Pirated Work / Super Mari War 5: 9999-in-1

I guess this might be a good reason for me to actually come back on this forum!

PREVIEWS are approaching fast.

Game Boy / That mysterious Aladdin 2 cart
« on: March 28, 2013, 02:13:12 PM »
...just for a heads up.

Okay, so there were at least three people (Picrodius, KingPepe and RobGBA) who forced me to get this.

The cart itself is pretty much cheap dirt: 50 hryvnas to buy it out instantly and 25 as a minimal bet, all that without the shipping. And it's only five days till the auction closes, by the time I made this thread!

The problem is that by the time the item will be delivered, I'll most likely go out to visit my relatives in Taganrog, Russia, as well as my girlfriend in the same location, although my mom will bring the parcel home, so that's not much of a bother. There's also a more serious issue, though... I'm trying to buy a jack in the box and neither me nor everyone else on these boards knows whether it's that shitty Sintax platformer we've all been waiting for or... Or, even worse, that horrendous excuse of a game by Chengdu Tai Jing Da Dong Computer Co. crammed into an emulator. I won't be able to find that out when I get the cartridge either, because I don't own a GBA (even the copycat one).

Pirate Talk / Captain WinAMP to the rescue!
« on: March 25, 2013, 11:11:43 AM »
I know this might be a bit outdated, but if you're still interested in stuff that Kinamania releases and can't quite catch up with Dendy Chronicles 8, there you go! I've subbed this sucker in and out.

There might be more unexploited stuff I can translate and more chances to expand over Shiru's translations (which in fact shorten a lot more sentences than my recent subs do).

Pirated Work / Hummertek
« on: January 25, 2013, 08:53:11 AM »
While I'm attempting to take my first steps in Android coding, how about pre-planning a project which will be adored by all ye obscure gaming lovers?

The concept's codename (it will most likely be its' final name, too) is Hummertek, which aims at creating the most accurate ports or pastiches of H. Cheng's works ever. Discounting some of the "collector's features", such as avatar characters, music replacement menu, more complete versions of obviously unfinished games, "typo killer", "boobie censorship" and so on, and so on.

Because I can.  :pandaaway:

So far, I've got two ideas on how such a game should be done:
  • By making a collection of most of the older (which is, pre-VT) games by Hummer Team.
  • By using an approach similar to Game Center CX on Nintendo DS (otherwise known as Retro Game Challenge), where you get to play a multicart similar to Samuri or ZDog, but with a couple of faux-Hummer games (so far, I've thought of ports of Sonic 3 and a MegaDrive fighting game based on Lord of the Rings) and a separate beat 'em up game.
Suggestions are welcome.

While the game itself is still being under its' pre-development phase, there are also attempts at making music for the project, so YO CHECK DIS OUT!  :pandahappy:

BootlegGames Wiki / How about BGW in Russian?
« on: July 04, 2012, 06:09:17 AM »
I'm pretty sure it's gonna be one of those projects that may be abandonded by me after a while or two, but here's the catch. Many retrogamers from Russia and nearby countries still don't know, let's say, what is Hummer Team, they don't know that Hummer is still active, they don't know that Harry's Legend is actually a hacked Titenic, and yet most of them don't know the actual developers of certain games, generically dubbing those as "fucking Chinese pirates".

So, why can't BootlegGames Wiki have a Russian spin-off?

And I do mean HERE.

Just for starters, I've copied mine and Taizou's layout to it and made a stubby translation of an article about Somari. Without pictures, sure thing.

Pirated Work / Hummer music on FamiTracker instrument pack
« on: June 21, 2012, 05:31:39 AM »
Okay, I know you have definitely blamed the music in some of the Hummer Team's games and thought you could do better, right? Right? Oh, please, don't hide your eyes away, I know you do. And now, you can actually replicate the way Hummer Cheng's engine sounds with the help of FamiTracker!

Well, let's see whether you can do better with this instrument set.

I compiled this load of crap when I was bored, just as usual. And when I had a magical FamiTracker-based utility called NSF Import which allowed to see what notes, what volumes and what effects the song uses. According to the data it gives when I feed the utility with Hummer NSFs of different ages, I made what you can download below. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to transplant the tracker-based pitch onto the instrument window, so these are not 100% accurate, but will that really bother you. Not to mention that what I give you is not a complete collection (yet), but probably the most exploited part of it.

The triangle drums, in turn, were stolen from Conbon/KingPepe's collection, without his permission, obviously enough  :pandaaway:

Nothing much I have to comment on how to use these, you can pretty much look at the examples or listen to the actual Hummer NSFs channel-by-channel. One thing I would suggest is that triangle drums were mostly used in fighting games where the noise channel is a place for punch/kick sound effects (the only exception from this rule I know: Ture Mortal Kombat 3 and its' Soul Chamber stage). Oh, and one more: if you're going to import the results into Famitone sound engine like I did, then make sure you don't put volumes or effects into the tracker's window and don't go farther than C-1 or B-5.

The Examples folder includes a cover of A Background To History Part 4 by Monty Python (with sources and the track compiled into Famitone demo program) and Dick Dale's famous rendition of Misirlou (with sources only thanks to the goddamn octave range).

That's all, have fun!

LINK ME BEAUTIFUL!

P. S. Anyone, send the jy_evidence.nes file to Hummer, he might be happy to have some fanart of his work.  :pandahappy:

Hacker Center / Any way I can make Somari warp?
« on: June 15, 2012, 05:15:17 AM »
Okay, let's say I want to make a hack of Somari, Sonic the Hedgehog, start not from the Spring Yard Zone but from Green Hill. Is there any way to patch/correct the ROM so it would begin there?

Discussion Center / Krossklash 8-bit Character Creation System
« on: June 13, 2012, 06:33:06 AM »
I remember showing this thing to KingPepe previously and now, after I've made a very slight update, a decision about throwing this to public was made.

So, this thing was inspired by many wrestling games' Create-A-Superstar mode, as well as similar modes in Mortal Kombat Armageddon, Soulcalibur III, Soulcalibur IV, Soulcalibur V, whatever. Only now it's extremely small and in 8-bit, but who cares? It looks cool, it includes a lot of parts, it works!

It's what I'd like to call Krossklash: Locked & Loaded Character Creator Chart v. 1.0.

It was not intended for the "fakebit" style, so it pretty much lives up to the "standards of the real hardware": all head, torso and legs parts have two tiles each, and each character includes three colors: one for skin/eyes/other white places, one for outlines/black places and the last, custom one which is for "painting" hair and/or outfit elements.

Here's a bunch of really, really quick examples of what it's possible to do with this thing. You may need to refer to the link above to read the text, though, because of PGC Forums' black background...

Mega Drive/Genesis / Simba's Battle City
« on: June 11, 2012, 06:14:48 AM »
There was supposed to be a Battle City entry in the undumped games list at BootlegGames Wiki, right? Now I guess it's just time to take it down! Maybe.

Here is that port, published and supposedly developed by Simba's.

The game's actually called "Tanks Classic" on the title screen and simply "Tanks" on the main menu. In addition, it exploits PCM samples (which includes some epic war music and sound effects ripped directly from the original), has three difficulty levels, two modes ("Quest" and "Arcade") and all-new graphics. That's pretty much all I can say about it so far.  :pandaaway:

Wonderful Wide Web / Action 53 is now in development
« on: June 09, 2012, 03:40:12 PM »
Okay, so I was browsing the internets again, looking for a nice multicart engine, until I came across...

THIS.

Long story short, Damian Yerrick decided to make a follow-up to the so very much infamous Action 52 that would include a more interactive menu, as well as a bunch of great and not-so-really-great homebrew games (there are some big names on the list, like Shiru!).

Not to mention that the menu is available to the public and, moreover, is opensource... Which makes it a great base for a multicart, apart from those OneBus-based 200-in-1 cartridges. It requires some knowledge about how NES's memory works, though...

The Big Old Arcade / Burn The Lighter #1
« on: January 13, 2012, 03:26:20 PM »
Well yeah. With my newly-obtained love to ZX Spectrum, it would be obvious that I would help its' scene sooner or later. Like, C64 has several worthy diskmags per year, while the last diskmag on Speccy was released in the beginning of 2009, and then it went blank. At least until Krik'11 came out, but I just dunno when the English version will come up, so I decided to start this project:

See what it is. Download links lie here too.

Yeah, I know it's been, like one year and one-and-a-half months, but I think it still would be nice to archive my creation here  :$

Pirate Talk / DualStation / Gen-X

Dunno how to move on with this thread, but it seems like I fell in love with this famiclone, good lordy  :faint:

http://www.planeta-igr.com.ua/published/publicdata/PLANETA/attachments/SC/products_pictures/DSC_0934_enl.JPG

As far as I know, this thing costs ~$38 dollars in the game store nearby the street where I live. Also, seeing the comparision between original hardware and this (on YouTube), it seems to have pretty much similar quality to regular NES and MegaDrive wannabees. The worst part is: the joypads don't seem to be sold separately for DS, in case if one gets broken  >_>

In any case, if I manage to get it that way so none of my relatives would see that I waste my own money, I'll tell more about this thing.

Not just a graphic hack or a thing which garbles the game, but basically something that makes this hack an entirely new game on the same engine. Is it even possible to extract the source from, let's say, Mortal Kombat II >_< ? Oh, I guess not.
