using L@@K dignified.

Finally after years of speculation, we can all be equally disappointed! Unsure of the dumper, but our good friend is hosting it on his site.

This, SWM64, now what's left?

That cart came from the dump no doubt as well. The game never came up anywhere practically, now you can do a ML search and find several in SFC carts.

The negative part of getting stuff dumped :x
All of those new unlicensed SFC carts are by WeLoveGame, who has posted on here before.
Besides the unlicensed titles, you'll also come across fan-translations and the occasional commercial bootleg (Dracula X).

No, not that Crash Bandicoot 4

Dumped from my cart a while back, looks to be based in the Famicom verison of Werewolf: The Last Warrior with a hacked title screen
and some copyright and logo screens glitched out. May have other changes, I didn't play it extensively. If I didn't already upload the box to the wiki under the PocketNES article I will soon.

The box uses "IV", but the title screen uses "4"

Here's the link

Course it's an incredibly bloated size because I'm too lazy to trim it down.

Are the Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter nes ports any good, considering there are basically no official fighting games for the system? The video I watched of Street Heroes had too much flickering, though, so that would  prevent me from enjoying them. Do the ports have the same problem?
Super Fighter III and it's variants are actually fun and quite playable for NES fighters, even by the higher standards of regular licensed Japanese developers.

World Heroes (not World Heroes 2, the shitty Cony fighter with all the weird characters) is pretty good too. It's the same exact engine and setup as Super Fighter III, only with Chinese martial artists using original sprites and artwork. I picked it up thinking it was the latter, and I was pleasantly surprised.

The original ports of MK1 and MK2 aren't horribly shitty, but they aren't as good as either of the above two mentioned games. If you can pick them up at a reasonable price they're worth it just as a conversation piece.
