BootlegGames Wiki / Articles for "Bootleg Hotspots"
« on: October 08, 2010, 08:22:56 PM »
I was thinking about it for a while and I wonder if it would be all right to make articles based off of media that has been the subject in bootlegs. You don't have to get all fancy with it like with Wikipedia. It's better off just making a summary of the stuff that's important. Me and Cheetah came up with a list of articles if this is a good idea:

List:
  • Mario
  • Sonic
  • Donkey Kong
  • Megaman
  • Earthworm Jim
  • Contra
  • Street Fighter
  • Mortal Kombat
  • King of Fighters
  • Fatal Fury
  • Dance Dance Revolution
  • Dragon Ball Z
  • Pokemon
  • Digimon
  • Aladdin
  • Titanic
  • Harry Potter
It wouldn't hurt to suggest more.

BootlegGames Wiki / Wikia's New Layout
« on: September 29, 2010, 07:18:25 PM »
I apologize that I haven't told anyone about this way earlier but Wikia is planning a layout change for all wikis. I've seen the layout before and it's nothing horrible compared to Youtube's and if they do another beta, I could show you guys. The new layout is coming in 5 weeks. Now if anyone doesn't like the new layout, I'm not sure what to exactly do. If most of you hate it I will move it maybe (but moving 144 articles is a BIG ASS) but when it does come, at least try to adjust to it. The layout is nothing compared to Youtube's shitty layout though.

Pirate Talk / Favorite Pirate Games
« on: September 26, 2010, 08:16:04 PM »
Talk about your favorite pirated games here!

Here are mine:

Famicom

Street Fighter IV/The Legend - It scares me that this is one of those few pirates where they actually put some effort into them. It's almost original and even comes with voice samples.

AV Bishoujo Senshi Girl Fighting - Honestly, you can throw the hentai out of the game and I'd still like it. It's not as good as SFIV in my opinion but it's still pretty nice. The only problem is how much stuff they have reused in this.

Aladdin (Hummer) - Really good port of the SNES game. It's lacking here and there but it feels like if some other pirate did it.

Donkey Kong Country 4 - Jesus Christ, Hummer deserves some praise for being one of the best pirate developers. Despite lacking some stuff from the original DKC, they did a pretty damn good job with this one.

Street Fighter III - Probably my 2nd most favorite Famicom/NES fighting game. They did a really good job porting SFII over and it's not the usual SFII engine either. My only complaint is the music though.

Street Heroes - Another original fighting game and probably the only game I've ever liked from Sachen. It actually uses more voice samples for the characters then SFIV did which is a plus.

Lei Dian Huang Bi Ka (Pokemon Yellow) - Shenzhen did a real good job porting Pokemon Yellow over. Even though they do get lazy near the end, this really just proves that you can port Pokemon to the NES. I kind of like how they used the later generation stuff for graphics and music. The fact that the Pokemon do have animations is even better.

Super Lion King - The fact they managed to outdo the official NES version is scary. The only problem is the jumping in the game itself.

Mega Drive

Squirrel King/Super Mario Bros - Awesome job at porting Chip & Dale to the NES. My only complaint is the weird animations on some enemies.

The Big Old Arcade / Favorite/Worst NES games
« on: September 26, 2010, 07:54:34 PM »
Pretty much post your favorite and worst NES/Famicom games here. However, do NOT post something that everyone knows and is bound to agree on (Action 52 being worst, SMB3 being best, etc.) Also no pirates here either.

Favorites:

Gimmick!/Mr. Gimmick - Good graphics, beautiful music, awesome gameplay...honestly one of my all time favorites.

Joy Mech Fight - Probably THE best fighting game for the Famicom/NES. This is a game I honestly want to see remaked or getting a sequel.

Spelunker - This game I feel like is one of the most underrated NES games. Pretty challenging but yet, addicting.

Armadillo - Also known as Super Mario Bros. IV or Rock Roll 3M, a pretty cool platformer that makes you switch back and forth between 2 forms. (Normal and ball)

Worst:
Takeshi No Chousenjou - I like this game for the novelty value but it's pretty crap overall. It's not hard dying here or screwing up really bad. (The karaoke part is annoying)

Castelian/Kyoro Chan Land - Not THE worst but it should have done better as a port from the Commodore 64 version. The music doesn't sound as cool and the bonus screens aren't as fun. They also didn't take much advantage of the new stuff like the fact there is more buttons on the controller.

Winter Games - Another computer classic that got butchered on the NES. Heck, the Atari versions did even better! (My dad ported the 7800 version just throwing that out there) The NES version only has 4 selections which is even less then the 2600's and the controls are horrid on it.

Transformers: Convoy No Nazo - You're just bound to die everywhere in this game and with the bullets going right over the enemies, that doesn't really help. It's weird how a huge robot can easily explode from a bullet. The music is a bit addicting though.

1993-1999 / Street Fighter III
« on: September 19, 2010, 06:29:05 PM »
Street Fighter III is a pretty good port of SFII with a totally different engine that hasn't been reused. Now SFIII has used a ton of stuff from other games but this lacks a copyright. Now here's what I gathered so far:

-As we all probably know, SFIII uses graphics straight from Master Fighter VI' but with the Yoko's removed and the sprites for the fighters are somewhat shorter. There's leftovers from Yoko's SFII titlescreen in the ROM as well.
-Ryu's and Chun-Li's portraits from Street Blaster II Pro almost match up. Some details are different here and there but I highly doubt it was a coincidence.
-The portraits in SFIII match up exactly with the ones in SFV (20 Peoples) with the exception of Balrog's/Vega's (which is totally different)

This also makes me wonder if Cony Soft's games were published under Ge De seeing how their cartridge art is original (one of their carts uses the MFVI' art) and that SFIII only used stuff from those two companies.

BootlegGames Wiki / Earthworm Jim 3 in 98?

There's a published date for Earthworm Jim 3 for 1998 which KAGEsk8 put on, is this true or not?

1993-1999 / KOF96 published by NT
« on: August 19, 2010, 01:18:06 PM »
I know there's a KOF96 published by JY but going through CaH43e's page, I found this:

Is it possible the ROM going around is really the NT one? The JY Urchin in it is glitched but this could be a case like how Super Mario World has a glitched JY Urchin (and on the full version, it isn't).

Famicom/NES / Harry Legend ID

Going through Cah4e3's game collection, I found the Harry Potter cart he has:

The ID number "K1916", does it sound familiar or has anyone seen it on another cart?

Pirated Work / Super Mario World NES Enemy sheet
« on: August 09, 2010, 02:55:48 PM »
I made a sprite sheet long ago that had sprites of SMWNES's (Full version) enemies and I included unused sprites as well (and the possible palettes). Posted it on MFGG as well. I updated because I forgot a few Lemmy and Wendy sprites.

This SHOULD be all the sprites unless I'm missing something. Some have a separate background because there's white on the sprite not outlined.

1993-1999 / Someri Team still around after 1994...?
« on: August 09, 2010, 10:20:16 AM »
I was looking through Garou Densetsu Special with the hex editor and I see this:

It's got MKII Special names but...the game itself has a Huang-1 chip.

1993-1999 / Unused levels in Panda Prince
« on: August 08, 2010, 07:11:16 PM »
Panda Prince is a crappy game but there's some strange things behind it... I was looking around on CaH4e3's cheat list until I noticed Panda Prince. There's a level selection if you press Start. Ok cool but wait...

Do those levels look familiar to you? They are the same ones in Super Lion King 2. (Although Super Lion King 2 still comes last)

Another level doesn't appear in both games!:

Underwater level with a different palette and design but uses the same enemies. The music is sped up though.

Oh, who remembers that wasp at that intro? Who was kinda upset that you fought a bird with a mustache instead? Look what I found:

Yes, there's barrels that spawn in the middle you can throw. (You can't jump on him). Beating him though takes you to a glitched title screen where you can't even move though and the music stops shortly. In SLK2, the wasp's invincibility time lasts forever though after the first hit.

This was something interesting that I just happened to find really. I wonder why the levels never made it though seeing they all work fine. (with the exception of beating the wasp but it's probably just an invalid pointer) In order to do it, you have to go in the hidden bonus room. (3 crates, not the ostrich/frog part) Press Start and use Up or Down to select the levels (Start to enter the level). Press Select to get to the bonus (ostrich/frog) or bosses but you have to use A or B to choose.
