Title: Most amusing pirate cover/labels you've seen?
Post by: Barver on July 22, 2011, 12:55:56 AM
Just to bring back some life, and maybe to encourage submissions(or heck, post them and I'll put them up myself if they're not on the wiki already), this thread is to show off the stupidest or weirdest pirate labels you come across for games.

I'll get the ball rolling with my newest submission after a long absence.

Does anyone know what this game actually is?

Isn't it Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle?
Indeed it is! The "Tiny Toon" title hack of it, specifically. Tracked it down in this thread (http://s4.zetaboards.com/PGC_Forums?topic=8520076/).

Funny how when they convert these games to MMC3 (as proven by the 4-in-1 multicart this hack's included on), a lot of the time they rebrand it as a different game. :P

That Beavis and Butthead one is hilarious! I haven't seen a pirate of either version of that game before.. and what the hell, Buffoonery Panze? LMAO.

I can't find the picture, but I distinctly remember a cartridge with the Contra box art, but it said Kart Fighter.. Weird pirates.

I have came across the two finest pieces of artwork for the Mega Drive.

I am fully prepared to pay outlandish overseas shipping to play both "Time Warner Interactive" and....

"The Sensible Initiation".

I will own "The Sensible Initiation" if it's the last damn thing I do.

Is it just me or does "Time Warner" sound like a bad ripoff of Dr. Who? :P

Anyway, here (http://cah4e3.shedevr.org.ru/cartsbase/JY-066a.jpg)'s a 4-in-1 multicart. No idea what they were thinking with that "Srangrai" pic (Shanghai, of course), and the others (with the possible exeption of "Chi Dey Story") are unrelated to the actual game.

Edit: Found it (http://fuji.drillspirits.net/gm95/pack/16t2_cart.jpg). :D
LOL, it's literally ripped from that cartridge! They even left the text above and to the right of the woman intact.

Edit: OK, not specifically that cartridge-- the positioning of the text is a bit higher on the Famicom cart, and the woman's not as closely cropped-- but it's probably from the (missing) box art to that cart.

(Especially KaSheng) Hell, I have a 7-in-1 by JY where the image used for Super Contra 6 is from Contra: The Alien Wars and says "Instruction Booklet" on it and Bucky O'Hare uses a Star Wars poster for no apparent reason.
Edit: Here (http://i52.tinypic.com/2lay2p.jpg)'s an image of that, BTW.

And apparently, I suck at HTML.
Edit 2: Just had to show this one off because of how ridiculous it is:

The sad thing is, I'm so experienced with deciphering garbled Engrish that I actually figured out what game it's supposed to be...or, at the very least, what series, anyway. Hint: "C" sort of looks like "L", and "D" sort of looks like "O". Alternatively, just do a Google Image Search for 聰明笨伯 and take a look at the first several images.

Edit: And the Shin Megami Tensei one... note that the title is sloppily handwritten on it. I guess whoever owned it was a Chobits fan?

MC Mario? Does he sings rap? :D
Heh...for those who don't know, it's so named because it's actually a very sloppy sprite hack of MC Kids (a.k.a. McDonaldland). Which explains the many random McDonald's references in the art. At least they portrayed that part accurately.

Also note how, in addition to the mustaches, Ending Man also removed the McDonald's logo from the flag. While completely missing the even bigger one on the ground. And the Ronald sculpture on the building.

Castlemania? Sounds like a Castlevania hack with Hulk Hogan in it or something. (Incidentally, someone should make that if it doesn't exist already) Also, is it just me or does UB010 sound like a UB40 tribute band? :P

I forget if this one's on here already, but it deserves to posted twice anyway because of the lack of attention to detail. The Chinese title might as well say Somari.

The Adventures of Chef Excellence would have been a better title. :D (Especially seeing as Little Chef is an infamously poor restaurant in the UK)
Yes! I was looking for this label art and haven't found it again until now.. Kart Fighter.. Bare Knuckle. Seriously, lawl.

Locoman? (oops, now I see it's 'locoworld') If that was unintentional, it's that much more brilliant. Seems like the title for a fan made Spanish translation :D

I need to rant a little, because no matter how many pirate carts I see, I still can't make sense of it. That 1-in-1.. As Qiezei said.. Seriously?! I often wonder if the designers of these labels legitimately have mental issues. Have they ever seen a real cartridge? Do they not know what is expected on label art? It seems so much more obvious to just use the standard Famicom cart template, like most early pirates did, even if it is altered slighly you're far more likely to convince someone in the 90's that it's not a knockoff. They're in it to make quick money, but their products are 3 minutes of MSPaint away from being tenfold more convincing.

The bad translations, I get. But what in the holy mother of ass is the point of spending time designing a Kart Fighter label with Bare Knuckle artwork? There is no mistranslation that can account for something so... absurd!!
