Other Pirates / Waixing's /apk/ directory
« on: October 13, 2019, 01:01:21 AM »
Wasn't exactly sure where to put this, was going to put this in NES forum, but I figured there's more to this than just the (mostly bad) dumps of NES games
http://www.waixing.com/apk/
It seems like a lot of android stuff is uploaded up on their server just ready for anyone to take. Oh yeah, and of course roms for consoles such as NES, SNES, Genesis, N64 and even some neo geo stuff.
Hauntingly, it seems like everything was last modified around 2016 which sort of coincides with Waixing's last news post, so who knows what Waixing is up to now or if they're still in business

Been around since the RX community days, and now with nothing really better to do, I figure I should probably post on here and the discord more.

Kinda hate to bump an ancient thread, but I was discussing something similar on discord about the the spookiness scariness of Waixing and Mars games, there's just something about their craft that has the creeps. Just about the majority of their games have pretty bad music that has stuck in my head and kept me up the last few nights, and I could go on forever about them, but I think I'd be better off just listing some select examples.
Super Contra 7 is definitely known for it's pretty bad music, but there's just something scary about all the boss music in that game, especially the weird carousal robot boss's music, all the boss music definitely has that old sci-fi horror movie vibe to it which is a vibrant contrast to Contra's usual rather upbeat rock tunes. Sci-fi horror soundtrack arranged through NES's soundchip is definitely haunting and unnerving, in fact I'd probably have to admit many of the boss designs and even some of the jagged animations give me the creeps.
Pokemon Gold for NES also generally has some pretty creepy tunes, the title track, while based off an old piano composition; just sounds haunting and cursed, even if it's not really intended to be creepy. Then of course there's the battle theme which feels more in place in a horror game than a pokemon game.
Then of course is Darkseed, the original game is spooky enough and gave me nightmares a good decade ago when I discovered it on youtube, but the NES bootleg definitely has it's share of scariness to it, there's the one song in the game that definitely gives a creepy and mysterious vibe, and then of course there's the creepiness of the graphics and their attempt to recapture the source material, looking creepy at the same time.

I could probably go on about more things in other Waixing/Mars/pre-Waixing games that give me the creeps like badly digitized sprites, uncannily creepy animations, etc, but I'd probably end up repeating myself quite a bit, and many might just sound lame.

If I could remember, the NES Darkseed will actually let you continue indefinitely after day 3 as long as you take aspirin.

Bayonetta on NES

I really don't know how it would work, whether it be a crappy CONY Street Fighter hack or an RPG for some reason (like that one Tomb Raider bootleg on the NES)

1993-1999 / Titenic reuses sounds from Aladdin?
« on: June 17, 2016, 05:02:47 PM »
Hummer is pretty well known for reusing sounds (And sometimes music, whether used or left on) through out their games, can't exactly name specific examples as it seems most of the time every one of their games use the same bank of sounds, but I can tell you SMW on NES has similar sounds to DKC 4 on NES, as well as most other Hummer games

Megaman 1 and 3 (They didn't port 2 though) on DOS, if that counts, as well as a good deal of 80's and early 90's PC, Amiga and other computer ports, especially ones by US Gold.

Super Mario World's Famicom cart always gave me a simple chuckle, even if it's a simple photoshop that doesn't have that much to do with the game.

Ys book I and II for Turbo Grafx/PC Engine CD
Ernest Evan's for Mega CD
Many of the Valis games
The Touhou series for sure (I have a soft spot for Lotus land story)
The main Time Crisis series has some awesome tracks, especially the 4th one
And recently, Silent Scope: Bone Eater has a kick ass Japanese techno sound track, too bad the only one track on youtube is the attract theme since the game isn't officially released in the west, but I have played through the game in a Dave and Buster's

Discussion Center / Weird / Bizarre Dreams
« on: January 11, 2014, 11:42:28 PM »
Had a weird dream where I was in a tropical resort of some sorts and it also sorta had parts that resembled a boat like the Titanic (even had music from the PC game, adventure out of time) though more modern of course, it ended up with me and my father playing on a PS4 and jumping around in bullet time in some fancy bed room (or maybe it was a fancy living room) with a tub of water or something, I didn't see any part of the game but there were game noises and I was holding a controller that was lighting up. And then after that I guess I woke up.

I have some shock ironman digital wrist watch that I got about half a decade ago when I needed to keep track of time often, but lately I haven't felt the need to wear it since now I'm practically surrounded by digital clocks

Mega Man and Mega Man 3 for PC, though I'm not sure if those are ports since they're barely based off the source material

Just see for yourself

I'm not really that much of a cook, but lately I've been getting into the food network, and I have always sorta found my self using waffle mix in the morning when I'm hungry and no one is awake.
