Decided to plunge into this rabbit hole once more and I've actually managed to discover some striking new information!

First off, the game "Красный Краб" is a ROM hack of Super Mario Bros originally developped in December of 2005 which was later released in the first issue of the magazine TOF in 2006. By the developers its considered a milestone ROM hack in the scene since it's one of the first hacks to fully change everyting about a game, not just a few sprites.
The developers are Cari and TiberiyLTim.

Now about Cari. They're actually not one person but two brothers who shared a username at the time. They're also not even Russian but Ukranian. The name of one of the brothers behind Cari is "Голубев" (Golubev), born in the Soviet Union and in 2005 living in Украина г. Днепропетровск (Ukraine, Dnepropetrovsk)

https://romhacking.ru/news/bolee_10_let_khaku_red_crab_nes/2016-02-09-3355

"This year is the 10th anniversary of the release of the first Russian made ROM hack on the NES - "Red crab". This ROM hack was made in December 2005 and release to the public in the first issue of the electronic magazine "TOF", which was devoted to video games, emulation, romhacking and so on. Prior to this hack, independent romhackers had not been making full-scale hacks. A surprising exception was Kabal with his "UMKT" on SMD. At the time, the creation of mods only extended to crude redrawings of the characters or increases in the number of lives ("cheat hacks"), but such hacks, which changed almost everything (graphics, text, levels, sound, etc.) almost never existed from private ROM hackers."

"I came across the Super Mario Bros hack by Cari. It was the nickname of two brothers who were extremely illiterate, as they lived in Dnepropetrovsk and were quite young. And nobody wanted to work with them because they were behind a series of NES/SMD game translations into Russian of terrible quality. Perhaps some of their translations have been preserved to this day at bit16.ru."

This is from the mentioned TOF magazine, which I'll also post below. To read it, set the encoding to "Cyrillic (Windows)" otherwise you'll only see a jambled mess of characters:

From the "Redaction" page of the "Authors" section:

Sorry for the many posts. I just dug into that website again and the only thing of note I found was an SMB hack by the guy called "Красный Краб" (literally "Red Crab"). It's for the NES.
I downloaded the rom from his website and tried to play it on my 3DS but it wouldn't let me proceed past the initial screen. The game didn't crash I don't think, it just didn't recognize any button presses.

Here's the rom if anyone wants to try to get this game running to find out if there's more to this than just a single screen.

Also in the third link about the unfinished game it says CARI aka Tzar meaning it's not just his nickname but possibly his first name and his nick.

Gotta correct myself here: it seems Cari is just the romazination of Цари, which is itself the plural of Царь which romanizes to Tzar.
Idk what I was thinking about it being his actual name or whatever...

If he's actually BMB we can confirm it's pronounced /vmv/ judging by his profile picture.

What sort of hacks are these? sprite hacks or cheats to make the games more fun

"KUDOS" is the company that the developer is working for. The developer is known as "BMB", But I have a theory related to his identity, his actual pseudonym (as they credited themselves secretly on a hidden sublevel in level 9 in Mario 3) is CARI TZAR.

If we look this name up, we get the following results:
The incomplete homebrew game has similar physics to what you would find in a BMB game (might be a coincidence)
This might have been BMB's online identity before they got hired by KUDOS to work on games (Mario 3 is most likely the first game they worked on for KUDOS)

This sounds promising, even though there's no way to know for sure.
Also in the third link about the unfinished game it says CARI aka Tzar meaning it's not just his nickname but possibly his first name and his nick. However, since I don't speak russian myself and with the English translation on the website being quite janky plus Cari sounding like a pretty strange name, I'm not to sure on this.

Just thought it'd be intersting to share though.

Hey, I just wanted to let the staff know that the forum doesn't want to load if the browser automatically attempts to upgrade the connection to https. It will definitely put new members off when they're greeted with a big fat security warning from their browser, so turning this site https would probably be for the better.

Bump.

I'm actually also interested in is. I've had the gbxcard in the back of my mind for a long time so knowing if it is possible to dump my multicarts with it would be helpful. C:

I was just browsing ebay when I came across possibly the worst fake Pokémon card I've ever seen.

Literally nothing makes sense here. What is that fricking wall border, the classic 520HP, it literally evolves from Magnemite and the icon is just the card image scaled down. The pokédex entry at the bottom is also hilarious.

How did people even consider falling for these xD

Wow! They're selling a ton of near mint CIB Game Boy games on there.
I've never seen this amount of games in high quality offered anywhere, and the prices seem to be reasonable as well. I can't really tell because I'm not really into sealed retro games but something tells me that people on ebay would be asking maybe twice as much as this guy is.

I also found a dutch website that sells some bootleg Game Boy games through my "research" into Game USA multicarts. It looks pretty neat but I can't vouch for the quality of their store as I haven't bought anything from them.
Still, here's the website if anyone's interested :)
