Title: Pirates you've recently finished.
Post by: Robyn on October 19, 2012, 02:41:59 PM
Post all your recent pirate games you completed in this topic! :D

Recently I finished Digimon 5#2.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Pros: No music and 12 worlds! (24 stages)
_____________________________________________________________________________
Cons : Jumps, needed savestates and all the levels are from the other digimon games, but in another order! D: Oh and most the levels are just pallete changes and have glitchy enemies.

My list is large, but I'll list a few:
-Chrono Trigger (NES) - the last boss took me FIVE damn minutes to beat.
-Tales of Phantasia (NES) - GMAE OVER?! What the hell was SNT smokin'?
-Digimon 9 (GBC) - quite decent platformer to be honest.
-Story of Lasama (GB) - despite being a monochrome platformer, it entertain me.
-Tai Kong Huan Xiang (NES) - SNT had the balls to port Barver Battle Saga from Genesis, but they used a Slaking as a final boss. It's like they didn't have enough creativity to draw new original bosses...

ToP and TKHX are up as endings on my YT channel, the others are still on hold.

I think the latest unlicensed game I beat was The Incredibles by Sintax.  A fun, if short and generic, platformer.

I just beat Somari on my NES system.  I'm amazed about how easy Star Light Zone is (though it might be because of playing Labyrinth Zone previously and the huge lack of Buzz Bombers...)

Benico and Elf Land, both NES.

Sai Er Qi Xia Zhuan. Just a semi-major hack of NJ073 with different music and overworld design. All the rest is the same.

Mo Jie Ta Shi by SNT. Had to overcome A SHITLOT of glitches: the player can't exit from Elan in the future, some weird glitch near the end which makes the game crash when fighting with 2 or 3 enemies, another glitch in the stats screen (near the end too) which makes it think that there's a 6th playable character, but with ZERO stat values...

Zook Hero 2 and some stuff on my Pocket Dream Console, if that counts.  I've been trying to beat the House of Flying Daggers games (Dragonslayer Chapter Surrounded, Sky Dragon, etc.) but they have (possibly random) glitches that make it impossible to progress.

Final Fantasy X-3. LOL, I beat that game before publishing the dump here. :P
Spiderman 3 GBC. Now I'm going to figure out where to go in FFX-2.

Feng Shen Bang NES. The last boss is extremely ASShard, you need LOTS of patience, time, massive savestating and keeping ALL characters alive. I did that, and what happened next? That fucking game got MY treatment now.

(btw, what I wrote here is similar to SN88's ending description of CT NES)

Bio Hazard (NES) - had to replay this in one sit, but I got the same fucking ending. I used the non-crashing version from this place (http://s4.zetaboards.com/PGC_Forums?topic=9251146/) (works on VirtuaNES-ex and FCEUX 2.2.0).

Damnit. I should beat it, but from scratch. That means it won't be a New Year vid.
It starts out rather slow, but after you get your monsters up in level the game picks up considerably.  Aside from that and the dice randomly giving you a bunch of bad rolls it's actually not that hard.  In fact, I've only noticed the final boss(es) being higher in level than the random encounters.  If you have an issue with something or curious about a particular game mechanic, let me know.

Mo Jie Qi Bing, the V.Fame Pocky & Rocky clone for the GBA.  Not much of an ending and there's no credits, but I'll eventually get it up anyway.

NJ094 and NJ096 from tszone_fc's latest post, can't remember their actual names. The latter has the SAME blackout glitch at the end (from NJ068 Xun Qin Ji) although it runs on mapper 163 and NJ068 uses M241. For the former, the bosses are so overpowered near the end I had to cheat just to complete that game.

NJ101 He Jin Feng Bao (NES) - I was expecting credits on this one, but Nice Code removed them from it.
NJ097 World Of Warcraft RPG - short, boring and had to hexhack to beat it.

Lord Of The Rings by Sintax - glitchy, abused savestates just to bypass the horrible programming issues.

Zip Ball, a mono Sachen game that's ten worlds (50 levels) long.  The ending credits seem to be glitched (at least on my color cart, though the credits appear invisible in some of the other colorized Sachen games like 2nd Force.)  It's not a bad game, but the later levels get really cruel by having you not only reverse your controls, but having to do quick manuevers right after they get switched, which is disorienting as hell.  O.o

I have three multis with the game on it: one that's a plain pink labeled 8-in-1, another color 8-in-1 without the original label (they're both the same thing, though) and a 4-in-1 published by Sachen that runs on mono GBs.  Here's a crappy pic of them:

(http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/3711/sachenzipballmultis.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/837/sachenzipballmultis.jpg/)

The 8-in-1's games:
1. Zip Ball
2. Deep
3. Crazy Burger
4. Small Gorilla
5. Street Rider
6. Vex Block
7. Trap & Turn
8. Duck Adventure

The 4-in-1 just has the first four games from the list.

As for games, I recently beat the SIntax Lion King 3(?) game, really my favorite of all of the Lion King games I have played thus far.  Better controls than most, not overly difficult, but still entertaining to some extent.

-Happy Biqi (only the level names were translated to English, the ending wasn't)

Tiny Toon Adventure 6. The Montana Max boss fight was a little difficult but I made a pattern afterward to avoid. cool:

A Bug's Life (Genesis). Thanks to a jump hack by djshok, I found it easier to play this somewhat decent platformer

Ben 10 (Genesis). "Congratulations! You saved Earth from two mutant space worms" pretty lame ending :angry2:

Not too recent (like maybe a week or so ago) but I managed to beat Super Aladdin by Super Game.  I had to use savestates for the third level's boss because it's really picky on the hit detection and everything staying on screen.  I also discovered that you can rapid-fire jump up walls, allowing me to skip half of level 3.

Managed to get a copy of Universe Soldiers a few days back, and I already completed it today.  Great game, although a bit easy.  I finished the game on the easy mode in little time, and started going back through playing on the hard mode.  Only difference between the two modes is that on the hard mode, the ship/car goes much faster, making it harder to control.  Made it about a 5th of the way through on the hard mode, but decided to take a break, as I was getting bored by that point.

Great game though, well recommended.  Definitely has Pac Man as its inspiration, but to be honest, I prefer this to Pac Man due to the special items and things like that.

So...I beat Poker III, in a manner of speaking, and spent like four or so hours on it.  If you win against all four girls at Poker, the next time you enter those buildings it has glitched goal amounts and nonsensical payout (Straights: $17,000.  Three of a kind: $34,000) plus the screen starts flickering when you go above $200,000 in earnings.  Reach around $300,000 and the zipper cutscene plays, then the game hangs on a black screen.  And this was on real hardware, too.  With an official cart.  For over four hours.  Cue cackling like a loon. Today I finished AV Pachi Slots on my NES.  Those slots games are more of a war of attrition than anything else.  I also tried to beat Honey Peach on my NES system as well (with passwords of course) and...well...it didn't end well. Since Taizou brought it up, here is how I see the situation:

1)  Compared to many games, there are just not nearly as many copies of the unlicensed games out there.  Now Honey Peach is definitely not one of the rarer Sachen Famicom games, at least from my experience, but it is still not a common game.  Plenty of people probably would love to own a copy, and there one is, destroyed, and for what reason?  If you did (or do) that to the Locksmith cart you have, I would be very pissed, since I have been actively searching for that game for awhile now.

2)  For someone that claims to love these games so much, it just seems foolish that you would then be destroying them.  The other day I got really pissed at Power Blade 2, a fun game that is really cheap at times.  I didn't destroy my cart though, I just put it away for another day.  It just strikes me as odd that if you like these games as much as you claim that you would destroy them.

I nearly managed to finish the regular version, but that final boss is almost impossible from what I remember. :(
It's a crazy fight, and I've gotten there in the regular version but never actually beat it.  The boss randomly teleports around firing huge spread shots that are very hard to dodge, and it takes a bunch of hits to kill as well.  It's hard to really fight effectively, and even the last level itself is bad with the fast moving enemies and their placement.  Definitely not one of the "classics" on the multi.

Have fun.
All I say is that go for the 25, 30 MP magic moves on bosses only, and use the HP refill (15), revival (18) spells of the main and fourth character (I mean the fourth one who joins I think at 35 and sticks through till the end).
The game does rough up from the sky part1, but given the fact you'll always have a revive spell, it will not be much of a problem.

Waixing could have went over LV9 as there was still lots of room for improvement in like say, better weapons. The final bossfight should not have taken 36 minutes (yes, I actually played in real time and with a stopwatch), just because my AP was only 21. That's not difficulty, that's just overshot HP on the boss side.
And I haven't even mentioned the swimming part yet before the bossfight.

...also, why was there a skeleton midboss in the game?

Magic Jewelry is an endless puzzle game, so I didn't technically "finish" it per se. I however, did "complete" the game by scoring over 10,000,000 points and making the score counter loop back to zero as a result. After nearly 25 years since this game was made, what happens when over 9,999,999 pts gets scored is finally discovered for all to see. Apparently, Hwang Shinwei never thought anyone would even get this far into the game, so he didn't bother programming a cap for any of the game's values.

Not shown in this video: apparently, when level 256 is reached, the falling jewels revert back to a manageable level 000 speed. Least those Taiwanese programmers learned from the whole Pac-Man crashing level, at least....

Maybe I will try to attempt a "100,000 jewel" completion or a "level 1,000" completion.... heck, I might try to attempt the same run in Magic Jewelry 2...

My theory is that the music was actually stolen from an MSX2 game, but when it was converted to the NES soundchip, it got mangled horribly beyond recognition due to the different natures of both systems. I do know that at least two Korean arcade puzzle game ripoffs steal music from Treasure of Uşas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U%C5%9Fas), and hey, the Koreans DO love their MSX and all (http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/korea/part1/company-zemina.htm). I say all this because the music does give off an MSX2 vibe despite being horrible NES music.

Oh, and I found out what happens if you score beyond a million points in Bugtris:

I finished Sintax's Donkey Kong 5: The Journey of Over Time and Space. Those physics were broken as fuck and i sweared a lot during the process. I should have used save states for this game, but i don't like to do that.

I think if you use save states it doesn't actually count as beating the game.

I just beat all 99 pretty much identical levels in NiceCode's game Contest to see if it had an ending, and it was really boring. It doen't even have a proper ending, it just softlocks at level 100.  <_< Thanks a lot NiceCode.

Last month (Project Jncota)
* KT-1027/30/33/36 which are based on Xuan Yuan Sword novel series. My party in the latter ended at 78/73/70/68, but with that it was pretty straightforward.
* KT-1057 DQ3 backport — it ends with a black screen. But.... If you press Start it continues, though you cannot escape from the castle (last cutscene loops endlessly).
* KT-1059/67 DQ5 backport — a split backport just like Hengge's FF4. Sad the second cart ends before you access the Sky Tower.
* KT-1060 YS VI Ark of Napishtim — no comment
* KT-1061 YS Oath in Felghana — again, no comment
* KT-1052 YS Seven backport — this time I decided to go far and levelgrind ALL my characters to above 80. This resulted in the final bossfights being a piece of cake.
* KT-1039/42 San Guo something — another split RPG

Recently (Project Nanjing)
* NJ038 Chrono Trigger — Crono only but still had to rely on savestating. Magus' Dark Spell is limited though.
* NJ014 Sword of Mana backport — pretty easy, especially with the best equipment.

No cheats were used when beating all of these btw.

NJ058 Tales of Phantasia backport — No cheating.

Actually you can boost your ATK stats for each character by using the Flare Bottle on them while in battle. This resulted in a easy pwnage to bosses near the end (they took around 30 hits even on level 99...)

NJ020 Golden Sun backport — no cheating

It didn't even require lots of levelgrinding before bosses. Party ended at 53/53/53/49, final boss was a piece of cake with regular attack only.
