Super Famicom/SNES / Killer Instinct 2 Deluxe Edition
« on: October 31, 2016, 10:18:14 PM »
Using Super UFO is a bad choice. It's a piece of shit. You need to invest in a better ROM dumper as the Super UFO Pro works best with official, retail carts. It's pretty much garbage for most other types. Also, it would be better if the game was dumped properly instead of Frankensteining it through hacks. Minor repairs would be ok if it involves removing unnecessary data added by the copier and whatnot, but not for this purpose.

Other Pirates / Clone console

A rip of an unlicensed game was posted on a Chinese discussion board from a clone console. I was referred to this release by a friend, and we're not sure what emulator, if any, will run this. We don't really know what hardware it copies.

2000-present / ROM dumps of games - Anyone here collect them?
« on: August 16, 2016, 11:03:15 AM »
piratenesgames, I noticed the Contra Force folder contains C The Adventure. This is a homebrew hack, as it never appeared on cartridge. Super Contra 7 is missing New Contra and Super Fight I; maybe New Contra is the original and the other 3 are hacks of idk.

Famicom/NES / Dumping NES/Famicom Carts?

I received a couple NES repros for Christmas: two copies of RetroUSB's NES Campus Challenge 1991: http://www.retrousb.com/product_info.php?cPath=&products_id=68. There's only one original copy in existence AFAIK, and they have it. Well I haven't owned an NES since the 80s! I plan on (hopefully) buying one soon, along with a flash cart.

Anyways, as many of you (most?) know, there isn't a (publicly) available ROM for this game. This was the #1 reason I chose this title as the first NES cart I've bought since the '80s. Now onto the issue:

I've never dumped a ROM, and I got this game partially for the purpose of getting this game into a ROM format. I know I could send it to a reputable scene dumper, but I'd prefer doing this myself. Atm, I'm leaning towards the Kazzo: http://www.infiniteneslives.com/kazzo.php. So far, based off the description, it's only fault is that it doesn't dump SNES ROMs.

Does anybody have any recommendations as to the best option for what I want to do?
RetroUSB doesn't have the only copy of NCC in existence, just the only 1 that is publicly known. At least 2 others are in private collector hands and you can bet there's next to no chance of them surfacing (save perhaps a 5-6 figure offer).

Dumping the RetroUSB version's ROM is your choice, but it isn't the true original game ROM because they modified it to some degree. On top of that, by definition their version is a bootleg. So if/when you dump it and you might release it, add a suffix to the rom file name; ex, in brackets can write (RetroUSB) or (repro).

If you wanted to dump it yourself the cheapest alternative would be something like the Super UFO 8 that uses SD cards. A dump wouldn't work straight out in an emulator, you'd have to get someone to patch it....
Don't use that shit, it's total garbage. Get a Retrode 2 or Mash-Mods programmer.

Famicom/NES / Find Contra 7 nes

Super Contra 4 is not a pirate, it's a hack. I don't know why I put it under 8 Bit clones maybe it was when I THOUGHT it was a pirate (due to google translate fucking up translations as usual, I misinterpreted cx4 IIRC), but forgot to change the category. I'm not arsed to change it, though.

BTW, Dragons2snow, I'm glad that somebody looks at my blog.

I'm guessing such sound quality from this April Fool's ROM is a feature of the emulator? That's the thing that interests me the most.

I'm hoping this thing (or anything similar to it that has the Contra game in question) is available on a site that other users on this forum buy from. That way, I can indirectly purchase it (I've done it here with GBA Doom II in the past, so...).

Done. ;)

However, the article itself brings up an issue. This 'Family Games' thing seems to be one of those shareware compilations and I don't think those really qualify as bootlegs unless the games included are the full versions.

I'd imagine the Bubble Bobble game probably counts as such though if it's an unofficial clone of the original or something.
Considering many shareware versions of Doom are labelled bootleg copies, it's safe to say bootlegging applies to shareware games, too.

@Cheetahmen, the 3rd screenshot shows in-game action. Another screenshot from elsewhere shows another game, but this is definitely a Contra pirate.

The label calls it "Snowfield Battle", which is an old flash version of Contra. But this game is totally unrelated; you're clearly fighting in the Jungle and (3rd shot) character sprites are simplified transparent drawings.

@RobGBA, I actually would want to buy it because I collect Contra stuff and this pirate is very interesting.

I'm not entirely sure where this goes, but Famicom/NES is the closest that it is. Take a look at this: http://detail.china.alibaba.com/offer/1119066495.html

Anybody here ever buy from that site or buy from a site that has that system?
