Title: Pokemon Gold Silver & Digimon Adventure
Post by: Brn89 on September 14, 2011, 04:24:31 AM
Along with Soul Edge vs. Samurai, another two SNES pirate games have been dumped recently. They are Pokemon Gold Silver (http://dforce3000.de/pub/pokemon_gs_cracked.zip) and Digimon Adventure (http://dforce3000.de/pub/digimon_cracked.zip). They're both platform games and I remember WhiteLionness did a video of the former before, when she owned the cartridge that you can see here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5dc4YuzSlo).

About the games, they both use the same music and sounds although in Digimon Adventure, the controls are very stiff and broken.

Curiously, when viewed in a hex editor, Pokemon Gold Silver has a bunch of leftover text strings from Lemmings.

Wasn't the Digimon Adventure game also released on the GBA? From what I remember, that version was pretty awful.

Both of these games have a very "Pocket Monsters"-type feel to them.  Seems like whoever made these (DVS Electronic Co., I suppose?) pretty much copy-and-pasted the game engine and soundtracks, kinda like Yong Yong or Color Dreams except these don't suck as bad as them.  Probably common knowledge but it's good to have clarification.

It's worth pointing out that the soundtrack for both games is stolen from Bonkers for the SNES. The engine seems to be the same for both games, although it's different to the GBA pirates for whatever reason.

All thanks go to Barver for putting up the cash for these carts and loaning them out.

Bravo!

Meant to post these myself but have been preoccupied recently :)

If you look in both roms at the very end you can see graphics leftover from A Bug's Life, so obviously built over that. That game probably uses the same Bonkers music and all aswell I guess =p

As far as who made them goes, I think it was probably Sintax :)

Didn't think Sintax made those two games... I thought they only did GBC games.

Well, the guy that gave me those GBA roms, including the GBA version of Digimon Adventure, said they came from a Sintax employee, and assumed the SNES one would be made from them. Seems like a fair guess, since they made the GBA one. Can't imagine what other company would want to bother porting these things :p

Well since all these companies were connected to Gamtec anyway, it might have been some other related developer who gave the them source code to port to GBA.. one thing that makes me wonder is that the graphics are possibly too good for Sintax. But I guess these would have been made around 2000(?) and Sintax only started releasing GBC games in about 2003 so maybe they lost some talent along the way :D

Thinking about it maybe it was BBD? They were always pretty closely linked to Sintax and they made some decent-ish games.

On the subject, I'd love to do videos of these but I cannot because of how broken the controls are >_>

Yes, I tried Gold Silver too, but control is very rusty. This is frustrating.

KAGE-008  // Then, which emulator should I use? I'm using ZSNES.

EDIT : Oops, I misread. Disregard this post, please.
