Game Boy dumps / Pokemon Chikorita ROM
« on: October 05, 2017, 02:54:01 PM »
Fair point, then. I certainly don't want to muck about and do it wrong. I'll try to send it out to him when money's a little better, and let him know in advance. Sincerest apologies for having taken this long.

Sincerest apologies for the ridiculous delay. Right around when I'd planned to ship out things got really bad IRL, and still are, but I haven't given up. I still want to dump the game. Looking back now it's probably best if I purchase a dumper and do it myself, asking if I have any problems with it - as to the best of my knowledge no other copies have come up since I found mine, and I would be mortified if intl mail confiscated it as unlicensed goods. That begs the question, though - what dumpers are available? I've found the joey-squinson and retrode, but both seem to be out of stock. Is there another option? Thank you in advance for any guidance you can offer.

Hey, just wanted to say I still have this and will attempt to get it out to Taizou to be dumped as soon as possible. I literally just moved twice in the past two months and it took a lot out of me, so I should finally be getting enough free time to ship it out soon.

I'll bust open the gameboy box tomorrow and try to find it/shoot a vid. It's almost identical to the one from white lioness but there ARE differences on the title screen.

Heyo. Sorry for the belated reply.

I was actually preparing to move so it's in a box right now but I can try and dig this sucker out and get it to ya, if you think that'd be the best way to get it preserved. I suppose we should figure that part out in PM or something?

I just got a copy of this today from a lot I took a gamble on. Here's what my cart looks like:

Yes, that is ash and misty standing in front of a house filled with more ashes and mistys. The logo comes up as "Niutoudz" for this one. XD

The ROM inside is a little different from WhiteLioness's copy as it doesn't say pocket monsters crystal on the title screen, or have the blue text at the top, just the red text. Perhaps this means it's a bootleg of a bootleg and therefore copy protection on it is dead making it easier to dump? The strange label makes it hard for me to believe this is the original production run. XD

I'll take a video of it a little bit later.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to dump this thing? I feel all games should be preserved.

I got lucky a while back and found a 4 multicart lot on ebay for $20, with one of the multis containing both SA7 and Mario 3 Special. With games like this that are both older pirates and not still reprinted, it all boils down to luck. (sorry for the necro)

Mega Drive/Genesis / SuperVision SEGA Genesis pirate?
« on: January 02, 2015, 01:35:32 PM »
So when browsing amongst SEGA genesis games I came across a listing with a very peculiar label on one game. I've cropped out that game here:

I know the top text reads "Your family will enjoy playing home video entertainment like never before!". I'm pretty sure the yellow piece of tape below it reads "Sunset Riders", as this is the game the seller listed the cart to be in his auction.

From a little reasearch, apparently these carts originate from a Taiwan Pirate company known as "Supervision" who had also released several pirates on NES with the same "your family" tagline written on them, but I couldn't find ANY related to the genesis when I searched the phrase (or supervision), just NES ones.

Does anyone have any more info on these? The cart seems interesting to me but if it's just a copy of sunset riders on there I don't really care about owning it, as I already own a legit copy.

I'd say this is pretty good proof that Super Irmaos exists, to start.

Pirate Talk / Your first experience with a pirate?
« on: October 20, 2014, 01:59:18 AM »
So, for all of us to have gathered here on this forum about bootleg games, we've surely had something that sparked an interest in knockoffs before it.

For me, it was a singing piglet plush at a friends' house from when I was very young, perhaps six or seven. We decided to play with it after she got it from some garage sale, but it did NOT act like piglet.

The first time we squeezed its hand, it sung allouette (a popular french children's song) in a badly compressed voice.

The second time we squeezed its hand, it let loose a BLOODCURDLING SCREAM. Badly compressed, but still.

It was terrifying as a child, and I never played with it again after that. I thought it was possessed. Looking back though, it was probably a pirate toy whose soundchip contained several mismatching recordings; allouette from some french child toy, and the scream from a halloween toy, perhaps?

That was my first experience of seeing piracy bastardize a character I knew well, but certainly not my last, being part of PGC now and all.

So, what was your first experience with pirates? It doesn't have to be a game, just as long as it wasn't legit! I'm sure there are interesting stories to be told. :)
