Famicom/NES / Re: Existing game to VT02?
« on: September 16, 2019, 09:32:57 PM »
If you mean like hacking the graphics to be VT03 standard, I think you would have to replace the graphics completely as they use a different format to standard NES graphics. The colour palette would also need to be replaced due to utilising more colours per graphic tile, I imagine being able to disassemble the games would be almost essential.

Other Pirates / TV Boy
« on: September 13, 2019, 08:01:32 PM »
For the uninitiated, the TV Boy is a series of plug n play controllers which contain 127 Atari 2600 games of variable quality. It's actually the first plug n play TV game device that I'm aware of, supposedly being released as early as 1992 from what I've read. I've been curious about all of the different versions of the TV Boy in existence, as there seem to be more variations than I'd previously anticipated. Here's the ones I know of:

TV Boy (Europe) - Original big oval design, the one I've seen has a controller port the others lack but I've never seen a second controller for it to connect to
TV Boy (NICS Japanese NTSC version) - Different selection of games, different decal on the unit itself. Box claims to have 126 games but the series of videos I saw actually showed 127 ???
TV Boy II - Update to the original, supposedly replaces a few games (I don't have the original so I can't check that) and appears to swap the positions of the reset and select buttons
Super TV Boy - Different design, has controller separated from the rest of the system
Super TV Boy (alternate) - Different controller design seemingly based on the original Playstation controller, has the hardware built-in to it

(I remember there also existing a US NTSC version, though I could be wrong)

The Wikipedia page also claims that one version of the unit removes Defender (Game 91) and doesn't replace it with anything. However, the TV Boy II I own includes the game and the alternate Super TV Boy replaces it with Ski Hunt, but the other 126 games are the same. It's possible that such a unit exists and I haven't seen it in action, but I do remember seeing a video that refers to the game as a test program despite it working normally.

Other Pirates / Re: Supervision: handheld of the less fortunate
« on: September 13, 2019, 07:42:34 PM »
Hello, I'd like to say thanks for setting up this website as it's good to have a site that documents all of the games, hardware specs and such. I was always curious why several of the games have a copyright date of 1991 when the system wasn't released until 1992 though. I'm also suspicious that Bon Treasure and GTC were just pseudonyms for Watara to try and make it look like there were more companies developing games for it,  though I haven't seen any confirmation of that. ???

Bootleg Bazaar / Selling a bunch of bootleg stuff
« on: September 10, 2019, 01:19:21 AM »
Gonna try to sell off some bootleg hardware in the off-chance anyone's interested. Prices are in pound sterling and I'm willing to listen to offers, though I will have to add shipping costs. I apologise in advance, but having had issues with shipping items internationally without tracking I want to make sure they arrive; I'll look at the prices if any offers come in. I think the rule of thumb is that it'd be about £5 in the UK and £10 in the rest of the world, though I can discuss prices on that stuff if it's an issue.

From left-to-right, top-to-bottom:

Gamezone II 86-in-1 (Includes about 65 games. Box is somewhat tatty and the plastic window on the front was sellotaped onto it when I got the thing)
£10

Q'Boy controller famiclone system (box is slightly damaged, includes Super Cartridge Version 1)
£25

16-bit Super Drive Mega Drive clone (5 games built-in)
£15

Mini Joystick (80-in-1)
£5. I'd actually like to get this one dumped though, but from what I've heard ABL devices are particularly hard to work with.

X Games II (128 in 1, actually includes about 90 games. Has a cartridge slot on the back)
£5

Coolbaby 129 in 1 handheld (TV-out included but hardware lacks triangle sound channel)
£10

Power Joy Streamline (includes manual and second controller, no cart slot. 60 in 1 I think)
£5

If you're interested in any of these items, make sure to PM me on the forum, if you have any queries about the items feel free to ask here.

1984-1992 / Re: Donkey Kong 3 with NTDEC on the main screen
« on: September 04, 2019, 07:34:30 PM »
NTDEC pirated many Famicom games in their early years, they published several multicarts full of pirated official games too. Never seen a version of DK3 with their copyright until now though.

The Big Old Arcade / Worst ports of games to other consoles
« on: April 13, 2018, 10:20:14 AM »
tbh I'd argue the GBA port is way better than the 32X version, the controls are done quite well considering the lack of buttons and the music is at least tolerable :v

Other Pirates / Question about TV Kickboxing plug n play game
« on: April 09, 2018, 03:33:04 AM »
I always wondered where exactly ABL's stuff was sold. All of their stuff seems to have been sold in the UK, and if Youtube is any indication then the N-Joypad was released in France as well. I'd be interested to see if there's any NTSC versions of their systems tbh  /:)

Famicom/NES dumps / VTxx Dumping Thread

I don't suppose the graphics on that example are broken because Nintendo Tetris is an MMC1 game and the machine is designed to handle a different mapper?

Famicom/NES / Project PLUG 'N PLAY (Bleb, Kuck, Goof)
« on: March 12, 2018, 09:14:08 AM »
OH I just remembered that I have one of those mini arcade machines; the one I've got has 240 games and most of them are Cube Tech VT03 hacks with some Nice Code games and odd original soccer-oriented games thrown in. The problem is I can't record/stream footage of them decently due to the tiny screen and lack of video-out.

Some of the games have the original music, others have short sample loops that replace any music cues the games have. As far as I can tell the hacks seem to be a mix of the ones found on those sport pnps and another non-sport themed one that Taizou has (I forgot what it's called xp), I'd be interested to see those games dumped at some point.

Famicom/NES / Project PLUG 'N PLAY (Bleb, Kuck, Goof)
« on: March 11, 2018, 07:13:41 PM »
Thanks for reminding me I have that plug n play, I should probably try to capture more gameplay footage of those games to show any other changes they might have such as endings or (in a few cases) how certain levels look. I would send the unit I have off to be dumped, but there's no guarantee that it'd be feasible to do. If I happen to find a second one I'll send that to whoever wants to attempt it. I do wonder if there's any games on the other plug n plays (like the boxing one) which have different games not present on the one I have.

Technically, they're not hacks as the code seems to have been done from scratch. Aside from only having level 1, the physics are different and it seems to be missing some powerups from the original game. I'd argue the same thing for the single event Track & Field roms, especially since some of the events weren't in the NES game.

I know Inventor didn't do the Blob Buster, Sakura (originally called Cardcaptor Sakura) or Gradirs hacks, those are fan made hacks that for some reason were included on a bunch of plug n play systems. I am curious if they did Puyo Boy and Puffy's Paradise though, the former has the same fonts and odd graphical changes but it also looks a bit too competently made compared to most of the other hacks.

Famicom/NES / Gamezone II 128 in 1 - Arcade Ports
« on: February 12, 2018, 01:03:12 AM »
I know JungleTac made a Scramble ripoff themselves but theirs looks different to the Gamezone II version. Not sure if it happens to be two companies that happened to port the same game or if the latter is an early version of the game.

Hello, I've been looking through these roms and I've been wondering where several of the Inventor hacks originate from as I've never seen them anywhere else. Specifically, games like Calcu Chaos, the Lyko hacks and some cat/Kirby themed ones like Puffy's Paradise.

Awesome, it's interesting to read up on these old companies that no one else bothers to look into :)
