Any one know where I could buy the Korean PC bootleg Powermon? I've been looking around online but could only find info on it.

I found the name it was distributed it in Taiwan under, which is 威力寶貝(or 威力宝贝 in simplified chinese).
Using that for a Ruten search brings this:

http://goods.ruten.com.tw/item/show?21204278361736 (http://goods.ruten.com.tw/item/show?21204278361736)
I don't know what people are using as their proxy bidders but you can buy it somehow I'm sure :) There's a 2nd auction just like it, but they're both CD only, FYI.

I also found this site with screenshots, first time I've ever seen it.

That's it!  :O. I would like to try and buy it. But first I need to know. Is it already in New Taiwan dollars on the site?

Post by: Barver on July 28, 2012, 11:30:11 PM
Nope, it's $190 US dollars. BWAHAHAHAHAHAAH!!

Nah, of course it's Taiwan Dollars :) They wouldn't list US currency on a Taiwan site ;) As far as how to by it though, no idea what people are using. Google probably can help :p

Just so people know. I ordered the auction through Taiwan Shopaholic. Hopefully if I am lucky I will have Powermon within the month of August. When I receive the game I will post more info. Though I've read it's supposed to be pretty hard to install.

OK I know I'm getting ahead of myself   but does anyone know how to search for this game?

Edit: Or could someone please translate the title of the game? Please and thank you! One more thing: what language is the title in? :)

It's Korean. Title is 내 친구 몬스터 2, which means "My Monster 2." I found this Korean site selling it i think. My Korean is very very low so I couldn't say much about what the site says.

Thanks Barver!!! :)

Edit: I think this site is selling it because the name of the site is Gmarket

Edit again: It's a Korean shopping site. I even found a proxy service that could buy from it. I'm not allowed to buy the game yet but will when I can. Here's the link for proxy site: here it is!!!! (http://danceinkorea.com/shop/)
Excuse me for my double post but I have one more challenge for Barver. Do you think you could find this game?

This one looks more interesting since it's 3D. I'm wondering how the heck you're finding all of these lol. I'll have to see if I can find downloads for them anywhere, though it's probably not likely they're up. Have to have my brother do it since I'm not the Korean gifted one in the family :p

How is it?
Title: Powermon
Post by: Picrodus on August 24, 2012, 10:03:56 AM
PC game originally suspected to come from Korea although my copy is Taiwanese. Basically the gameplay is that you are a hairy eared, racoon tailed, flying, water ballon throwing Pikachu. The enemies all resemble Pokemon as well but with slight differences. For example the dark purple guy kind of looks like Sandshrew. If that isn't strange enough when you kill these "Pokemon" they sound like people dying. The kind of sound you might expect to here from an old fighting game.

Hahah, sounds awesome! :D
You should record some footage of it. (or maybe even an iso?)
Title: Powermon
Post by: Ray of Lightning on September 08, 2012, 03:00:47 AM
Sorry, oh so sorry, for the bump everyone but curiosity is getting the better of me and I have to say, I second Rob's motion.

I mean, it might be possible that the game is so badly programmed that recording is difficult, that maybe, but if it boots up right from inserting the CD-Rom then an ISO sounds more then ideal: you could say it sounds like the easiest dump ever. Do correct me if I'm wrong though. x3

Post by: Picrodus on September 11, 2012, 11:14:02 PM
I'm so sorry guys for no video yet but I don't have the ability to record anything at the moment but perhaps I could possibly eventually send it to someone so they could dump and possibly make a video of it though I'm not to sure about sending it off to someone yet...

Edit: Hold up. May be able to get recording. Just give me a couple days to see what I can do.
Title: Powermon
Post by: Ray of Lightning on September 12, 2012, 03:08:02 AM
Alright then, man. :D I can wait. :)

As for sending it off to someone, hell, I don't know how far away we are from one another but if you really can't get anywhere with it I'll give it a good bash myself. I'll even pay for it, just thought I'd put it out there. :3

Post by: Robyn on September 12, 2012, 01:32:21 PM
Picrodus, all you got to do is download IMGburn (or something simular) and make an iso (or img, or bin) for it. Easy peasy! :D

Title: Powermon
Post by: Picrodus on October 14, 2012, 06:43:47 PM
To Arshes91, I could but I don't think that it would be appropriate to put a non working dump in two places. It's probably better to wait and see if I can fix it before I upload the file anywhere else.  :)

To RobGBA and MLX, I am not sure if my parents would let me download this program, but I might be able to upload the data file that was also on the disc. And once I do that someone who is much better than me with this tech stuff might be able to get the program running. But first tell me if you think it would be worth uploading the data file first.

OK RobGBA, just give me a day or two to upload the data file. As I have lots of homework at the moment. But expect it soon!
Uh, is there a way to upload an entire folder in one place? Cause I don't know if there is and I'd rather not upload every file if it can be avoided.
Title: Powermon
Post by: Barver on October 15, 2012, 11:18:19 PM
You're familiar with zipping/rarring files, aren't you? You can just take all the folders out and then put it all in one zip archive, so anyone can get the whole thing in one package.

And I think you should be just ripping a bin/cue of the disc rather than individual files.

But seriously though, why not just make a normal .zip file? I think practically EVERY version of Windows nowadays has the capacity to let you do that at least. But I guess it's a moot point as Picrodus making the data file public but still, it's a good idea methinks. =P

Title: Powermon
Post by: Picrodus on February 01, 2013, 08:10:12 PM
Okay I guess I'll write a buttons guide

1. The menu when the game loads up will have four different words. Choose the first one to start the game by pressing the enter key.

2. The left and right arrow keys allow you to move from left to right (obviously)

3. The up arrow key makes you fly. But be sparing when you use it. Because it will lower the MP bar. And the only way to refill that is with certain items (I don't know which ones off the top of my head) But the left arrow key gives you a short lunge in the direction you are facing. (as I just figured out)

4.The Z button makes you jump so you don't have to use up the flying stuff. The X button allows you to attack enemies by throwing water balloons (which are unlimited) Though some enemies take more to kill than others.

5. The escape button allows you to choose from three different things and also pauses the game. The top one let's you to continue to play the game. The middle one takes you back to the main menu. And for reasons unknown to me the third word also let's you resume the game.

6. Also in the main menu, the fourth choice allows you to exit the game entirely.

7. The second choice makes you start the game also. Perhaps a harder mode?

8. And I just figured out that the third choice is a demo.   Albeit not a very good one as it doesn't show the controls. -_-

9. And finally, have fun. And make sure to keep the volume up because when you kill the enemies they make dieing human noises, which is kinda disturbing. :D

its just called "Rabbit" in English though. Im sure any resemblance of that one rabbit to Pikachu is purely coincidental[/quote]I was googling and I found the chinese version   called "神气兔宝贝中文版"
you can download from here http://1000eb.com/549k (http://1000eb.com/549k)
I have not installed  >_> but i think that shit be wack.

(Advertisement for korean version)

So this turns out to be a taiwanese game...A korean PC game magazine published in 2000 had an ad for this game, and I just thought it was a silly korean Pokemon knockoff.

The original taiwanese version is called 神氣兔寶貝 and was developed by Lonaisoft. Lonaisoft is still active and has a page for this game(http://www.lonaisoft.com.tw/game.rabb.htm) (http://www.lonaisoft.com.tw/game.rabb.htm)). Seems like Lonaisoft also made some Bubble Bobble knockoffs.

Korean version is called 내사랑몬스터(Means something like 'my dear monster', or 'my lovely monster') and published by Silia Entertainment. The Lonaisoft logo is still there so it seems to be an 'official' version for korean market. The ad above also mentions a game called 六道天書(another taiwanese game developed by different company) for Silia's next release.

There's one more release for the game called 'Diki Game Collection 2', coming along with other three non-Lonaisoft games. This is published by another Korean company called Digital Dream Studio.

Both Silia Entertainment and Digital Dream Studio seems to be gone now. I can't track down Silia at all and DDS had its website www.ddsdream.com and www.dikigame.co.kr for its game division but both disappeared in 2003.

Hm, I can't seem to get this to work on my Windows 8. I keep getting an error message. Any way to fix this?

oh wow i didn't realise this was a Lonaisoft game. that company is/was run by someone formerly of Gamtec and one of their earlier games, Bubble Hero 2, has quite a bit in common with Super Bubble Bobble. (maybe it was even supposed to be a sequel to that game)
