The Big Old Arcade / Worst ports of games to other consoles
« on: September 01, 2012, 03:05:20 AM »
The official port of The Lion King to the NES (Only released in Europe too, I believe). Undetailed, flat, dull and sometimes grotesque graphics, and only one half of the game and that which was left in there was cut down itself! Music wasn't too bad though.

I know there's probably alot worse out there, but that one was significant to me. Oh, but I've just remembered another one: Donald Duck in Maui Mallard for the Game Boy.

No...Just, no.

It's very clear from all this that I really need to put some time aside to play some more ROMs, I think I've fallen behind a little in the past year or so. xD

I guess I'll be off to the BootlegGames Wikia to find me some prospective games to play. :P
Eh, sadly most of the ROMs aren't dumped yet.  :pandaaway:

..Well some ARE dumped, but won't start up, so I'm trying to fix them. Either some are bad dumps, or just so glitchy (or have AP) they won't start in emulators.  :'(

But looking in the ROMs I find hidden stuff, like I found MakonSoftStudios in the SRAM of all the platformers by Yong Yong that have palettes. ^_^
Update: I sorta fixed Sonic 8 but with glitched cutscenes then freezes :P
Yeh, I was fascinated about that, it seems they might be still around developing mobile games if I recall correctly. Though I only found two apps myself and they didn't seem all too spectacular but, eh, mobile games. xD

I think depending on the emulator it doesn't show the full menu by default, you might have to reset a few times to see it.
Hmm, yeah. I'm getting that impression. Dip switches? What a pain.
Well, let's see how this goes. :)

Woah!    Okay, a fair few replies here and if I reply to all of 'em we're gunna have a fair bit of page-stretching going on. So I'll try and make my replies to all of you here in one cohesive post. :)

I suppose now that I think about it, I've been rather unfair of Waixing, they have made more then ONE good game I can admit and at least they're always interesting. Wizard of Oz was definitely a intriguing game (one that I plan to play again).

I admit I haven't played alot of games by these other companies, like Nice Code. But we can all agree: Yong Yong is a steaming pile of technoturds.

Thanks for all replying, guys! :D

I'd have to agree with you on that game over screen. Mind you, the whole game looks as though it was created by someone who played through the game once and tried to recreate it from memory.

The Lion King 5 is worse though.
This is very, VERY true. Simba suicide... *shudders*

I'd post a picture but...well, there's a limit and some people here might not want their childhoods destroyed in an instant. x3

Its here: http://cah4e3.shedevr.org.ru/dumping_2011.php
(the Super New Year Cart 15-in-1)
Huh, really? I downloaded a ROM kinda like this before, but it didn't have some of these games on it. Guess this must a) be a different batch of games and b) has Titenic on it in another name. I totally glided by this, thanks for the link! :)

At the risk of appearing to flood the forum, I just had to ask: Do you guys have any pirate gaming companies that you absolutely despise, that make you cringe and groan with every attempt at a game they make? And I'm talking about absolute loathing here. >_<

For me? It'd have to be Waixing, they started out with extremely poor games and they still pump out extremely poor games to this very day. I really can't help but wonder how they managed to survive, but eh, China, what can ya say?

To Waixing's credit, they've made ONE good game: Happy Biqi III - World Hero. But this doesn't excuse stuff like Pokemon Red and Gold, oh hell no it doesn't. :angry2:

So what about you guys? Any thoughts?  :P

The idea is simple enough. What with all the bad graphics and ear-splitting music, something out there in the Unlicensed World must've given you the creeps, at the very least.

For me, it's the Game Over screen in Aladdin 2, made by my arch-enemy Waixing before they became Waixing, this steaming turd, nooo, steaming melting turd of a game is a prime example of badly redrawn graphics and maddening beepy music. But when this Game Over screen came up, it was like a punch to the gut -- the soul gut. It was unexpected and kept me still for a few moments, it was...troubling and had staying power.  O_o

I named him Lord JaFuq!   :yay:

So what about you? What absolutely disturbs you in the wonderful world of unlicensed gaming?

Yo guys, I'm gunna need a bit of help here. I've been looking for the Titenic ROM ever since I heard about it waaaay back when in my lurker days. I know it's on a 15-in-1 multicart but I just can't seem to find it anywhere I look and there's so many 15-in-1 multicarts after all.

I was wondering if any of you swell fellows could help out? :D

Just putting this out here, and giving this thread a bit of a bump. I'm RayOfLightning on Skype too. If anyone's interested...EVER. xD

Also, just a footnote here: I prefer to chat through text instead of VC too.

Ditto to you too, man. :P And as I mentioned to KAGE, I'm trying but either I've just gotten incredibly lazy or getting the footage has gotten alot harder as I've gotten older. So, in short, I'm definitely trying to make some videos.
For NES games you should use FCEUX. For SNES games, Snes9x. For GB/GBC games, VBA (VBA-M for Win7 users). These emus have internal AVI recorder. However, in order to upload them, the videos must be rendered as WMV or MP4 files.
All VERY good suggestions, and I'll give 'em all a shot sometime. :) Thanks, man!  :pandahappy:

In fact, I'd say that I drive myself a little crazy with my constant attempts to do so. :pandamad:  :faint:

Well if you want to post a footage of a new dump, you must have a YT account. If you already have one, post it on your signature and the rest of this forum (including me) will check it out!

Back on topic: Welcome aboard. Enjoy your stay here  :)
Thanks! And don't worry, I know how this business works, I'm just not really too keen and putting a link to my YT in my signature till something's really on there.

Thaaat and I'm having some trouble recording The Lion King Legeng. Can't seem to get it to record in Nestopia. When I try to render it goes all nutty in the third level, might have to go the old fashioned route and use HyperCam2. Recording is a stressful buisness for me. O.o

But then again, I might be horribly lazy. :D

Hey there all, RayOfLightning here.

There's not much to say about myself really except that I've been lurking around for awhile, about a month or two when my interest in unlicensed gaming peaked again (I've been into it since about 2008).

I can't really contribute too much, I haven't got a lot of money so I can't buy actual cartridges and the like. Hell, I can't even afford the actual consoles, don't even have the space. I'm not exactly a master hacker either. I'm just here so that when a new dump comes up I can actually say thank you, share my thoughts and maybe post a video, who knows?

So yeah, that's pretty much all you need to know about me off the bat, it's good to be here. :somari:

PS. Gotta say, a Somari emote? Niiiice.
