...but what explains the Yong Yong part? Was EHY involved with Yong Yong in their other games? (Aside from Thunder Blast Man)[/quote]the fonts used for the copyright year and "Yong Yong" ending text were used in EHY's games. I think thats about it.

Jurassic Boy 2 is weird though. it uses EHY fonts too but its way better than any Yong Yong Sonic-ish game. whereas Thunder Blast Man just seems to be built off Rockman 8's engine, complete with shitty Yong Yong music.

yeah, there probably is an NT version, or something like that.

I wouldnt go so far as to say Hummer Team was working with ABAB Soft though..  everything discovered on one of their carts so far is either something already released on a single cart, or a hack, or something fairly amateurish (by hummer/etc standards) like Panda Adventure. My guess would be that maybe one member of staff joined ABAB (taking the sound engine and whatever games they had access to), and it was someone from whichever offshoot developed all those games for NT.

edit: though I think that 15 in 1 will probably hold a few answers. they seem to show up quite often on ruten. if only I had some damn money.

1993-1999 / Unused levels in Panda Prince
« on: August 08, 2010, 10:32:07 PM »
ooh. I wonder if the Lion King 2 levels were originally intended for "Panda Prince 2" (the alternate title in the rom). maybe LK2 was originally supposed to be PP2 but they turned it into a Lion King game at the last minute.

oh and the wasp boss actually appears in the "Jungle Adventure" hack (on the Vangard GameCore/D-Cat 8 handheld).. I was wondering where the hackers got that from. I havent beaten it though, because it's glitchy as hell and I've only managed to reach the wasp once without it crashing.

just noticed something in MK4 - I dunno if anyone remembers all the weird names that were found in the ROM a while back (thread here: http://s1.zetaboards.com/The_RX_Community?topic=1553447/1/).

they didn't make much sense back then, but now.. well the first two do, at least.jack and rose! the same text is in harry's legend too, just slightly modified:

.ROSE..JACK..BOSS..ANY..BOATER..BIG.HEAD..RAINBOW..BOMB.MAN..PACO.HEAD.
.FAT.MAN..KILLER..COOKIER..MARY..SOU.JIN..AN.MEI..JU.KOU..JONU.UOU.
.CHUN.ARYUO..RYU.FU..CHEN..........................ZHAO.XIONG.....HU..XU..MA.
.FEI.FEI..RYU..LEE..AN..ZHANG..YANG..TIGER..SHUE..GEE..GENG..LIN..HUANG..XU.
.GAN..HUANG..CHUN..HUAN..ZU..SI..HO..WANG..THUN..ANN..SOU.SOU..IRON..MU.
.ZI..XING..HE..WANG..ZHU..YAN..SOU.SOU..RI.TEN.....FISH..LOBSTER..MEAT.BUN.
.PORK..BBQ..DUCK..MEAT.BUN..CHICKEN..GOLD..BOOK..GOLD..SCROLL..TREASURE.
.GONG................................................................................................................
.AXE..UNI..DAI..HAMMER..AIKOK..SWORD..SAI....

so i guess this proves Titenic came before Harry's Legend.. and it was in development at the same time as MK4.

Yeah, its really odd. Either Rinco returned to the video game business after 10 years to publish some weird multicart, or ABABsoft just stole it. but I have no idea why they'd do that. hmm.
& heres something interesting:

i didn't make the connection until now, but this 15 in 1 cart is probably by ABABsoft too. & it has lots more links to hummer/someri.

games are:
1. Street Fighter IV
2. The Hummer(!) - Somari hack (probably - its described as a Sonic hack)
3 & 9-15. "single screen game like Bubble Bobble; you're a Felix-like cat and you have to get from one side of the screen to the other without dying, then advance to the next level, which adds enemies and obstacles." - sounds very much like Panda Adventure
4. War - presumably the same game as the one on ABAB's multi. uses Earthworm Jim 3 graphics.
5-6. Jack & Rose - Titanic themed Harrys Legend hacks. Probably "Titenic".
7-8. The Duck & The Egg - Duck Hunt clones, they lay eggs in the latter
some screens here:
http://goods.ruten.com.tw/item/show?21001299047544

one thing i noticed is that none of these ABAB carts include JY-published Hummer games, or anything significant derived from them (except that sand from Aladdin) - its all either early Someri Team stuff or the later related games released by NT etc. which does seem to lend weight to that whole theory that Hummer Team split at some point.

well I'll be damned. Rinco (=Ramar INternational CO.) is the publisher of The Dragon, that's their logo as it appears in that game. No idea what it's doing there.

Yeah, could be. Maybe it was one of the graphic artists, and they just hired an inexperienced programmer - the sprites are decent, even if the backgrounds arent particularly detailed, but  it just feels a lot like a student project or something.

1993-1999 / JY -> SC?
« on: August 05, 2010, 11:04:15 PM »
okay, i saved this about .. three years ago, from  a Taiwanese auction site, and just recently found it again:
%20Finae%20Fight%203%20Super%2025%20in%201.jpg]http://fuji.drillspirits.net/stuff/[SC-128]%20Finae%20Fight%203%20Super%2025%20in%201.jpg
its a 25 in 1 multicart, ID no SC-128, with JY/Hummer's Final (well, "Finae") Fight 3 on it, which as far as I know was never included on a JY multi. the famous 45 in 1 with the full version of SMW, JY-120, was AFAIK also released as SC-120 as well.

now all the known JY multis after 120 have very standard, plain looking menus compared to the earlier ones, and are full of all kinds of cheap hacks and other companies' originals that you wouldn't usually find on an "old" JY cart, with way fewer actual JY originals.

so i'm wondering if there was some kind of split around the 45-in-1's release, where the "real" JY company staff became "SC", and whoever was left at JY just carried on cranking out shitty carts?

Yeah, Titenic and Rings (and maybe War too) could well be Hummer/etc games.. or they could be crappy ABABsoft originals like Panda Adventure, I suppose. But it definitely looks like there's some kind of connection - maybe a former Hummer team member worked for them or something.

ooh. nice find. I noticed the same thing about the Panda Adventure/menu music - it does sound kinda like the same engine as Hummer etc, just not the same person using it.

btw this is the one image thats broken on the latest archived copy of their website:

& I'm sure I've seen "Space Shuttle Exploration" somewhere else. but I can't think where. famiclone maybe?

1984-1992 / strangeness about Street Fighter II..
« on: August 05, 2010, 01:31:23 PM »
well that's weird. I always assumed SFII came first, because they stuck to the Master Fighter name for MFVI. but if that was the case it wouldnt make sense for them to remove their name from Chun-Li's stage for MFII, then put it back in for MFVI.

I guess maybe they made both MFII and SFII around the same time, MFII for countries where they couldn't get away with using the Street Fighter name and SFII for everywhere else, then at some later point they released another version of SFII with their name edited into the background (possibly as a reaction to the xoxo hack)?
