2000-present / Windows 98 and Pokémon 4-in-1?
« on: September 21, 2016, 11:57:38 PM »
Hey,

So in the Windows 98 Famicom bootleg, you can find a picture of Pikachu, and some logos for two of the Pokémon 4-in-1 games.

What's up with that? Was Windows 98 made by a union bond programmer or something? There has to have been SOME connection.

Bootleg Bazaar / Want to trade lots of stuff for ZDog and/or Samuri
« on: August 29, 2016, 08:07:52 PM »
Hi,

I really want the ZDog and Samuri plug and play consoles by Hummer Team, and so I am willing to trade any of this stuff for one (or both) of them. I REALLY want these plug and plays, so I am willing to trade a lot of it. Just send me a message if you want to trade.

I doubt anyone will want to, but whatever.

-Super Mario 64 (original Japanese first printing release. In very good shape!)
-Super Mario 64 (Japanese Shindo Edition reprint. Also in great condition.)
-Super Mario 64 (European PAL version. Is in good shape for the most part but is slightly damaged on the bottom of back of the cartridge.)
-Kobe Briant in NBA Courtside (US version. Has some marker on both labels put there by a previous owner. Otherwise in good shape.)
-Extreme G (good shape but has a price sticker on the back label)
-Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (good shape but has a price sticker on the front label)
-Beetle Aventure Racing (great shape but has a price sticker on the front label)
- brand new collector's edition Lego Star Wars 3 Play & Collect for the DS. It has the Jango Fett bobblehead, too. It never had shrinkwrap, I know since I'm the one who bought it at the store. It does have some tape keeping the box closed though. The box has several creases, plus a sticker showing how much it cost in the store.

Next, I have some bootleg Famicom PCBs. They are probably modern reprints but I dunno.

These ones will work in normal Famicom:
•Balda + Pyatnashki: Educational puzzle games by A. Chudov. Crashes when it gets to the game select
•Text Editor: Russian text editor by A. Chudov for Famicom.
•Tecmo World Cup Soccer

These ones will only work in clones:
•Downtown - Nekletsu Koushin Kyoku - Soreyuke Daiundoukai
•Bikkuri Nekketsu Shin Kiroku! - Harukanaru Kin Medal
•Spartan X2
•Pokémon 4-in-1 (pirate original)

SNES:

Not For Resale demo copy of Ken Griffey Jr. Winning Run:
Top label has some gunk on it, the back label is torn in the middle from when they removed the "property of Nintendo" sticker.

Pictures available upon request.

Famicom/NES dumps / Super Pac-Man?
« on: August 23, 2016, 06:40:55 PM »
Hey,

On some bootleg multicarts there are speed-up hacks of Pac-Man that make the game faster and change the color of the maze.

I know some multicarts with it have been dumped, but is there a single-game ROM?

The Big Old Arcade / Pokémon Go
« on: August 06, 2016, 11:44:56 PM »
Hi,

So Pokémon Go is the new Pokémon game on mobile phones.

I think it's pretty good.  :) I'm on level 15 right now. Although they took out the tracker that tells you how far away Pokémon are so now they are harder to find. :(

What do you guys think?

Wonderful Wide Web / Famicom bootleg competition!
« on: July 12, 2016, 09:19:03 PM »
Hope I posted this in the right place... :\

Hey,

So I've seen some video game competitions where every month or so there's a new task that you have to do in the game. Then you do the task and email your entry to an email set up by whoever's managing the competition. And you get points or whatever depending on how well you did the task, and whoever has the most points in the end of all the tasks is the winner. (for example there have been Super Mario 64 TAS competitions like this).

I'm thinking about having a Famicom bootleg competition like this, depending on how many people are interested.

If enough people want to do it, there still will need to be discussion about the details. (is it TAS or no TAS? will it be a different bootleg each time or the same one? etc.)

So.... what do you guys think?  :)  If there is enough interest and the details are sorted out I will set it up.

1984-1992 / Fancy Mario hack
« on: June 14, 2016, 12:12:32 PM »
I've heard that Fancy Mario is a hack of Super Mario Bros. that adds vertical scrolling. But whenever I try it on an emulator, it still has horizontal scrolling but it's all glitched up.

Is this just an emulation problem or does it not actually have vertical scrolling? If it doesn't, what's it doing?

2000-present / Famicom Flappy Bird??
« on: June 09, 2016, 07:41:55 PM »
Hi,

I found on AliExpress a Famicom cartridge with a label that says Flappy Bird on it.

https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32448625859.html

The seller doesnt have a description, so, does anybody know what this is?? Is it a hack, or a flappy bird port, or what?

Hi guys, you know the CoolBoy 198 in 1 multicart that actually has 198 games on it with no repeats? Well, I'm selling mine for $5. (That doesn't include  shipping obviously).

I'm selling it that cheap because I can't get it to work. It used to work very well, but now it doesn't.

Sometimes I can get the menu screen to load for half a second but then it crashes.

I hate to just throw cartridges away, so I'm selling it here in case someone can get it to work.

I've tried cleaning it, but it hasn't started working.

So... Yeah. Just let me know if you want to buy it. If you think the price isn't good you can make me an offer.

UPDATE: gone

2000-present / Family Kid reprint cartridge with stolen label
« on: May 25, 2016, 08:52:58 PM »
Hi,

So there's this Family Kid cartridge they're selling on AliExpress, and I bought one and here's a picture of it:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B45xmVslBNPsWEViOEh4WmdZakxseEJkaVZmMEIwVzJyZ3Rv/view?usp=sharing

(I tried to directly show the image in this post, but for some reason it wouldn't work.  -_- )

That label appears to have a hole in it, but it isn't actually a hole, they printed out a label with that part missing from the picture. Combined with the fact that the label is really, really blurry, I suspect that they just cropped a picture that somebody took of their Family Kid cartridge.

I'm pretty sure I saw a picture of a Family Kid cartridge that had a hole there somewhere before, so does anybody know who's picture this company stole the label from?

2000-present / Online bootleg Famicom stores
« on: May 22, 2016, 09:14:37 PM »
Hi guys, I'm looking for websites of distributors or manufacturers of famiclones or bootleg Famicom cartridges that actually let you buy their stuff straight from the website. So far I have only found one. I found this link in the packaging of my ED64+ bootleg Nintendo 64 flashcart.

http://superufo.com/pp/index.asp

They are either the distrubutor or manufacturer of some bootleg game systems. Some of them are famiclones, plus there are some other bootlegs that may or may not be famiclone related. Anyway, this place isn't a scam. I bought a Power Joy plug & play for $8 on there, including shipping, and it came in the mail two months later.  :) I really don't know how they manage to make a profit off of that, but I guess they can. (I assume it would have come faster if I hadn't selected the cheapest shipping option, which is $2 ground mail)

Anyway, does anyone else know of some bootleg game websites kinda like this? And I want ones that let you order just one game, because some of the other ones I've found have minimum orders of like 500/1000, which is way more than I am willing to buy.

So... yeah. Does anyone know of any?

Also they have to ship to the US. I emailed Super Game (the Russian manufacturer, not the developer obviously) and they only ship to Russia. <_<

1993-1999 / Titenic reuses sounds from Aladdin?
« on: May 21, 2016, 06:53:31 PM »
Hi guys,

I've been playing the Hummer Team games Titenic and Aladdin recently, and I noticed that the sound effect of the chef guy in Titenic attacking you is very similar to the sound of the first boss in Aladdin attacking you with his sword.

Maybe probably I am wrong about this, and it's probably just a similar sound, but maybe it was reused. I don't know.  :P It's similar either way though.

So... yeah. That's it really.

1993-1999 / New Contra Function 168-in-1 Multicart
« on: May 21, 2016, 06:13:09 PM »
Hi,

I was going through some ROMs of bootleg multicarts. and I found this one "New Contra Function 168-in-1", which has some weird hacks of old NES/Famicom games. (I've attached a ROM.) Some of the hacks include hacks of Tetris that replace the blocks with copyright symbols, and hacks of Super Mario Bros. that make the scrolling all jumpy and modify some of the graphics, and things like speedup hacks of Galaxian and Pac-Man. :)

The interface is somewhat higher quality than other multicarts, other than the slow scrolling. Pressing start on the multicart menu will show a screen saying how to pick games and stuff. Also, in a couple of games, it has a screen asking you how many times you want to play the game. After you play the number of times you selected, it will take you back to the menu screen. Also the indicator for what game you have selected is a spaceship, which flies across the screen after you pick the game.

So, pretty interesting. Does anybody know more about what company made this multicart or have pictures of the actual cartridge? That would be interesting.

Pirate Talk / How to dump Famicom carts?
« on: May 08, 2016, 11:19:09 PM »
Hi guys, I'd like to know how to dump Famicom games. I have some (probably) undumped generic multicarts with mostly common games on them (although one or two of them have some uncommon  pirate original games), and for fun I'd like to learn how to make ROMs from them.

I've heard you can use an Arduino to do it. I have one, but I don't know how to use it to dump games.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. (:

1993-1999 / Mario-Kun hack
« on: May 04, 2016, 11:12:05 PM »
So, there's this hack of Moai-Kun (a puzzle-platformer game by Konami) called Mario Kun, and it replaces (most of) the main character's sprites with Mario's sprites, and also replaces the enemies with Mario enemies.

It's included in GoodNES and a couple of other complete NES sets, but I can't find any information about it. I'm not sure if it's an actual bootleg, or if it's just a fan-made hack, so does anybody here know?? Also, I'd like to know any other stuff about this hack, like who's "teunire"?

I've attached the ROM to this post.

Discussion Center / Help storing Famicom cartridges
« on: April 15, 2016, 11:21:02 PM »
Hey guys! I have a lot of Famicom cartridges (mostly pirates) without the box and I'm trying to figure out a good way to store them. What I have been doing is storing them in rows, but the more games I get, it takes like a minute (too long) to find something when I want to play it, since (most) Famicom carts don't have top labels. :(

I read that using cassette tape racks works pretty well, but some Famicom carts I have are extra big and wouldn't fit. I also read that it's easier to get what you want out of your games if you keep all them in their boxes. The problem with that is that for a lot of games, particularly pirates, the boxes are hard to find, expensive, or nonexistent. :(

What do you guys do for this?

Also, I have like 5 loose pirate Famicom game PCBs, and it'd be neat to get those into actual cartridges. Is there any easy way to do that?

Thanks!
