Title: Sources for pirate cart pics
Post by: Barver on March 20, 2011, 12:19:44 AM
Thought it's a good idea that anyone wanting to contribute, or just wants to have some fun discovering all the weird pirates out there, to have a list of sources to search. These are the sites I use at the moment:

http://cah4e3.shedevr.org.ru/cartsbase.php (http://cah4e3.shedevr.org.ru/cartsbase.php)      Good place to start!

http://archiwumallegro.pl/pegasus-61692/0,0 (http://archiwumallegro.pl/pegasus-61692/0,0)     A site that archives tons of old auctions of the Polish auction site allegro.pl. Very hit and miss to find auctions that have a bigger picture of the main item unfortunately. This links to finding FC games(Pegasus as they call it over there), and there's other systems to the side too.

http://www.mercadolivre.com.br/ (http://www.mercadolivre.com.br/)    Probably the only place you'll find any SNES pirates. Check out the other MercadoLibre sites in Argentina too.

http://carts.emunes.pl (http://carts.emunes.pl)   Lots of gallerys of people's collections, mainly FC. Another good starting point.

Google.com    A couple searches I use that generate results are [game name] pegasus gry, [game name]Денди. Probably many more you can come up with.

Anyone else have any recommendations, list them here!

taiwanese auction sites are usually pretty good for older pirates, they don't have much of the newer crazy shit by the likes of NT though.
http://class.ruten.com.tw/category/sub00.php?c=00220002 (http://class.ruten.com.tw/category/sub00.php?c=00220002) - Ruten game category
http://tw.bid.yahoo.com/tw/2092071861-category.html?.r=1300620955 (http://tw.bid.yahoo.com/tw/2092071861-category.html?.r=1300620955) - Yahoo retro game category
you can just browse by console from there. Yahoo is a bit of a pain in the arse because as far as I can tell there's no way to list all games for a system, you have to do it by genre.

Hah, that NFPMuzeum one does indeed have some good ones. I especially love #73, which proves once and for all that Indiana Jones was once the titular character from Princess Mononoke.

#101 is also great, because it's one of the few cases of cracked-out pirate cover art actually being at least as accurate, if not more accurate, to the game than the real art. Of course it'd be Samurai Zombie Nation where they pulled that off.
What the frak is Atachamanure School (#136)? The only hits I can find for that are listings of bootleg Famicom games. (Edit: Probably the Japanese-only game "Attack Animal Gakuen"...where "gakuen" means, of course, "school".)

Also, we finally have an answer as to what "Worldwide Publishing" actually is (#159)-- it's the "Tiny Toon 3" title hack of Crazy Castle! Of course. Not like anyone could ever guess that, though at least they chose a vaguely relevant picture.

I didn't go through to notice Worldwide Publishing. Added to the wiki now :D There's so many places to go through, this is gonna take an eternity.

Atachamanure School is probably one of new favorites. Hilarious XD. One other label I remember that I'm having a hard time finding was a Simpsons pirate, I think called Super Simpsons. It was basically the same as the normal cover with bart on the skateboard, only difference was it looked like someone tripped acid and then tried to redraw it. It was a work of art.

Funny how there's a pirate of Lupin Sansei that uses practically the same cart shape with a much more authentic label, a lot better than 3 demented looking giant-headed doofuses. Also, I could be wrong but I think 65 is a pirated version of Pokémon 4-in-1. And according to the information for 67 and 108, Nice Code originals seem to be sparingly used in newer multicarts. (I'm guessing they're the Waixing-licensed versions)

I also like how the label for the Ferrari Grand Prix Challenge pirate (135) has a random Arwing and calls itself TwinBee Super.

Oh, and it's also worth pointing out that Pipe V (somewhere at the end) is Gimmick! ported to TSROM if I remember correctly. (It's also known as Shui Guan Pipe) Because of this, the sound is broken and all of the levels use Level 1's layout, making it unplayable after a certain point.

Oh, I love some of these!

Hell Limit Pill (http://dendygames.wordpress.com/2011/03/25/hell-limit-pill/) is what you get when you literally translate the Japanese title of Kabuki Quantum Fighter (地獄極楽丸).

Edit: Also, I don't remember Blizzard from Primal Rage ever being in The Empire Strikes Back (http://dendygames.wordpress.com/2011/03/28/the-empire-strikes-back/). Though I'd guess he's probably from Hoth...

Edit #2: I'm not sure whether "Supper Value Collection" or "Over-Valued Selected Cassette" is funnier. Probably the second one.

Edit #3: This one is just plain confusing (http://dendygames.wordpress.com/2011/03/26/mortal-kombat/). Claims to be Mortal Kombat. With art from Virtua Fighter. So naturally, it's actually Gouder's Street Fighter IV.

Edit #4: Captain Planet's secret identity revealed! (http://dendygames.wordpress.com/2011/03/24/captain-planet/) He's actually Heero Yuy!

Edit #5: Addams Family, Harry Potter, same thing... (http://dendygames.wordpress.com/2011/03/24/the-addams-family/)

Your good at noticing that stuff haha. I've started noticing myself how the pirates get the weird alt titles they use. Like Wacky Races is Chick Dog. I noticed the Japanese title is Chiki Chiki Machine Mou Race. So Chick obviously came from Chiki, not sure about Dog but they probably just based it off of the pic of the dog on the front =p

Edit1: Castlevania is known as 惡魔城 in Chinese, and becomes Devil Town since 惡魔 can be meant as Devil and 城 is city/town. Wonder what others there are...

Well I know that Mario is often referred to as Mary in Chinese-speaking countries because (if I remember correctly) Mario is translated as Ma Li over there.

Some multicarts call Penguin-Kun Wars "ASCII" because that's the company that made it, which is kind of odd considering the copyright info is removed on it.

You lot probably know this already, I just felt like pointing it out. :P
