There's something I'm interested in on US eBay but the seller only ships to the US - would anyone be able to help me out here? Basically I'd pay the seller, have them ship to your US address, then when you receive it I'd pay you (by paypal) the shipping costs to send it to me in the UK. I'll cover any paypal fees and crap like that too so it won't cost you anything.

Famicom/NES dumps / Sports Game 69 in 1
« on: October 22, 2011, 09:38:21 AM »
cah4e3 dumped this from my cart, but he isn't releasing it on his site because the VT03 games don't work (even in EmuVT):

http://www.mediafire.com/?x93f3w8khlrtvu7 (BIN)
http://www.mediafire.com/?g8sm6zi3a61pgcn (NES)

It's from a cart packed with a Wii clone by Qi Sheng Long, the WiWi (87 games version) aka EZi aka other things, a mix of VT03 and standard NES games by Nice Code. so. enjoy!(?)

Bootleg Bazaar / Interesting stuff for sale elsewhere
« on: October 17, 2011, 07:18:42 PM »
Thought it might be a good idea to start a thread for interesting pirate-related stuff you aren't selling yourself but you've seen for sale on auction sites or online stores or wherever else, just to share with people who might be interested...

so to start with, here's something I spotted on eBay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Double-Players-Mini-Joystick-/250510343071

its an 80 in 1 joystick by ABL, but the games seem to be VT03 stuff from Waixing (including Cube Tech, Nice Code, Inventor & Waixing's own games from the looks of things). I'd totally buy one but I have no money. again.

2000-present / X Boy's Famicom multicarts
« on: October 16, 2011, 07:01:33 PM »
maxzhou88 dumped X-War and X-Plan from some multicarts recently -
http://hi.baidu.com/maxzhou88/blog/item/a93323128d35c5d2c2fd786d.html
these were both already dumped in different forms so im not creating a whole new topic in the dumps forum (X-War is slighty different to the dump, it has a 2001 copyright, a TM symbol left over from Silkworm and remnants of a Sammy logo) but the interesting thing (to me anyway) is the carts these things were dumped from.

I don't think I can hotlink images from baidu but go to the blog post and have a look for yourself - they're X Boy multicarts! X Boy being the publisher of a whole bunch of Mega Drive pirate originals developed by Gamtec & co. Now this would explain Panda World only being found on a similar XB multi - its a Gamtec (or related) game. After a certain point they seem to have switched to Inventor hacks though.

Heres a list of the ones I'm aware of:
XB-F70 - 76~10MGin1 Super Pocket Monster, Castlevania (Boku Dracula Kun), Chip & Dale 2, Galaxian, Pooyan, Track & Field, Ninja Fighter (Ikki), Macross, Bungeling Bay, Bush Roller (Cheetahmen has this one. btw any chance of a PCB shot? im kinda curious)
XB-F812 - 9 in 1 Panda World, Konami 1, Bubble Bobble, Duck, Robot Fighter, Pinball, Mario Bros, Macross, Road Fighter
XB-F863 - 8 in 1 Star Wars (???), Fighter, Spar, Hellfire, Maze, 3 more
XB-F865 -8 in 1 Super Fighters (Nekketsu Kakutou Densetsu hack), Basketball, X-Plan, Ladangel, Little Hag, Tennis, Bomb, Penguin
XB-F866 - 9 in 1 Frog Prince, Basketball, Bomb, Tennis, Aether, Sheer Nijia 3 (???), 3 more

This probably also explains the broken Super Pocket Monster on the 76 in 1 - its a previously unseen variation, and it'd be quite hard to break a game that way if they'd just ripped it from some other cart, but if it came direct from their contact at Gamtec he might have accidentally sent them the wrong version of the game.

also according to maxzhou88 the Inventor-hack ones came from a friend who got them from the Hong Kong Game Show in 2002 (or something like that), so who knows if they were ever actually released in the end..

2000-present / ActionStar Gaming System
« on: October 08, 2011, 11:24:21 AM »
came across this on amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/ActionStar-Gaming-System-built-Games/dp/B004TZG8EO/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
seems to be a famiclone, it has 200 games built in and if you zoom in on the back of the box, one of them looks like a hack of Hummer's Dragon Running with people instead of dinosaurs...

but there are none in stock and I can't find them for sale anywhere else. "Newbie Gaming" seem to have put out a press release about it in April and although there's a page about it on their website, its not actually linked from the products page or homepage. maybe it was never released?

Edit: Anyway I just sent the company an email to find out what the deal is with it. So we'll see. (if they reply)

Pirate Talk / Nanjing's new website
« on: October 01, 2011, 08:55:53 AM »
Nanjing seem to have revamped their website recently:
http://www.sznanjing.com.cn/
It's now entirely focused on their lines of crap handheld famiclones and other related products, even the Chinese version has no sign of their famicom carts. (You'd think there'd be an opportunity to reissue them for the handhelds like Waixing did with the Coolboy, but I guess not).

also, according to Trenton_net in this thread at famicomworld (selling Waixing/Nanjing carts): http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=6335.15
Quote:

UPDATE: I have word that Waixing and Nanjing are tightening distribution of these items over extreme copyright concerns outside of China. As a result, items are being discontinued or extremely limited to select local distributors. All sales have ended and items are now back at regular price. Sorry about the inconvenience, but with no guarantee of any future stock supply is likely to dry up (and has already started).[/quote]
i'm not sure how true that is - it seems very very strange that they'd stop distribution of games that - even if they were based on stolen content - were at least programmed from scratch, when all their handhelds bar the NJ Pocket are loaded full of straight-up stolen games and they still sell those openly.

But i guess this could mean the era of new famicom games (on cart anyway, I'm sure new plug-&-play stuff is still being made) is finally over...

Famicom/NES dumps / Waixing's downloadable NES games
« on: September 20, 2011, 09:05:46 PM »
reposted from the staff forum:

a while back I discovered this site http://www.istudy666.cn run by Subor and providing downloads for various SD-slot equipped consoles and educational... things.

if you want to explore the site yourself, the first page is just a server selection, all servers have the same stuff. the next page is all the Subor products they have downloads for, the middle column is game consoles and the like. depending on the system you'll find all manner of software and games, this mostly native stuff for the 32-bit SPG293 system most of them run on, which unfortunately means we can't do much with those since there's no SPG293 emulator (at least not a public one).

but one interesting thing i found buried in there was a pack of 198 8-bit games  - 8-bit meaning NES naturally. Now obviously Subor isnt just going to put these up there for any tom, dick or harry to download and play on their NES emulator, they're in a custom encrypted .wxn format (wxn = WaiXiNg/WaiXing NES?) but the filenames seemed to indicate it was full of Waixing cart games plus their built-in stuff from various famiclones.

now that might have been the end of it, but since some of those games are already dumped I was able to compare them against existing dumps and figure out the encryption. (and i was pretty damn surprised that I managed it, since I've never decrypted anything in my life. I can only assume that means Waixing's encryption totally sucks.)

(Incidentally these encrypted roms also have their own header format, I havent figured it out exactly but it is at least somewhat based on iNES - it has PRG and CHR sizes in the same place for example. instead of "NES" it starts with "mfc", and I have found old listings for a PSP-lookalike MP4 player which claims to play "MFC" games among others, so maybe this format has been used elsewhere at some point?)

anyway I wrote a program to decrypt them and i've now decrypted all 198 of the damn things. only 43 of those games will run in emulators as is - some are normal NES games, some are VT03 so theyre in EmuVT .bin format.
As for the remainder, there are basically two different problems that occur with them - some don't display the proper graphics, they seem to be failing to switch banks when they should (and this applies for VT03 too). Others don't run at all, especially the larger RPG games. I'm not sure if these are mapper issues or if there's something wrong with the way I'm decrypting them, or the Subor console's emulator does something unusual, or what. in the case of the VT03 games it's quite likely that I'm not converting them to .bin format properly though.

so! have some files:

http://www.mediafire.com/?675buu2isdddi

8位游戏合集数据包.rar - Original archive. Subor's servers are slow as hell so i'm rehosting it.
wxdec02.zip - Decryption program, for windows (requires .net framework 2.0). it can also attempt to convert .nes to EmuVT .bin but thats fairly preliminary
wxdec02src.zip - Source code. if anyone wants to improve it or anything.
wx-working.rar - All working roms, plus their original encrypted versions
wx-notworking.rar - Non working roms, including encrypted, decrypted .nes and .bin where applicable. one or two roms might have wrong names since I can't actually see the title screens in most cases, but I've tried to keep them fairly accurate.

Famicom/NES dumps / A few new Waixing/Nanjing dumps
« on: September 13, 2011, 12:01:10 PM »
from tszone: http://hi.baidu.com/tszone_fc/blog/item/e3eaa1ca566ee59dc81768d3.html

Zhen Jia Hou Wang, an awful platform game by Waixing, and Chong Wu Gao Da Zhan Ji by Nanjing which i've yet to play but looks like Pokemon and Gundam had a baby.

he also held a poll about which roms to release here: http://hi.baidu.com/tszone_fc/blog/item/653948d9e2421af238012f07.html
so from the looks of things KOF R1 by Nanjing and "Dream Master"  by Waixing are in the pipeline, I have no idea what the latter is but no one voted for it, poor thing ):

There's also one more Waixing game from kamming: http://hi.baidu.com/kamming/blog/item/4eacf8cae29e485df21fe7b4.html
Ji Dou Sheng Zhan Shi, a Chinese translation of Bikkuriman World.
incidentally i read that page through google translate and i'm a big fan of google's translation of the chinese for (presumably) "dumped by" as "sucked out by"

Pirate Talk / pirate games = inescapable
« on: September 13, 2011, 10:32:01 AM »
I've been at this thing for the past few days. the last place you'd ever expect to see anything pirate game related, right? well so i thought until I had a look around this one clothing/accessories stall, where they'd obviously seen people with accessories made of old NES controllers and thought "oh I'll have a piece of that". so they'd put a few different controllers on these big chains, like a PC one and a SNES one. and then the second player controller from a god damn Power Joy. this shit just follows me around sometimes. I considered buying it but I went for a lion hat instead, which was totally the better choice because it's awesome.

at one point I also happened upon a DJ playing "Round & Round" by Heller & Ohlen which was ripped off by Cube Tech for "Apex Gun" (one of the better games on the Overmax handheld I have, so I'd played it recently) but I'm guessing he didn't know that.

Wonderful Wide Web / Browser poll
« on: August 28, 2011, 03:16:39 PM »
I mentioned on these boards before that I'm working on site serving as kind of a database of Chinese plug & play consoles and the games on them (as it turns out it might even help me get a job, which has kind of motivated me to pick it back up lol) but in the design of the thing i've been using a couple of newish CSS features that only work in newer browsers.

Now as someone who does a lot of web design/development I have the latest versions of all the major browsers but I dunno if most people keep their browsers updated too, or if I should be putting more focus on having it look half decent in older versions. for my purposes there's not all that much separating the individual browsers anymore, even IE9 is pretty good, so instead of just asking "which browser are you using" i'm just interested to know how up-to-date everyone's chosen browser is.

Bootleg Bazaar / FS: random fami pirates
« on: August 17, 2011, 07:03:22 PM »
just some generic stuff, no originals, but they're all good games. no early-gen multicart fodder or anything.

 prices in GBP, £1 = about US$1.60

"Monaco V.R." (Chase HQ, title screen hacked to say "GAME" & copyright to "SUPER MONACO GP II"), Gun.Smoke, Double Dragon 3. "Jungle Strike II" (Cobra Command), Kage, Operation Wolf, Rockman 3, Rockman 2 sold!, Salamander (Life Force/US version) all £5 each.

Jigoku Gokuraku Maru & "Super Batman 99" (Batman Returns) £2.50 each (due to poor cart condition)

NY Nyankies £1.50 due to *really* poor cart condition (the tabs are broken so the two sides don't stay together, but the PCB works at least)

I can't get Raf World to work at all so anyone who buys something else can have it for free if they want it. & this is gone!

Shipping for 1 cart: UK £1.50, Europe £2.00, worldwide £3.00. Add £0.20 UK/£0.50 Europe/£0.80 worldwide for each additional cart.
thanks for looking!

Other Pirates / Overmax OV-Gameplayer
« on: August 16, 2011, 09:01:21 PM »
Been a little bit busy lately so I don't have time to take tons of screenshots or anything just yet, but I got this handheld recently: http://www.overmania.pl/0-64-konsola_overmax_fioletowa_gameplayer_111_gier_sluchawki_av-produkt.html
(Overmax btw are the worst for using the wrong screenshots on things, the game in the top image and obviously the one where it's connected to a TV aren't actually on here. Sometimes every single one of their promo pics and box screenshots for a console depict games from something else)

Its manufactured by Macro Winners originally, its a VT168 (I think) based handheld with "111" games - actually 96 games, 15 are repeats. Macro Winners' own page for the thing actually says "96 Games, can extension to 111 games".
.......
so what is the point of that, Macro Winners. Jesus.

the console itself is reasonably well made and the controls are decent, it has a rubberised coating that feels a bit cheap though. and the sound from the inbuilt speaker is terrible but the only headphones that work are the included set (which, equally, are terrible) because it uses the same jack as the A/V out and it is evidently a proprietary connection.

Anyway the games are Cube Tech and Waixing's stuff mostly seen on various 16-bit MiWis, theyre split into five sections:

8 in 1 - Cube Tech sports games. Strangely the baseball game in here has the same music as the menu screen on Nanjing's Sport 6 in 1/Wow/Vii etc.

16 in 1 A - Waixing games. Lots of these are on the iSports I have but there are a few differences in some of them, Motor Storm has an intro for example & Archery is missing its awesome Ace Attorney title screen ):

16 in 1 B - More waixing games. Super X-Man is in here but it's the same as Commander from the iSports with a different title screen, it's not the one seen elsewhere with selectable characters

68 in 1 - a ton of Cube Tech games. with varying levels of quality and music stealage. This is where the 15 repeats are (seriously Macro Winners, why bother).
interestingly(?) a few of the games on Senca's Family Sports series are pretty much identical to some of the games on here, with different graphics. these plug & play developers really confuse me.. Cube Tech, Waixing, Senca, Shenzhen Niutai, Jungletac & Nice Code and god only knows how many more all have weird little connections like that going on. It seems like theres just the same few people going round all these companies sometimes.

Drum Master- 3 two-button rhythm games. On a MiWi you'd shake each Mi-mote (yes that's what they're called) instead but with buttons they're too simple really. two have poorly sampled full songs though, namely Hot Stuff & I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing
here's a quick game list:

Found these on eBay, I already posted them on famicom world but i'll stick them here too if anyone's interested. the auctions are all UK only, all ending very soon with no bids at 99p/1p. i'd buy one or two of them myself but i'm trying to save money at the moment and the postage is a bit much.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/33-1-Tv-Games-Console-Old-Classic-Games-/190561138945
its a Console TV Famiclone by ABL. i used to have one, it has mostly hacks built in and on the included cart, with one or two original games. battery operated only mind you. but it does work fine with original famicom carts.

16-bit plug & play kickboxing system:

Famicom/NES / Computer famiclones
« on: August 04, 2011, 11:36:23 PM »
I just recently rediscovered this page about an interesting computer Famiclone i found a while back. so im gonna start a thread about these things!

heres the one i found: http://2style.in/torahanako/pachifami_MUSICIAN.html
its a (computer) keyboard with a slide-out (music) keyboard. and it runs on... Windows XP? Well kinda.

the fake BIOS screen is the same as the dumped Windows 98 which is basically useless, it's just a start menu and a desktop that just leads to a bunch of random windows windows and static non-functional screenshots of programs and stuff.

but the XP on here actually does stuff, it has like a text editor and a calculator and a music thingy (naturally) and other programs that actually do stuff, plus a few fakey windows apps like QQ and IE.

there are three games included, all Nice Code - Boxworld, Bomberman 2002 and Pikachu Tetris. plus the QQ app has a bear asking if you're in Xian, which is where Nice Code is based, so i'm guessing this is their work. Which I suppose would also mean the useless 98 was theirs too.
