Title: Sonic 3: Fighter Sonic
Post by: Yoni Arousement on January 31, 2012, 04:04:22 PM
(updated, thanks for re-uploading my playthrough!)
This game just got in my mail today. The cartridge art says something like Sonic Fighter Sonic 3, but the Title Screen says Fighter Sonic. Also, that same music you've heard in that Rayman GBA pirate will loop over and over, getting on your nerves. Sonic attacks by throwing spin dashes at his enemies and jumping on top of them. The B-button jumps, while the A-button attacks. You can jump higher by holding up on the d-pad.

I might be wrong, but aren't the background graphics taken from Sonic Advance?

At 07:54, there's a Starmie that is rolling around. I wouldn't be surprised if Sintax made a Pokemon game using this engine. o_o

I might be wrong, but aren't the background graphics taken from Sonic Advance?
Most of them are.  And go figure it seems to play similarly to the other non-VF GBA titles (that is, kinda lousy).  :P

WHY IS THIS ENGINE SO OVERUSED?!?!?!?
Sorry,I feel legitimately ripped off and angry right now. We waited so long to find out what this is,and what do you get?
CRASH 3/SPIDERMAN 3/RAYMAN 3/DIGIMON WHATEVER.

Why can't you code a different engine?

Awesome! Where did you manage to pick this up at?

I already expected this was gonna use that same engine, so I'm not as disappointed as I could be =p

So how many GBA pirates does this leave left that we haven't seen screens of I wonder. Seems like they're all gonna be Sintax and this shitty engine over and over.

Thanks for sharing your discovery with us!  :thumb:

You're welcome! I simply bought this game off of eBay and it took 3 weeks to get in the mail.

Anyway, I felt disappointed that this uses the exact same engine as the other games Smedis mentioned. How come all of these games have the number 3 in their titles?

...I really should've figured by now that this game was based on that engine...

How come all of these games have the number 3 in their titles?
Actually, it's Rayman IV. ;)

Edit: Also, as I just remembered, it's Crash IV. But it's Spider-Man 3, at least!

Oh right, thanks for the correction. I just couldn't remember their titles well :P

I'm still utterly curious, incidentally, just what Vast Fame game (if any) the title theme to all these Sintax games is from. I mean, it's got to be from something by VFame, but I wonder what; it's either from a game that never got released, from one that hasn't been discovered, or an unused tune from a game that is known to exist.

It would be good to play the game on an emulator to see how it's like. Unfortunately, it's not dumped.

Unfortunately, it's not dumped.
Which I'm seriously trying to figure out. I simply can't find any GBA ROM dumpers on eBay or whatever website has them in stock and can be purchased via PayPal.

I know EMS Production Limited has a GB Transferer 2 that I've been being lazy about getting, which can dump GB/GBA stuff.  Whether it'd work with this (copy protection and all) I'm not fully certain of.

You can try dumping it if you have a DS (one with a GBA cart slot, that is) and an R4 card. ;)

Which neither of those is the case for me. Is it just me, or did Amazon stop selling R4 cartridges?

Edit: After some Googling for "r4ds amazon" it turns out that they did (http://www.r4dscards.com/Where-to-buy-Genuine-DS-Cards/).

Shameless plug, but I have an R4i and TTDS for sale in the selling forum.

any DS flash card will do the job so long as it can run homebrew, I have an Acekard 2 myself. a few sites stopped selling them for one reason or another, but Volumerates (http://www.volumerates.com/cate/nds-flashcards~r.1312434294U10894) still has tons of them.

For what it's worth, the guy who had the Spider-Man version of this game couldn't get it to dump using a DS flash card. Which doesn't bode well for this one.

In that case, the only thing I can think of is sending it to someone who can dump GBA games. :\

Out of jealousy, I really don't want this game anymore. I simply want to send it to someone who could dump it, or has a GBA rom dump utility.

I dunno, Sintax GBA protection is pretty good, I have Lord of the Rings IV and I've never been able to dump *anything* from it, even in an encrypted form..

Taizou and lorenzeo the comic can you try dumping these games and sending them to me please?

I tried FIX94's GBA Link Cable Dumper, and unfortunately, Sonic 3 Fighter Sonic is incompatible with it. The app simply throws an error saying that no valid GBA game is found.

So I recently bought myself an R4 cartridge for the DS, and tried using the GBA Backup Tool, still no luck. The ROM was merely produced as repeated hex values of "0EF0". It seems downright impossible to dump this game's ROM properly.

A way which probably won't but could work is to try to legit open up the game and dump from possible eproms in the cartridge using a eprom reader/copier, and then get someone with the knowhow to compile it into a .gba. But I do see that as risky and could destroy the game completely. Especially since you would have to desolder and the cart could even use a globtop

I have some bootlegs for sale, so I can say with confidence that even directly with a flash drive you can not get a working ROM.
On the flash drive written patch game, and the drop acts as a decoding when you start on the console.
Therefore, there is not so simple.

EEPROM Readers appear to be awfully cheap on eBay, I should try and get one of those. Problem is, I don't know of anyone in person who has soldering experience or know how to work PCB's. I wish I wouldn't have to go through so much trouble just to make this game available to everyone on the internet.

So someone DM'd me on Twitter if I was still interested in dumping this game. He linked me a device that can dump the game, but since Paypal seems to be absolutely necessary to purchase from the website that listed it, I told him that I can't use Paypal. Then he never replied since then.
