Title: intellivision nes ports
Post by: kelvin donna on August 21, 2017, 02:57:14 PM
Hello it is me again, in the summer vacations  cool:

i have been looking for a special nes game for a while, and i have found the ultimate title that just takes the cake, and it is called "Polk". Yeah, pretty weird name though, but here is the video of it though:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDEa8SoFQL0. if anybody knows this exact game, then give the nes rom to me

I'm pretty sure this was actually made by Nice Code instead of Waixing. Why? Because it is a nearly exact copy of Intellivision Pinball. Nice Code used to port several Intellivision games to NOAC hardware for contractors. I've never seen the NES port in action before so i don't know where to find the rom. Maybe you should check DreamGear roms, there's a lot of Nice Code games in them. Else, you can always try to find that 120-in-1 rom.

forgotusername has recently found a way to extract games from multicarts and plug n play systems. He recently released a bunch of pnp games as part of Project BLEB. Project BLEB is a set of Nice Code games ripped straight from pnps and multis. I'm sure he'll be able to help you out. If you want Pinball, you should check out the BLEB roms before contacting him.

I was pretty disappointed with the Thin Ice port. Plays like shit, has no music, Duncan Penguin is nowhere to be seen and that thing repairs the ice with A FUCKING TRAIN. They should have kept Duncan's Zamboni.

you have 3 choices really
- keep waiting and hope someone is nice enough to extract the game for you
- try to help the process along somehow e.g. by learning a little about how this stuff works and figuring out where the Polk data might be in the ROM
- do it yourself

hanging around here bugging everyone about these roms isn't helping anything whatsoever. don't be rude to people who are just having a conversation about the subject of the thread - this is the Famicom/NES general forum, not the "everyone drop everything and help kelvin donna find some roms" forum.

* load the multicart ROM in the hex editor
* locate the PRG (e.g. the code) for the game
* locate the CHR (e.g. the graphics) - probably not in the same place
* copy them both into a single ROM with an appropriate iNES header

it's not exactly a trivial process for someone new to ROM hacking, especially locating the correct PRG/CHR out of 120 other games in a multicart. maybe you can't do it yourself, but at least understand what you're asking others to do

I use that for NSF ripping, since you can pad files, insert your own code, you can do manual searching, comparing files, and so on.
The other one what I can recommend is Windhex32, but it lacks a lot of features, however it is still good for comapring, as it tells you which offsets has changes and how long those bytes are.

I can imagine it for multicart ripping, since, you can just copy and paste the contents of ROMs, and make a single file for it, and attach an iNES header to it.
I never fussed with multicart ripping, but I'm pretty sure it is doable, and not as hard as NSF ripping. :P

There is not really a hex editor which was just designed for NES Roms as far as I'm concerned, tough, I can safely say that Hex Workshop 6.8 is probably the best one when it comes to programming, or really, making your own programs.

WOWA, thank you for offering useful programs, i will try both of them out later  :)

and other question, do you want a atari 2600 game for nes?

i offer:
breakout
centipede
canyon bomber
desert falcon
saboteur
planet smashers
millipede
and warlords
I wouldn't mind Planet Smashers.

I'm probably lost, but if you are saying:

"Would you like to have Atari 2600" games, then my answer is no.
First, I don't have an Atari, only a shitty chinese clone of it.
Second, I haven't plugged that in about 4 years, and I doubt it is still working.
Third, I have little to no interests in Atari games. : P

By the way... when I first read the topic title I though that somebody is making a NES port of Plok. :P
That would have been awesome.

Tough if somebody likes to help me expanding a list that would be helpful (Yeah... stick to the topic's original purpose. :P )

We all know that the Famicom has an expansion port for light gun, Famicom Keyboard, a lot of goodies.
Here is the thing: a lot of early Hudson developed games and almost all american / british developed games won't work on these expansion controllers, since there is no code that points to read from this "outside" region.
So in real, if you want to play these games via modified 4Score with an SNK 15 pin output or a Hudson Controller which has turbo feature, they will not work.
I'm currently testing these games with Nintendulator.
If anybody can give me more titles (licenesed or not licensed games) that would I would be glad about it.
This is why I have my own ROM archive where I fix these games to read from this region.

And to be stick to the topic: I doubt the game that needs single cart extraction, or any of those chinese games work on the expansion controller.

...Well this is interesting.

I see a bunch of people are asking me to dump Polk - but that game isn't extractable! It uses a file unlike the other Nice Code games, and I can't rip it through my method.

I should probably say what my method actually IS, shouldn't I? i saw some people in this thread under the impression that you have to find the PHR and CHR, then create your own ROM - all I do is:

* Open the FCEUX emulator, along with the PPU viewer and HEX editor built into it
* Search for THE SECOND LINE (NOT the top, which should say "NES" or "UNIF") of an already dumped Nice Code / Inventor / whatever game in a XXX-in-1 plug 'n play rom. Already dumped games at the time included Mowing, Nature Clan Island, etc., and I could also use those glitchy .wxn ROMs
* Copy all of the data into the dumped ROM. Again, MAKE SURE the data you paste in goes on the second line or else FCEUX will freeze (wont hurt your PC or anything, but its annoying and you'll lose your data). Also make sure you fill the entire ROM with new data, or else the game might be broken.
* Get a print screen of the CHR through the PPU viewer and turn it into a .bmp file; then I can import it into a tile editor. I mess around with the .bmp file's colors in Gimp (Gimp is effectively Photoshop for poor people) until they can properly import into the tile editor. I use Tile Layer Pro but that one takes some getting used to - you might want to start off with an easier editor.

If you want Polk so bad, you can find the first line of data in the ROM "Pinball (Ch) (Wxn).nes". I tried to rip the game but like I said, the file is different, and the graphics don't look even remotely correct when put on the data of any other Nice Code ROM.

Sorry if this sounded rude in any way, but I've already said I'm not ripping more games. It's too time consuming, especially now that Summer is over and school is starting. Maybe someday I'll try to rip more, but for now I'm done with extracting these mediocre games from last decade.

Where'd you find that one? Did that come from the actual Atari Flashback or is that one of the prototype ones? The interesting thing is that game appears to of been hacked as "Ghost Castle", which is in Project BLEB. And if you have the Flashback ROM can you send me a link to it?

Thank you for the tips, forgotusername! BTW, if you guys want to use tile editor, i highly recommend using YY-CHR. It can automatically arrange tiles in many ways to make your life easier and you're not limited to 1 tile at a time!

i have desert falcon too, but it is 257 kilobytes big

is there a emulator for wxn files?
Kind of. There's a plug-n-play called the Yeno Games 200-in-1 that runs .wxn files. If you have a micro SD card reader, you can take the little cartridge thingy out of the back of the system, put it in the reader, and then put the .wxn games on it. The emulator is REALLY bad though - the sound is all scratchy and the games run really slow. It runs NES too, and if you use the European ROMs they run at a (borderline) playable speed.
