Bootleg Bazaar / FS: MD/Gen Metal Sonic Overdrive
« on: March 17, 2012, 01:26:45 PM »
So I've got Metal Sonic Overdrive, a great fan-made version of Sonic the Hedgehog by Darkon. It has new levels, music, and graphics. Even has several selectable characters including Kirby and friggin' Somari (Mario)!. $15 USD, several copies available.

These cartridges are brand new. All the components are brand new; cart shell, PCB, ROM chip, nothing is taken from sacced carts or anything. They're tested in a US/JP model 1, a 32X, a Nomad, and some clone systems. The only hiccup is the cart shell. It's a universal notched style shell but it'sa few mm thicker than a normal USA cartridge, about the size of a 32x cart. I don't have a model 2 to try, but in a USA model 1 it's an EXTREMELY tight death grip fit. However, if you use a Game Genie, Action Replay, Mega Key, or any other type of passthrough cartridge it's no problem at all. It also seems to fine in most clone systems since they have oversized cart slots. The game itself works in every system I've tried, it's just the cart shell that's a problem.

If you're interested just drop me a line.

-Thanks!

Game Boy dumps / GBA The Lion King 3 ROM dump
« on: March 05, 2012, 09:18:29 AM »
So here's a dump of my Lion King 3 cart, a GBA game we've discussed a few times in the past. Its a single game PocketNES hack using a version of Super Game's Famicom port of The Lion King.

The game has the Super Game logo removed with a "Lion King III" logo in it's place. I don't know if that alteration was specifically for this GBA version, or if it exists in a Famicom cart.

Anyway, here's the link

Game Boy dumps / Super Tetris Delux - ROM (nothing new)
« on: February 27, 2012, 09:54:34 PM »
I was looking back over the Star Wars 3 thread from months ago and forgot about this.

Super Tetris Delux(e) is always mentioned on GBA piraters inventory lists as one number above Star Wars 3. Being that Star Wars 3 is crap, I was actually a bit surprised that isn't that bad of crap.

Here's the link to the author's homepage with the ROM. According to this the pirate cart isn't even from the final version.

Super Famicom/SNES dumps / ROMs - Aladdin 2000, A Bug's Life
« on: February 13, 2012, 10:32:25 PM »
Copy protections removed by our good friend D4S.

The archives contain both patched and unpatched versions of the games, as well as pictures of the carts and some other information.

Consider this like a Valentine's Day bouquet, only instead of roses it's an a bouquet of unplayable trash. Enjoy!

Pirated Game Museum / Blank page?
« on: February 04, 2012, 04:40:48 AM »
So somehow I got my bookmarks messed up on my netbook, and I noticed I had two for the site.

One, the main page works fine.

The other, http://piratedgamemuseum.wikia.com/wiki/Pirated_Game_Museum brings the site up but it's just a blank page.

I have no idea why I had both of them bookmarked, but if I remember correctly I was using that computer a while back and didn't remember the URL so I did a search for it, and that was what popped up. Maybe that page needs to be edited to mirror the homepage?

Mega Drive/Genesis / Just got Hercules... but not really
« on: February 02, 2012, 06:23:13 AM »
A friend of mine has been looking for Hercules 2 for Mega Drive for some time now. I bought a bunch of unlicensed games this past week and included in them was Hercules, which I bought for him.

Got it in today and the cart itself looks like it's been through hell. There's a chunk missing out of the plastic shell and the label is held on with clear packing tape. It wouldn't boot up at first and I went through about a half-dozen cotton swabs trying to get all the grime off the contacts.

Plug it in and notice a weird title screen...then I notice it's not Hercules 2 but Hercules 1, a hack of this game. I guess I cursed myself because I just happened to update the Hercules 2 entry on the wiki a week or so ago with the information regarding this oddball hack (and why Hercules 2 has a 2 on the end).

Has anyone ever played through this hack? Is anything different other than the title screen? And how in the world did anybody figure this would be an appropriate game to charade as a Hercules game?

Mega Drive/Genesis / Name that sound driver!
« on: January 27, 2012, 12:02:05 AM »
Barring Virtua Fighter VS Tekken 2 (or maybe not) did all the one-on-one fighters for Mega Drive use the SMPS engine? And this was the same as the High Seas Havoc sound driver, correct?

What about the platformers? (Mulan, Pocket Monster, Hercules 2, Lion King 2, etc)

And how exactly did the High Seas Havoc sound engine get to be the tool of choice?

Started tonight on working on a couple stub articles I was hoping to elaborate on in the coming weeks.

I accidentally made a category called "K", an after browsing the wiki I couldn't find a way to remove it.

Could a mod be a dear an remove it for me? And possibly educate my dumb ass on how to delete such errors in the future?

-thanks

1993-1999 / Help with Super Game Lion King variants
« on: January 14, 2012, 11:40:53 PM »
I was browsing around the Wiki trying to find some info on these PocketNES GBA pirates I've got that are packaged with one ROM as a standalone game. I identified Super Aladdin II as using the variant of Super Game's Aladdin (Super Aladdin version) and then started looking at this Lion King game.

The game itself is Super Game's Lion King. The only versions of it I have are labeled Mapper 4 and Mapper 128 in the file name, neither of which are this one. This one replaces the Super Game logo on startup with "The Lion King III", then reverts to the regular title screen. I haven't played the game long enough to see if it is a hack of the original mapper 4 or 128, but might sometime soon.

Is this ROM version unique to this pirate, or has the "Lion King III" version been dumped already?

Famicom/NES / Defeating NES lockouts
« on: December 11, 2011, 04:43:09 PM »
The story of Tengen's team going about defeating the NES lockout chip is well documented, and I've ran across a tidbit or two about Color Dream's efforts. I'm assuming whatever chip Color Dreams designed was used in the Sachen/Bunch Games titles that were produced for the NES. Seems like I ran across some info about Codemasters also.

What about other NES pirates? I don't own any to personally inspect them, so I'm curious how some of the these operate. Although the companies I mentioned above are about the only unlicensed NES cart manufacturers with legit games I've seen quite a few single game and multi-game cartridges in NES shells.

Surely these companies didn't use 60-72 pin converters in each cartridge, did they?

BootlegGames Wiki / Any chance of making a complete list entry?
« on: November 30, 2011, 04:02:20 AM »
How does everyone feel about making a page for each system that would list all the known (dumped or not) unlicensed games categorized by system?

I know that would be a daunting task for something like the Famicom, but both the 16-bit systems and some of the handhelds wouldn't be too bad. Maybe just have a table with name, release year, publisher/developer, and genre?

Or possibly make a page with a listing of hacks that aren't really original enough to warrant a single page entry, but just have some basic info regarding what game they're based on and the changes made to them?

Both of those ideas would be something that once the initial page was made, edits could be made that would take minimal effort to update with new information. Plus it might generate more visitors to the wiki by having it show up more often in search engine results.

Game Boy dumps / Super Aladdin II ROM
« on: November 12, 2011, 04:31:21 PM »
Here is Super Aladdin II which is a single-game PocketNES hack.

It's just like the other single-game hacks I've ran into, only it seems to be a later version since the options screen has some credits listed that aren't in the older versions. Or at least I'm assuming it's that way, maybe it's the other way around.

All of these I've seen are designed the same way; two zooming still pictures and after pressing start it boots to the game. Several of the options originally in PocketNES have been removed. Although the ROM itself doesn't look to be altered I'm interested to find out if there are any other credits or messages hidden in the PockeNES portion that has been altered.

LINK

While it's obvious this is a bloated dump since the ROM + emulator do not use nearly that amount of memory I was too lazy to go about trimming it.
